Velier Caroni Heavy Trinidad Rum HTR 1992
Caroni die-hards are the crowd here: this 1992 Velier is all tar, bicycle tire and workshop oil up front, then a fruity turn toward mango, banana and dried apricot. Several tasters call it oily and creamy with the alcohol tucked in nicely at 55%. A few note a bitter minty edge on the finish, but most land on "dirty, balanced and complex."

A rather sweet nose, mixing diesel and cooked banana, bicycle tire, tar, and tropical fruit. A frosty side, but less present than in the dirtier 1992 Hangar. The attack is rather soft, then the aromas arrive with force. But a certain freshness (menthol) and sweetness (caramel, pastries) complicate this rum. The finish is very long and elegant. A tar different from other Caronis, like an insulating tar for roofs. Powerful yet smooth, that's a good summary for this rum with its deep, varied aromas. An easy-drinking rum with perfectly integrated wood. Very different from 1992 Hangar 55%, yet magnificent!

A tropically matured Caroni is always something special - and this one is no exception. Already creamy and thick in the mouth with lots of typical, dirty Caroni markers on the nose and palate. There is enough wood and fruit here. I like it very much and the alcohol is sufficient.

A heavy and powerful Caroni. But interestingly more in the sweet, fruity direction than on the dirty, tarry side. No workshop notes, no dirt. But actually marzipan and orange fruit. Eternal finish. Totally balanced and complex.

Klassischer Velier Caroni mit starker Persönlichkeit. Intensive Reifenoten treffen auf Teer, Gummi und dunkle Würze, dazu dezente Frucht und etwas Lakritz. Der Alkohol ist hervorragend integriert und trägt die Aromen kraftvoll bis in den langen Nachhall. Dreckig, balanciert und komplex, so macht Caroni richtig Freude.

Einfach nur WOW! Nach etwas Zeit im Glas entwickeln sich eine Vielzahl von Aromen. Der Rum ist ölig/ cremig so wie ich es bislang noch von keinem anderen Rum kennengelernt habe. Perfekt integrierter Alkohol. Im Direktvergleich mit dem the Last ist der Geruch deutlich intensiver. Im Geschmack dann weniger Holzeinfluss dafür mehr Fruchtigkeit. Gefühlt etwas cremiger. Der Abgang könnte einen tick länger sein. Aber das ist stöhnen auf aller höchstem Niveau. Mir gefällt er geschmacklich etwas besser als der the Last. Dafür ist der Abgang etwas kürzer. Beide sind einfach toll.

Ein beeindruckender Caroni mit intensivem Aroma. In der Nase dreckige Noten und tropische Früchte, am Gaumen dann fruchtig mit typischen Caroni-Akzenten. Ölig-cremig mit perfekt integriertem Alkohol. Schwer, intensiv und genial ausbalanciert!

9:On the nose, heavy medicinal, industrial notes bump into our nosetrils with tar, rubber, varnish, bicycle tube and menthol, some tobacco, tropical fruits like banana, dried with raisins and citrus fruits, as a wood is roasted with nuts, leather, caramel, slightly spicy. On aeration, the rum becomes slightly soapy, estery, fruitier with dried apricots, berries, mango and passion fruit, a bit smoky and some pencil shavings turn out. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is intense with industrial notes and solvents, slightly dirty, spicy and salty, fruity with tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, dried with raisins and apricots. The wood is roasted with caramel, leather, a bit smoky...Molasses brings tobacco.Our tasting buds swim in complex, thick and balanced rum which in the end gets a metallic patina and menthol. 9:The finish is long, at first mostly woody with roasted notes like caramel, leather, chocolate, nuts, spicy and tannic.Heavy industrial accents are still in full mode, with metallic bias.Delicious tropical and dried, citrus fruits nicely balance heaviness and intense mood..

Nice Caroni, as you'd expect since it's not a full proof, makes it a lot more approachable. After an hour in the glass (unusual) it really unfolds again. Excellent, but unfortunately it doesn't quite make it into my personal Caroni top group.

The taste is dropping to SBS Beast in the end ... Caroni is a Trinidadian distillery, producing rum that was added at a 1:10 ratio to a navy blend at the height of its fame. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters emerge who took a liking to the rum precisely because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.

This is a very nice Caroni. The nose is heavy and definitely a Caroni. Fruity with barrel and leather and the traditional rubber and varnish/polish. The palate is complex and well balanced with ester and barrel. A warm palate with fruits and a pinch of leather. The finish is very long and warm with smoke and ester.

Sehr beeindruckender Caroni, der nicht auf der ganz dreckigen Seite ist, zumindest in der Nase. Hier hat man Einflüsse von tropischen Früchten. Im Geschmack kommen die typischen Caroni Noten zum Vorschein ohne zu aufdringlich zu sein. Insgesamt ein wirklich genialer und runder Rum. Danke an Daniel für den tollen Split.

Holy cow (Pun Intended). This is just lovely. An old tared wood plank with some methol and rubber. It is a journey that also ends up at some point with being super fruity. And it all is rather mellow in the mouth. This is just a fantastic caroni!
