Surprisingly close to the Spanish style, lots of oak influence, which is expressed in vanilla and caramel sweetness. Alongside this, rather subtle impressions of spices, very one-dimensional overall.

8,3:On the nose, citrus fruits and banana, toasted coconut, perhaps roasted wood notes with caramel, spicy with nutmeg and vanilla, medicinal notes like solvents, glue, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, the feeling is a bit funky, even chemical, but buttery with slightly charred wood, smoky, meaty, delicious with coffee and fruits like peaches, dried apricots, prunes. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is tasty with toasted/roasted wood notes like butterscotch, toffee, spicy and tannic, fruity with yellow, dried fruits and orange peel, cognac dry, when rested, hazelnut, coffee and leather arise. 8,2:The finish is long, dry and tannic, earthy with tobacco, barrel impact is strong with variety of roasted wood notes and dried fruits, some coconut. This Chairmans has a very fruity and attractive nose. Besides peach and flowers, I also find a good cask influence. Also the nose seems a bit oily and has a hint of esters. On the palate again the strong wood influence, which reminds a bit of Cognac or Armagnac. Caramel, apricot, some coffee, pepper and tannins expand the moderate complexity on the tongue. The medium-long finish lives on wood, some cocoa, tannins, spices and some cask notes known from Armagnac. Maybe leaning a bit mineral as well. This Chairmans amusingly reminds me strongly of the 1776 Rye whisky barrel proof. Thanks to @bananajoe for the sample.

Number #4 of my Saint Lucia Tasting. It‘s a solid rum, more on the nuttier side, some cognac/armagnac notes, some dried dates. Everything is well balanced. The finish is medium long and delicious. Just nothing that knocks my socks off.

Besides the consistently high quality of the Chairman's Reserve releases, I especially appreciate the diversity of their styles in St. Lucia. This rum is clearly influenced by the bourbon barrel and column still distillation, which is why its profile reminds me of Foursquare or Travellers. Unfortunately, the fruitiness almost completely disappears in the short and not very lasting finish, but otherwise I like the rum not only because of the pleasant price.

Lots going on in the nose. Definitely a more adventurous rum than the usual Chairman's. More funk and fierce chemical/estery odours. Taste: very woody. Lots of dry tannins. Like an older armagnac/cognac. Wood spices. Warm. Active cask: hell yes! A very interesting, wooddriven spicy St Lucia. An indie cask so less gentle than most Lucias. Its little more than 40euros so bang for your buck!!! Get it if you like the more pungent/aggresive St. Lucias. Edit: make pinewood an official tasting note!

A diluted Chairman where the nose is first bordered by glue then accompanied by caramel and spices (nutmeg, vanilla, pepper). Wood and coffee sneak into the nostrils but the whole quickly becomes neutral. You perceive a hint of fruit brandy, but the profile blends with a very classic traditional English rum, with quite a bit of sweetness and lightness except at the start. It's somewhat frustrating. The palate is round and more marked by flavors, notably caramel, toffee, chocolate, coffee, roasted hazelnut, mild spices, and oak barrel. There are also hints of cognac and dried fruits and a hint of glue. Surprisingly, the texture is rather thin and tries to slip away in the mouth. The alcohol is well integrated. The finish is soft, roasted, warm, and of more than decent length. While the nose was not the most accomplished, the rest of the profile is more convincing, notably with roasted and dark notes on coffee, cocoa, nutmeg, and roasted hazelnut. The woodiness and cognac impregnate the mouth with a certain form of elegance. A rather soft Chairman overall but showing beautiful qualities, even attenuated by dilution.

Great Chairman's. For the price, you definitely should take it. Reminds me a bit of an Armagnac. Despite only 46%, there's a lot going on in nose and palate.

Pleasant tropical fruit notes on the nose, a little from the barrel. There is also something for the Pattex sniffer. Then comes the first sip, the bouquet is immediately accompanied by relatively strong, dark, woody and mocha-like notes. One of the better chairmen for me!

This rum smells like vanilla, coconut combined with a medicinal tone. You can also spot some barrel in the nose. To me this is more coconutty than FS. Lovely sweet rummy nose. The palette gives a big caramel note together with the vanilla. Then it becomes more tannic towards the finish. You expect it to become bitter but instead it becomes a sweet coconut flavor. Very enjoyable rum. If you want to criticize it: it could be more complex. But given the retail price, it is a great rum!

St. Lucia World Cup Tasting Fresh bright herbal notes, alongside dry leathery hints A little fruit and esters on the palate. Actually a nice mix and better than the nose. Just shy of a better rating.
