Day 12 of the Samples de Luxe calendar and tasted again a year and a half later. Jamaica and Hampden are evident on the nose. Funky and fruity, lots of tropical fruit. On the palate, despite the esters and thanks to the fruitiness, the sensation is pleasant, almost easy with a little silkiness. The finish is a little disappointing, with a bitter, medicinal taste replacing the fruit. A fine rum, dense and balanced, easy to drink and with character. If I'd guessed Hampden, I'd never have imagined so many years of aging...

Wow, this is a lovely and fruity Hampden where you can get the ester notes. Great balance between fruit, spices and smoky wood with a touch of caramel.

Great '90 Hampden. Balanced profile of overripe tropical fruit, wood, spice, baking notes, sweetness of caramel and vanilla, plus hints of olive and some tea. A pleasure to drink!

Not quite the level of the 1993. A good HD 1990, but not a top level for me, so in my eyes a tad too expensive.

Tastes quite good to me ... often these old 1990s Jamaicans are too soft for me. Here is a great balance of roundness but still enough pep. However, I like the 1993 sister bottling a little better (from memory)

Endlich mal wieder ein ausgezeichneter Hampden im Glas… so wie man ihn in früheren Jahren so häufig bekam und lieben gelernt hat. Samtig und cremig verteilt er sich am Gaumen, nachdem er zuvor den Raum mit seiner Ester geflutet hat. Er ist dank seines Alters nicht mehr so wild und ungestüm, dadurch ist er wunderbar zu trinken und zu genießen! Ich bin begeistert

A superb continental Hampden with excellent aromatic concentration. A lovely bouquet of exotic fruits (mango, papaya, banana and pineapple) and citrus (lime) joins phenolic notes (esters, glue, solvents and varnish) and pastry and gourmet notes (brown sugar in particular) to produce a homogeneous, well-structured and very tasty juice. Wood has hardly permeated the juice at this stage. The rum is incredibly smooth on the palate. A perfect roundness that displays exotic fruits, citrus and acidity, esters, glue, varnish, vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, pastries (marzipan, molasses, caramel), lightly smoky notes and olive. A very smooth, oily, unctuous, complex rum with outstanding flavors. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. The finish is very long, at once fruity with tropical fruit and citrus, phenolic, pastry-like, lightly woody on the barrel, with a touch of smoke and olive. A toppissime rum on every level.

Schöner 1990 Hampden. Sehr fruchtige Nase, aber nicht mehr jung und wild. Daneben schöne Karamellsüße und Holz. Alles sehr ausgewogen. Im Mund dann schön cremig mit diesen tollen fruchtigen Noten. Dazu die Fassnoten von der jahrelangen Reifung. Und immer dezent im Hintergrund Karamell. Super ausgewogen. Wilder Ester schön gereift. Gefällt mir.

Der dritte Hampden heute Abend….und ganz knapp der beste. Alkohol perfekt eingebunden ! Ansonsten typische Ester, Früchte. An der Nase kaum Lack oder Klebstoff, aber viel Ester, Am Gaumen viel Obst und Ester, klar.

An der Nase zunächst ein tropischer Obstkorb, dann kommen erst die Noten von Lösungsmittel. Die lange Reifung hat die Ecken und Kanten wohl etwas abgerundet, ohne zu viel Holz zu hinterlassen. Samtig und rund das Ganze.

Woahhhhh c’est magnifique 😍 Après un passage au nez plus qu’agréable, très fruité, passons à la dégustation et la c’est la claque 🤩 une explosion d’esters dans la bouche, avec toujours les fruits , le caramel, le fut … explosion de saveurs et très belle complexité. Pour finir avec une longueur terrible 😍😍😍 définitivement un de mes Hampden préféré ♥️♥️♥️

Ein toller Rum und die alten Hampden sind eigentlich durchweg immer lecker. Dieser C<>H zeigt sich mit einer wunderbaren fetten dichten Nase und verändert sich mit der Zeit. Es kommen mehr Kräuter und Rauch. Am Gaumen wieder schön cremig, buttrig und toll ausbalanciert. Hinten raus schön trocken, lang anhaltend aber nicht zu adstringierend. Hervorragende Abfüllung. Richtig lecker. Gerne mehr davon 😊
