Foursquare ECS XX Isonomy 2005
Fans of the Barbados profile rate this one of the best ECS releases, though a few shrug that it's "just a solid ECS" like the rest. Seventeen years in ex-bourbon casks give it more wood and dark chocolate than usual, with vanilla, dried fruit, coconut and a minty edge. Well-integrated for 58%, though a couple found it borderline too sweet or one-note.

Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Woody, chocolatey, well-balanced Foursquare Most rate this near the top of the ECS line — wood-forward, chocolatey and beautifully balanced. The only real gripe: some find it too safe and not that different from other Foursquares.

The high age suits the rum well and brings thanks to the wood influence still a little more vanilla melt from the bourbon barrels. Also overall with recognizable proximity to American whiskies with fresh oak, present spice of pepper, cinnamon and cloves, concise toffee, dried fruit and subtle minerality. Very good Foursquare representative.

Blindtaste Foursquare A. OB Isonomy, 17y, 2005, 58% B. OB 2007, 12y, 59% C. Kill Devil 2007, 14y, 63,4% Foursquare used to be my favourite distillery, but after a while I felt that most of the releases started to taste the same, too safe, and I lost much of my passion for the distillery. In front of me I had 3 glasses. I named them A, B and C. RUM A C: Dark gold. N: That typical Foursquare coconut. Column fumes as well. 20min. Not much have changed. The coconut is the driver here. I also get soft celery, peaches and fresh popcorn. That´s a new one. M: Anyone with a sweet-tooth? Very sweet and vibrant. Coffee, peaches and sugared white pepper, pineapples and lemons. Taste is better than the nose. F: Long, it lingers. My Guess: Kill Devil 2007 RUM A: Isonomy I was wrong B: Maybe

Very inviting and relatively intense nose with a pleasant sweetness, lots of spices, dried fruit, coconut, gr.nuts, chocolate and caramel. The palate is also very intense and round with a pleasant sweetness. For me, one of the best FS bottlings! Surprisingly far behind in the blind tasting today. Form of the day?

2 Edit: Currently one of my favorite mixers as CubaLibre Edit: once again taken out of the cupboard. It simply remains one of the best ECS. Unfortunately, it was too expensive at the time. Very successful bottling. Proud age. Very fine notes in the taste
Review by Tim
Similar to the 2008 and therefore just as phenomenal. Very complex and balanced. Of course all the typical FS aromas are there, whether the additional years in the bourbon cask have produced an even better rum compared to the 2008 is hard to say, but what's the point. Very good overall, especially the delicious pineapple/mint note on the nose.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A Foursquare that has taken the time of aging to refine its aromas. The nose is very versatile, sometimes fruity (exotic fruits, dried fruits, coconut, a hint of red fruits) sometimes greedy (chocolate, brown sugar, caramel, nuts), spicy (vanilla, pepper), we feel a note of glue that grows as the rum opens. Leather, tobacco and menthol also come through. A solid and engaging nose. The attack in mouth is rather direct. The profile is greedy, oriented towards rather dark notes (roasted and toasted notes, mocha, chocolate, nuts, sweet spices with cinnamon and licorice) that accompany burnt sugar, caramel, coconut and dried fruits. The alcohol is well integrated and the whole is very round, soft and fine. The finish, a bit short in terms of length, is focused on spices, wood, dried fruits and tobacco. The dark chocolate settles in progressively and develops a greedy note that leaves a very pleasant final impression on the palate. It is not a revolutionary Foursquare, but the profile more woody and darker than usual has the merit to make the distillery go out of the beaten tracks and to propose something more complex and a little less one-dimensional. A very nice bottling.

Tasted again at the Village 2024 in Nuremberg. Of the latest ECS releases, up to the Covenant, I like this one best. Unlike the Covenant, which was too dry for me, the Isonomy has just the right amount of wood for me. A little re-tasting: still one of the best bottlings in the ECS series.
Review by Mirco
Solid bottling with a clear profile. Notes of vanilla, caramel and dark fruits stand out clearly. Overall well balanced with pleasant depth, even if it doesn't seem overly complex. A rum that simply works well and brings joy.
Review by Joachim Guger
Foursquare mid-range, very good in the house line. You don't have to run after it.

