8,6:On the nose, the first impression we get is vegetal with grass, leather notes and fruity with overripe tropical fruits like kiwi, banana, unripe. Then it becomes medicinal with some glue and roasted. Aeration brings out even more vegetal notes as herbs and mint, citrusy nuances with some lime peel, bergamot.It is fresher than before, as floral notes join, is fibrous, wood is a nice companion. We cannot avoid some metallic notes... Well balanced and round. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is a bit rough, but tasty, as chamomile, tarragon, mint and herbs soften spiciness and some intense medicinal notes as petrol, rubber and high ABV. Some meaty notes could be fleeting... As the first wave calms, tropical fruits as kiwi, banana, citrus like lime, lime peel and dried figs jump in the bandwagon. It is fresh with grass, mineral and a bit waxy. There are yeast and cookie dough notes, later pastry and linden honey. The palate becomes darker for a while with molasses, licorice, resin and menthol, a bit musty. 8,5:The finish is long, woody and dry, vegetal with herbal, floral and chamomile notes, fruity with lime and pineapple and for finish spicy, a bit mineral and there is also some liquorice.. Hm, I am trying to access this sample, but it is not possible. Harsh alcohol, quite dry. Nose is with lots of wood, not much else to the nose, and palate. Sadly, I am underwhelmed. Rating off 6 says it's good, which I would not attribute to it. It's a sad thing.

Unfortunately, quite unbalanced. Fruit, wood, herbs - all very straightforward and with not particularly convincing alcohol integration. Overall, very dry and without greater sophistication.

In short: not balanced, very herbal and the alcohol is very present. In terms of taste alone, I wouldn't have put it with Clarendon at first, but in combination with the somewhat fruitier nose (compared to the palate) it is still recognizable as an EMB. But there's more to it!

From the nose, the even fun but unfortunately taste a total failure and very sharp, unclean, woody, strangely floral and unbalanced. To the finish remains something like kölsch water ode rose petal water with young wood and gasoline. Unfortunately not my case and another sign that RA is unfortunately degrading ...

The nose is still okay. But in the mouth, little fits together. Too herbal (roses?), woody, dry and the alcohol stings. Only the notes of tropical and red fruits make me think of Clarendon.

Well… obviously I seem to like it a lot more than most people… 🤔😅 Here is my „trick“: pour a glas -> forget about it -> skype with a friend for c. 2h -> remember the Rum -> alcohol feels reasonably integrated 🤷🏻♂️😅 Intense woodnotes in combination with herbs somewhat remind me of (much older) KFMs - again I actually like this one.

Well, you can drink it, but I thought I would like it a bit better. It is good, but nothing more. Edit: Gave it another chance and followed DomM's tip. Just let it sit for a long time. After an hour it gets better. You can add one or two small points. But it still doesn't really convince me. It will probably end up as a mixer for me.

Strong Clarendon with a solid basic profile but lacking balance. On the nose, sharp and bitter, the alcohol initially overpowers fruit and spice. On the palate, hints of banana, wood and spice appear but remain behind the intensity of the alcohol. Overall interesting but clearly too harsh to fully exploit the potential.

on the nose overripe tropical fruit, young wood, glue, varnish and caramel. On the palate, gasoline, nail polish remover, a fresh mint note and something that reminds me of lychee. Those expecting the balance and depth of the '95 EMBs will be disappointed. Here we have a really stark, challenging beast, but on balance I kind of like it 😉.

Good young Clarendon, has a bit of fruit (plum?) Jamaican character is there but overall quite sharp and with a distinctly bitter note in the aftertaste. Still good and interesting.

Nose: spicy-fruity, artificial-metallic. When I smell closely, I get a slightly burnt plastic smell. But clearly on top is a fine syrupy sweetness that reminds me of candied orange peel. Slightly vinegary too. Palate: strong and intense. Slightly bitter, spicy and totally minty. Also artificial towards plastic, almost dirty. Fresh lime peel gives something bitter yet fruity. Lime and mint and something artificial also in the finish. A bit bitter-tart, but in the end a good EMB.

Great mint aroma, accompanied by some wood and fruit. Very alcoholic on the palate, the mint, herbs and wood still come through a bit, unidentifiable fruity notes struggle to get past the alcohol. It could have almost been good, but it's not really well balanced. The alcohol is just too present both on the nose and in the mouth... But I like the mint notes!

In the nose and on the palate initially still quite pleasant, in the finish unfortunately too alcoholic, thin and unharmonious. Too bad, EMB is actually a great mark.

Still fine on the nose, on the palate rather let it be. Towards the end then, to top it all off, rather unpleasant bitter and alcoholic notes. Not my bottling.

Like the 1995 EMB, this rum needs time. If you give it 2 hours, it opens up. Even though the alcohol remains clearly noticeable, not a bad rum. I quite like it. The nose is especially fun. On the palate, intensely minty, dirty and alcoholic. Maybe a few more years in the cask would have done it good.

This rum is somehow strange to my taste. I basically like the wood and menthol notes. These components remind me faintly of the RA TDL. In combination with the fruity notes of berries, mirabelle, greengage and maybe even a bit of lychee, the finish strangely gives the impression of "Tabac Original" or some other aftershave. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to compare both directly yet.

Wow. I had imagined it differently. But after reading the previous reviews, it seems I actually like it above average 😂 Nose great, but not a palate caresser. Still: I find the alcoholic and petrol-like on the palate quite cool – at least for what it is. Slight dirtiness and I also like the mint. A bit more time in the glass helps.

Relatively classic Clarendon profile. If you give it a lot of time, I find it better than the community does. Yes, the alcohol is definitely not optimally integrated and too prominent on the finish, but it has something dirty that I like.

On the nose, I find it surprisingly pleasantly fruity and glue-like sweet! On the palate, besides the glue, quite harsh bitter and sharp spice notes that continue into the surprisingly short finish! The EMB is okay, but nothing more!

Nose: despite very high alcohol content no burning. Mild fruit notes that can be sharp in other Jamaicans. Underneath the grassy-plant aroma, orange/ kumquat aroma of the Eggert-RA series. No off-notes in my sample. Taste: undiluted alcohol stands out, musty notes, not the expected citrus freshness, rather thin mouthfeel, weak herbs, hint of lacquer. Finish: dull taste, pale impressions, short. Maybe shorter time in barrel / different finish would have been good. When I see other barrel proof rums that deliver much more complex notes for less money, this remains average.

I'll say this: it's a tough nut, the alcohol is very dominant, as is the woody, metallic-mineral note. It's unbalanced, adding a little water doesn't improve it, the excessive wood and bitterness remain. You have to like it.

Smell is still okay, a fruity woodiness that reminds me of the Sample X Clarendon. On the palate a sharpness that reminds me of cold salty air. Not much behind that except some fruit, bitterness, solvent, and lots of alcohol. Even flatter than the Kintra Monymusk “ALS” 2004-2018, and that one is already damn nondescript. Probably I should mix both bottles with the rest of the Kintra and age them some time in a small sherry-seasoned cask.

I probably like it much more than most. Might be because I like this dirty, petrol-heavy taste. I understand all the criticism, and that the alcohol stands out a bit, but I like the smell, the dirty profile. Certainly a matter of taste... For my part, I had to secure a second bottle.
