Day 12 of the Samples de Luxe calendar and tasted again a year and a half later. Jamaica and Hampden are evident on the nose. Funky and fruity, lots of tropical fruit. On the palate, despite the esters and thanks to the fruitiness, the sensation is pleasant, almost easy with a little silkiness. The finish is a little disappointing, with a bitter, medicinal taste replacing the fruit. A fine rum, dense and balanced, easy to drink and with character. If I'd guessed Hampden, I'd never have imagined so many years of aging...

Tastes quite good to me ... often these old 1990s Jamaicans are too soft for me. Here is a great balance of roundness but still enough pep. However, I like the 1993 sister bottling a little better (from memory)

Endlich mal wieder ein ausgezeichneter Hampden im Glas… so wie man ihn in früheren Jahren so häufig bekam und lieben gelernt hat. Samtig und cremig verteilt er sich am Gaumen, nachdem er zuvor den Raum mit seiner Ester geflutet hat. Er ist dank seines Alters nicht mehr so wild und ungestüm, dadurch ist er wunderbar zu trinken und zu genießen! Ich bin begeistert

A superb continental Hampden with excellent aromatic concentration. A lovely bouquet of exotic fruits (mango, papaya, banana and pineapple) and citrus (lime) joins phenolic notes (esters, glue, solvents and varnish) and pastry and gourmet notes (brown sugar in particular) to produce a homogeneous, well-structured and very tasty juice. Wood has hardly permeated the juice at this stage. The rum is incredibly smooth on the palate. A perfect roundness that displays exotic fruits, citrus and acidity, esters, glue, varnish, vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, pastries (marzipan, molasses, caramel), lightly smoky notes and olive. A very smooth, oily, unctuous, complex rum with outstanding flavors. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish is very long, at once fruity with tropical fruit and citrus, phenolic, pastry-like, lightly woody on the barrel, with a touch of smoke and olive. A toppissime rum on every level.

Very very tasty Hampden. Nicely balanced. The esters are somewhat rounded off by the aging in the cask, which I like more than well together with the creaminess. But from memory, I find the 93 version a bit better.

Nice 1990 Hampden. Very fruity nose, but no longer young and wild. Also nice caramel sweetness and wood. Everything very balanced. On the palate, nice and creamy with those great fruity notes. Plus the cask notes from the years of aging. And always a subtle caramel in the background. Super balanced. Wild ester nicely matured. I like it.

The third Hampden tonight... and just barely the best. Alcohol perfectly integrated! Otherwise typical esters, fruits. On the nose hardly any lacquer or glue, but lots of esters. On the palate lots of fruit and esters, clear.

On the nose initially a tropical fruit basket, then notes of solvent come. The long maturation has probably rounded off the edges and corners somewhat without leaving too much wood. Velvety and round overall.

Woahhhhh this is magnificent 😍 After a very pleasant, very fruity nose, let's move on to the tasting and this is a knockout 🤩 an explosion of esters in the mouth, still with the fruits, caramel, the cask... explosion of flavors and very beautiful complexity. To finish with an amazing long finish 😍😍😍 definitely one of my favorite Hampdens ♥️♥️♥️

Parallel tasting of: - RX271: RumClub 26y.o. - RX8041: TRC 30 y.o. - RX7787: RA 30 y.o. - RX11796: SdR 31 y.o. - RX15404: RA 33 y.o. There is no bad rum from this vintage, and yet there are noticeable differences in a cross-comparison. For me, the RumClub and the TRC have the edge today, both are complex and fantastically balanced, the RumClub with a little more power and depth, the TRC with perfectly integrated alcohol. The younger RA is also excellent, but the alcohol integration is a little worse, hence 1 point deduction. The SdR has perfectly integrated alcohol, but is slightly weaker in terms of depth and focus, and the finish is somewhat less complex and interesting. The older RA is a little flatter again, hence last place for today.

A great rum and the old Hampden ones are actually always delicious. This C<>H shows itself with a wonderfully rich dense nose and changes over time. More herbs and smoke come through. On the palate again nicely creamy, buttery and wonderfully balanced. Nice dry finish, long-lasting but not too astringent. Excellent bottling. Really tasty. Would love more of this 😊

Nez : beaucoup de fruits exotiques, très gourmand avec du solvant. Un côté floral / végétal également qui rajoute de la vivacité. Un côté saumure aussi. Avec un côté huiles essentielles derrière également. Avec aération les nez s’améliorent je trouve. Plus gourmand / moins vif. Bouche : côte toasté des hampden, fruits exotiques, boisé. Un côté torréfié / fruits à coques, fruits secs. Entrée en bouche super douce/gourmande puis y’a le côté toasté qui arrive avec une légère acidité. On a moins l’astringence / l’amertume du bois que d’habitude, avec du pain toasté/ brûlé qui vient aussi. Et une gourmandise du fruit qui est équilibrée et qui complète le tout. En tout cas très évolutif et changeant au fil de l’aération. Finale longue.

On the nose pineapple, banana, esters, nail polish, after aeration it mellows and reveals light vanilla, pastries a creamy notes. On the palate it is quite dissapointing to me, besides tropical fruits and esters I get too much spices and something sweet-soury. It is superb Hampden, but I am not as excited as most people here. Maybe I am too young to appreciate old Hampden.