I can understand why Foursquare has so many fans. Especially when they are more mature, the Rums. Nose: beautifully fruity, sweet and sour fruit such as gooseberry, pineapple and passion fruit together with the typical coconut. Fine cocoa and a light aroma of apple cider vinegar. Oh, now a little mint is added, rounded off with candied fruit. Balanced and very pleasant. 8,6 Palate: spicy and woody, again with tart fruit, passion fruit. With bitter-sweet orange and lemon zest. Here, too, the fine taste of coconut. A little nutty on the finish before the tart fruit returns. Nice depth, a little too bitter, but overall a good drop. 8,4

This sample has been on a long trip. All the way from Barbados actually and I just couldn't wait because I was told its really good. Right off the bat, yes, a great rum and I do hope I can get a bottle. The nose is nice and well rounded with wood, minty chocolate and dried fruit trailed by vanilla, tobacco and leather. The palate is complex and well balanced with oak and dried fruit trailed by chocolate, vanilla, caramel and tobacco. The finish is long, intense and well balanced between wood, chocolate and dried fruit. Try to leave the empty glass for a while and whiff it again :-)

8,7:On the nose, toasted oak with chocolate, leather, roasted nuts, vanilla, some black tea, tobacco, dried fruits like raisins and apricots, coconut, round, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, caramel and baking spices are out, pineapple, banana, citrus and red fruits, flowery molasses. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is sweet, balanced, brown with toasted oak notes like caramel, roasted nuts, burnt sugar, pastry, biscuits, leather, later dark chocolate, spicy with vanilla, baking spices, slightly resinous, fruity with dried fruits like raisins and apricots, coconut, citrus fruits, some candied, round, as the molasses is earthy with tobacco. 8,7:The finish is long, dry and tannic, balanced, with minty, flowery molasses, earthy, toasted oak, spicy, dried figs, raisins and citrus fruits, coconut..

Completely different profile especially on the nose as usual with foursquare. Very much tropical fruit, including even kiwi and pineapple. Taste spicy, sour fruity and very intense. furry sour kiwi and pineapple, as well as orange peel meets dark chocolate and a touch of mint and black pepper. I like it very much and is really time something different compared to the otherwise quite manageable foursquare profile!

The oldest Foursquare ECS in 2023 (until the next one, slightly older is out). Very well rounded; a nose of dried fruits, and spices, with notes of chocolate, fresh fruits, leather and hints of oak. A powerful rum
Review by Christian Rudt
You pour the rum into the glass and already notice Foursquare. Vanilla, baking aromas, tropical fruit with a little coconut, the woody notes are all quickly present and extremely pleasant. Very smooth and finely distilled on the palate. The tropical fruits give a nice presence here but tend to swim along with spicy, woody impressions. Some citrus fruit now comes through and is also drawn into the nose. The finish is also very soft and balanced. Perhaps a little too much already, but it's simply great blended. The 17 years of tropical maturation are of course noticeable, so perhaps you're at the zenith of good taste, but who knows 🙂

Very nice and rich FS profile.

Always fun to try the new ECS. It’s a nose with a lot of sweet notes, honey and kiwi fruit along with some more herbal mint and basil elements. The mouth has great balance, strong wood notes but is not over powering, leather, and chocolate orange. The finish is superbly balanced, with a long fade out on the tongue, intense gingerbread SBS citrus butter, and some. It’s top quartile for sure. Looking forward to trying head to head with Shibboleth.
Review by Piotr Ignasiak
Very nicely balanced, more wood and chocolate forward than Nobiliary. Aftertaste with some chocolate and mint.
Review by Portman
For me, it replaces Shibboleth and 2008 as the frontrunner in the series. The length of maturation has brought both more intensity and more balance. Wonderfully fruity, vanilla, deep dried fruit, sweetness, some barrel aroma. A stunner and worth the price in my opinion.

30/01/2026: tasting at home. A very solid Foursquare with an impressive 17 years of aging in bourbon barrels. Nice typical vanilla, wood and spice notes. High quality liquid as usual, but just not super different than other ECS releases.

