A rather sweet nose, mixing diesel and cooked banana, bicycle tire, tar, and tropical fruit. A frosty side, but less present than in the dirtier 1992 Hangar. The attack is rather soft, then the aromas arrive with force. But a certain freshness (menthol) and sweetness (caramel, pastries) complicate this rum. The finish is very long and elegant. A tar different from other Caronis, like an insulating tar for roofs. Powerful yet smooth, that's a good summary for this rum with its deep, varied aromas. An easy-drinking rum with perfectly integrated wood. Very different from 1992 Hangar 55%, yet magnificent!

A tropically matured Caroni is always something special - and this one is no exception. Already creamy and thick in the mouth with lots of typical, dirty Caroni markers on the nose and palate. There is enough wood and fruit here. I like it very much and the alcohol is sufficient.

A heavy and powerful Caroni. But interestingly more in the sweet, fruity direction than on the dirty, tarry side. No workshop notes, no dirt. But actually marzipan and orange fruit. Eternal finish. Totally balanced and complex.

Classic Velier Caroni with strong personality. Intense ripe notes meet tar, rubber and dark spices, plus subtle fruit and some licorice. The alcohol is excellently integrated and carries the flavors powerfully into the long finish. Dirty, balanced and complex, that’s how Caroni really brings joy.

Simply WOW! After some time in the glass, a variety of aromas develop. The rum is oily/creamy like I've never experienced in any other rum. Perfectly integrated alcohol. Compared directly with the The Last, the smell is much more intense. On the palate, less wood influence but more fruitiness. Feels a bit creamier. The finish could be a bit longer. But that's nitpicking at the highest level. I like it a bit more in taste than The Last. But the finish is a bit shorter. Both are just great.

9:On the nose, heavy medicinal, industrial notes bump into our nosetrils with tar, rubber, varnish, bicycle tube and menthol, some tobacco, tropical fruits like banana, dried with raisins and citrus fruits, as a wood is roasted with nuts, leather, caramel, slightly spicy. On aeration, the rum becomes slightly soapy, estery, fruitier with dried apricots, berries, mango and passion fruit, a bit smoky and some pencil shavings turn out. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is intense with industrial notes and solvents, slightly dirty, spicy and salty, fruity with tropical fruits like banana, pineapple, dried with raisins and apricots. The wood is roasted with caramel, leather, a bit smoky...Molasses brings tobacco.Our tasting buds swim in complex, thick and balanced rum which in the end gets a metallic patina and menthol. 9:The finish is long, at first mostly woody with roasted notes like caramel, leather, chocolate, nuts, spicy and tannic.Heavy industrial accents are still in full mode, with metallic bias.Delicious tropical and dried, citrus fruits nicely balance heaviness and intense mood..

The taste is dropping to SBS Beast in the end ... Caroni is a Trinidadian distillery, producing rum that was added at a 1:10 ratio to a navy blend at the height of its fame. It was too strong and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000, the distillery ceased production and closed. Only in 2010 did tasters emerge who took a liking to the rum precisely because of its special taste. And the interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of "you need to try before you die" rums. I recommend it, Caroni is a truly unique rum.

Nice Caroni, as you'd expect since it's not a full proof, makes it a lot more approachable. After an hour in the glass (unusual) it really unfolds again. Excellent, but unfortunately it doesn't quite make it into my personal Caroni top group.

This is a very nice Caroni. The nose is heavy and definitely a Caroni. Fruity with barrel and leather and the traditional rubber and varnish/polish. The palate is complex and well balanced with ester and barrel. A warm palate with fruits and a pinch of leather. The finish is very long and warm with smoke and ester.

Very impressive Caroni, which is not on the very dirty side, at least on the nose. Here you have influences of tropical fruits. On the palate the typical Caroni notes appear without being intrusive. Overall a really brilliant and round rum. Thanks to Daniel for the great split.

overall a good rating but the weakest of the 5 Caroni tasted today. But the only one that provided some rubber and roasted flavors. Sorry, but I seldom find these “dirty” notes with Caronis. On the nose quite floral, apricots and bacon, caramelized. In the palate a slightly too dominant ABV and a bitterness. Dried fruits. Medium long finish with rubber notes and bitter orange.

Awesome Caroni device! Delivers what you expect and hope for. Solvent, tar, and rubber with industrial notes. After a while, esters join in, overripe fruits like banana and pineapple, and in the finish, a slight cool touch reminiscent of menthol. That slightly diminishes it for me, but that's personal. I just don't like menthol.

On the nose it starts with tar, bicycle tire and workshop smells. Then a fruity side comes out. More towards mango. Maybe a diesel drenched mango. It feels all very composed, as if the idea was always like this from the start. The taste brings a noticeable mint entry that peaks in a little soapy highlight. As soon as that soap popped up, it is gone as well. Then it turns a bit woody bitter with the dirty and sweet notes balancing each other. It tastes less composed, which is quite the contrary of the nose. The finish goes into a bitter and rubber note whereby here and there a sweet mint pops up. That bitter minty note is a flaw for me. The nose is great though. Another Caroni that needs time to be enjoyed.

A Caroni as we love them, with the expected power, generosity, and finesse. The nose is exuberant and delivers an abundance of empyreumatic notes: garage, grease, tar, tire, and rubber follow one another to create this dirty and heavy atmosphere that we love so much. Tropical fruits (banana, pineapple) and raisins accompany leather, tobacco, wood, and spices to support a complete, intense but balanced profile. A nose that every Caroni enthusiast can hope for. On the palate, you find the archetype of a Caroni for pleasure lovers: the combination of tropical fruits (pineapple, banana, passion fruit) and the typical petrol aromas of the house is simply exquisite. You get leather, tobacco, wood, spices (chili), then esters (solvents, varnish) that add depth. It’s indulgent, rich, powerful but all in balance. A smooth, intense Caroni with superbly integrated alcohol, a treat for the taste buds. The finish is long, tasty but more bitter with the wood tannins, esters, and coffee notes that enrich the profile. You find aromas of tar, rubber, and tropical fruits, but it’s the menthol and its refreshing floral breeze that give the final touch to the tasting. A Caroni that has everything to please, considered a reference for its expressive aromas, mastery, and depth.

Holy cow (Pun Intended). This is just lovely. An old tared wood plank with some methol and rubber. It is a journey that also ends up at some point with being super fruity. And it all is rather mellow in the mouth. This is just a fantastic caroni!
