Here's the surprise: at 70.3% this Belize Travellers barely feels its strength on the nose — white chocolate, apricot and caramel, more roasted wood and coffee once it opens. Give it 20 minutes in the glass or the alcohol flattens everything. A few tasters found it drying and astringent, wishing the seven years had run longer. Rewards patience over gulping.

14.05.2022 Had a nice meet up with some nice rums, good friends and also new rum enthusiasts. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Light roasted wood, light chocolate, light citrus, spice, light herbs, anise, intense. Palate Intense, light wood, spicy, warm, light chocolate, spice, faint herbs, light anise, light citrus, raisin. Finish Long and warm, wood, light roasted, prunes, light chocolate, herbs. Extra note. Needs to rest for a good while or the ABV will kill most of the flavours.

Belize rums with over 70% ABV are very rare, here I have two in the glasses at once. The Sharks is a typical Spanish rum, the alcohol is quite well integrated for 70%, yet it stings unpleasantly and makes the rum inaccessible. Spirit Gallery is a completely different league. The alcohol is very well integrated, the rum much more complex. Maybe the best Belize I've had so far. Can keep up with the good ratings here.

Haha. Hab noch 4 Rums hier, nach dem ersten Schluck direkt gewusst, dass dies der Rum Shark ist :) Auf Grund der Schokolade relativ leicht erkennbar, Karamell, Vanille, Kaffee und Holz gibt es hier auch noch zu entdecken.

First of all, it needs at least 20 minutes in the glass. In the nose, a sweet profile of Belize, caramel, chocolate. On the palate, the sweet profile is preserved, chocolate, coffee. Higher ABV vibrates the tongue, short and warming finish. Perfect partner for a daiquiri.

In the comparison of the three sharks from Belize, this 7-year-old takes 3rd place. The nose is still quite restrained in terms of aromas, mainly wood and spices. The barrel has given off a lot of wood and roasted aromas in the short time, plus a slight sweetness of caramel. It is very astringent in the mouth. It would have needed a few more years.