Big Foursquare tasting, part II (30.09.2026)
Review by Rare Akuma
Classic Foursquare profile on the nose, but the age seems to have added some interesting extras. The harsh caramelisation evolves into softer, nutty praline and pecan pie. Sweet tobacco on short breaths, mint on long breaths. Saffron neatly supports by adding some necessary herbaceousness, giving the rum extra edge it needs to really engage. On the palate you get the same fruitiness but with a passionfruit cameo. Wood, sweets and spice exactly the same as on the nose but clearly segmented and evolving in the mouth. First fruits, into caramel, into passionfruit, into spice, into chocolate. It’s quite peppery and hot, nearly spicy. The finish is very sweet and woody followed by light tobacco and cool mint.
Review by Fuwi
Fantastic ECS with an almost perfect balance. Very well matured, but not too dominant in the cask character, but also not too sweet but very warm and fruity, with great vanilla notes from the bourbon cask. In addition, dry, dark fruits that drift into chocolate and a wonderfully long, intense finish.
Review by Afrilian Adi Prasetya
Quite a unique expression: bottled at 58% ABV but tasting closer to 48%. Sweet notes stand out, supported by a clean body and a smooth finish. Vanilla is the constant note from beginning to end

I cannot describe in details all that I taste when drinking rum. I can only assess a rum based on my own preferences. I enjoy pure rums with any additives and have tasted approximately 300 rums so far. My favorites are definitely from the Barbados profiles, especially from Foursquare Distillery, St. Nicholas Abbey and also Mount Gay. The FS Isonomy is simply the best rum I have tasted to date (from a 1 oz sample). I have since been looking to purchase this rum which is not available in Canada. On my way to New York City last week I finally got my hands on 4 bottles. Lucily I contacted the store owner and purchased those in January and asked him to set those aside for me to pick up in Mid-June. Thank you so much Norfolk Wine & Liquor in Dedham, CT!

A bewitching nose, one could spend hours on it. Intense coconut, vanilla, then a hint of pastry. The palate is a little more complex, with coconut, pastry, chocolate and fine oak. Very well-integrated alcohol. Very good length. An excellent rum.
Review by shazbot302
Simply magnificent. The nose, alone, will entertain for hours. The palate is rich, dark, and complex with a long finish. Back up bottles are a must.
Review by bur2000
At first I found it a bit too mild, but it's really good. On the nose, cocoa, chocolate, but very light, almost floral. A bit of a disturbing varnish note, but that fades away. On the palate, caramel, chocolate, candy, but still light, different from the heavy Guyana chocolate. And the finish reminded me 100% of Maker's Mark I recently drank: plenty of vanilla and very long-lasting. Very nice rum if you're looking for something lighter (not to be confused with boring) and still diverse. #41:260601

Tasting of this 17-year-old Foursquare. The woody, spicy notes are evident on the nose. The richly scented molasses rum is clearly perceptible, with aromas of chocolate, caramel, vanilla and a pleasant touch of citrus. A long finish, more gourmet and less dry than Shibboleth. A very good rum to discover.
Review by Gil Firth
Bottle Everything you love about Forsquare but on steroids. A release that easily competes with Velier releases. Lots of ripe fruits. Chocolate. Nuts. Honey. A little bit of interesting olives. Develops nicely into a more tropical and sour place like dried fruits and oranges. Long finish that really covers the whole mouth. Stunning. Close to excellent. In my opinion a strong buy.

Very pleasant aroma with notes of vanilla, chocolate and dried fruits, complex taste, long woody aftertaste. Excellent drinking.
Review by Buddudharma
Classic Foursquare profile, with nice intensity and good alcohol integration.
Review by Pavel Spacek
Great FSQ profile, higher alcohol taste for me... Foursquare is a distillery from Barbados producing amazing rums for everyday sipping. It’s a rum especially appreciated by rum lovers who are fed up with sugar and look for a gentle, sweet rum full of coconut, vanilla, chocolate, and caramel. Simply pleasant and not aggressive flavors.

Wow! Only second Foursquare and this is really fantastic. The balance of the juice and the barrel are perfect.
Review by 2up1down
Excellent, my second ecs foursquare & my forth over all. I was a bit dissappointed by the highly anitcipated 2008 expression. This one was by far my most pleasurable experience with any Bayan Rum I had
Review by Michael Janek
Smells intense but pleasant, a bit like flambéed figs. But the taste! It crushes your tongue right from the start and it's only 58%. It crushes the tongue and lips in Brno for a very long time, awesome.
Review by Stijn Zino
One of the better Foursquares I tasted since a long time. This one has some profile. The strong wood profile reminds me of Tryptich.
Review by JohnI
Very smooth and well rounded. Oak, vanilla, and tropical fruit.

Excellent! Very balanced! Very tasty!

Very good Foursquare. In my opinion, it's a bit fruitier than the 2008.
