The surprise here is how much this drinks like a good white wine — that Sauternes cask leaves grape, raisin and a wine-y edge over the agricole cane. Expect orange, vanilla, honey and old oak with tobacco and a little leather. At 41% it's soft and shy; several tasters say it needs 20-30 minutes of air to open. Balanced and elegant, if a touch light on punch.

Tasting this 2014 vintage of HSE Château la Tour Blanche. The copper color of its robe is magnificent. On the nose, this rum needs a little time to open up on a sun-soaked cane juice. Strong vanilla notes fill the nostrils, with a background of candied prunes. A second nose reveals a marmalade of more exotic fruits, with discreet but well-present woodiness. It's sparkling, classy, powerful. On the palate, you find a musky rum, strong in spices. Although it only shows 41°, you feel the warmth of the alcohol without it dominating. The markers are licorice, cinnamon, and a deep woodiness of old oak, leather, cigar box on a second mouthful. The finish is long, creamy, expressive on these same spices. It's really an excellent rum to drink in the evening by the fireside, with a good cigar.

A nice HSE. Low abv is perceived at the nose, very shy and opening just waiting almost 30 minutes in orange and "confetti". Drinking, we're welcomed by a warm body with a bit of alcool kick, a bit of wood and spices and, again, orange

#5691 24.09.2025 Relaxing with a few samples after my diabetes checkup, which went pretty well. Nose Wood, light tobacco, light cherry, light leather, spice, light tannins, light wine. Palate round, wood, light raisin, light honey, light cherry, light tannins, light bitter, wine. Finish Long and warm, light bitter, wood, light roasted, wine, raisin. Empty glass Wine, light cherry, wood, light pear, faint caramel, floral.

A beautiful classic HSE finish. On the nose, I felt dried grape, a bit of citrus (orange), quite fruity and strangely an aroma of anise or licorice. On the palate, we have our "HSE side" coming back but very soft, a mix between woody and fruity, well balanced. For me, a honey side. Finish is decent and quite soft. A beautiful tasting obviously but a slight disappointment on the strength of this rum, it lacks a bit of "punch", of character for my taste.
