A nose worthy of the great Foursquare, precious woods, tropical fruits, chocolate caramel, very light solvent. The perfect balance between gourmandise and powerful rum. On the palate, the pleasure is on a par with the nose, comforting with its chocolate, caramel and sweet coconut, and powerful with its wood and spices. Long finish on the same notes. Extraordinary, I could drink gallons of it!

Beginning somewhat alcoholic nose... Sherry comes through well makes it more fruity and slightly sweeter in comparison ... After a bit of time in the glass, the spiciness fades a bit and it seems more harmonious ... The sherry cask has done a good job and brings mMn the typical Foursquare character something forward and makes it different (which is very welcome in view of the countless bottlings) prices beyond the 100€ I see as excessive.

Very, very tasty, albeit quite typical foursquare! But it's definitely very easy to drink and doesn't offend at any point. The sherry finish is also not so extremely dominant here and doesn't overpower the rum. Beautiful!

Although this rum spent a very long time in sherry casks, the finish is rather subtle. Very interesting that other Barbados rums with shorter sherry finishes have taken on significantly more (sweet) sherry character. A good Barbados rum in the classic style. Lots of chocolate, rather spicy, subtle caramel with just the right amount of fruit. On the palate, the spicy sharpness dominates a bit, but otherwise it’s round enough, as there are also pleasant roasted notes present. Very good rum! Sherry finishes push the fruit to the background and bring more spices and roasted aromas forward.

09.05.2025 Retasting at our local tasting with Hannes from Whisky Watcher. ----- Still like it a lot ----- At the time of release the price was very good for the quality you actually get. The nose is fruity with oak and vanilla trailed by chocolate. If you don't rest it then the nose will be alcoholic and you'll miss the subtle notes. The palate is complex and well balanced with oak and fruits and I like the peppery spicyness which is followed by vanilla and chocolate as well as a light note of espresso. Leave the empty glass and whiff it after a while to enjoy fruity and chocolate notes. The finish is long and warm with oak, dried fruit and a hint of chocolate.

Overall a fantastic rum described in three words, sovereign dry and oaky. We were some friends teaming up at Cane Rum Society in Stockholm to celebrate Foursquare Appreciation Day. We started up with tasting of the four different ones seen at the added photo under lead of our friend the Swedish importer Lars Renbjer. The fourth out was the Sovereignty (ECS XIX) which was released on November 2021 celebrating Barbados Independence Day (November 30th), which makes the name of it understandable. It’s a molasses based blend of pot and column still rums aged for a total of 14 years with 3 years in ex-Bourbon and 11 years in former sherry casks. Bottled at ABV 62%. Very nice FS. Finish works well here - accompanies the classic FS notes very well adding some red fruits and depth.

reminds me spontaneously of the gentleman's cake from the bakery Voigt around the corner. Chocolate, caramel, and also fruity (raisin, prune) on the nose. On the palate also a lot of 'sweet stuff' without actually being too sweet. A good representative of the ECS, on the level of the Shibbo or Redoutable and clearly above the Indelible.

Coconut butter on the nose for this very fine foursquare, perhaps the best and most balanced... except for a little veil of alcohol that sometimes stings on the nose... that I've tasted so far. Then the red and yellow fruits and a few spices in the midst of a fairly supple wood are there on the palate. Nice finish, but perhaps a little short on length!

A pleasing typical Foursquare. Needs a bit in the glass to develop. I'm not usually one to add a few drops of water, but I would recommend it for this one. Again, a great CubaLibre mixer. But I would still prefer it neat.

And to finish today, a really nice Brett. Pleasant notes of vanilla and chocolate on the nose, plus spicy. On the palate, too, wood and roastiness are added. Very tasty.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A very tasty Foursquare, which starts with a hint of solvent in the attack, then reveals itself with a very greedy pastry profile, carried by chocolate, vanilla, caramel, toffee, praline, burnt sugar, toasted notes and dried fruits. The greedy profile is found in the mouth, creamy and oily as desired with spices, chocolate, cookie and caramel in particular. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is long, suave and expressive on spices, chocolate, caramel, with a salty touch, tobacco and mocha. A rum that has depth, greed, complexity and that will not remain available for long.

Rum Friendly Club Advent Calendar, Day 8. A pleasant nose of pastries, cedar wood and overripe fruit, apple, melon and banana. The first palate is marked by overripe fruit and pastries, then the alcohol makes itself felt but in balance. The finish is moderately long, still balanced, with the wood very well integrated. An easy but very good rum, with alcohol and wood very well integrated.
