"All the expected Caroni notes are there once rested," as one Danish taster put it: rubber, tar and smoky wood, with a light orange note running through it. The nose can charm with vanilla and ripe orange, but the palate turns drier and more one-track. Several fans call it a good Caroni that just isn't top-tier — a touch too simple next to the heavy, oily bottlings.

#4090 This is a very nice Caroni and a smoky one indeed. In the glas it's a bit cloudy but nothing that matters. All the expected Caroni notes are there once rested, rubber, tar and smoky wood. There is a light orange note in the profile and I like that. Well balanced and good ABV integration. Draws really nice and slow curtains and the empty glass has even more smoke and fruit flavours.

Very good Caroni. Sensationally good nose for a Caroni. Properly emphasized rubber. Otherwise chocolate, fruit, leather, menthol, smoky and then some peach and coffee on the finish. Unfortunately, it loses a little of its momentum on the finish and is quickly gone; it is also less complex on the finish. But it is still good fun to drink.

8,8:On the nose, industrial with rubber and tar, slightly dirty, oily, with menthol hints, toasted wood/oak notes like chocolate, vanilla, slightly sweet, vegetal, herbaceous molasses, earthy with cigar tobacco, orange, dried apricots, raisins, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, mango and citrus fruits arise, molasses is slightly minty, musty, earthy with hints of peat, nuts, leather, caramel, spicy allspice, join. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is balanced with industrial notes like rubber and tar, petrol hints, medicinal with varnish hints, molasses is earthy with cigar tobacco, later minty, mineral, vegetal with chesnuts, dark with licorice, the wood/oak is toasted with caramel, coffee, leather, spicy with anise, peppery, the fruits are tropical, slightly fermented, buttery with dairy hints, dried. 8,8:The finish is long, dry&tannic with toasted oak notes, spicy, warm, smoky, charred, dark, industrial, medicinal, fruity with citrus, slightly fermented tropical fruits, as molasses is vegetal, dark with black tea, earthy.

All the expected Caroni notes are there as soon as it rests: rubber, tar, and smoky wood. There's a slight orange note in the profile and mint comes gradually, which I like. Well balanced and a smooth finish. Definitely not the best Caroni, for that it would need to be a bit heavier, oilier, and more complex. But certainly a good representative.

A wolf in sheep's clothing - In the nose first with beguiling vanilla note, fully ripe orange notes and a little wood and caramel. Then much more brash on the palate: burnt wood, heavy spices, plus the typical Caroni HTR flavors with the focus on gum notes quite typical of 97 releases. Unfortunately, the sweetness of the nose is missing as a counterweight, which is why the impression on the palate remains somewhat too one-dimensional for me overall.

A good Caroni that initially seems promising but then fades quickly in the finish. The HTR aromas are the focus here, with little sweetness and fruit (actually only oranges (peel) here). The alcohol is well integrated.

What a delightful Caroni on the nose. Lovely flowers, a touch of sweetness with fruity notes and delicious rubber,. Taste: the same sweetness fruity notes, chocolate, fruit, leather, a touch of menthol, and especially iced tea peach. The finish is reasonable to long, but not complex. It's a delicious Caroni and easy to enjoy, but it lacks complexity or volume compared to high-end Caronis. But the price reflects that. It is a delicious rum, but based on experience with other Caroni's I now give this rating.

So honored to try another Caroni sample. The aroma is a wonderful palette of wood, smoke and tar scents. Later, the aroma of fruit (orange) and chocolate comes to the fore. I wouldn't have guessed such a high ABV from this aroma. The taste itself offers a combination of wood, smoke, black pepper, but there are also technical flavors (mostly rubber). What I loved was heavy cigar flavor. Finish is long (at least for me) with flavors of wood, smoke, rubber but there is again that tar flavor. Overall great, gently rum from Trinidad with high ABV, which does not prevent individual aromas and flavors from showing their potential. Love it.

Overall a very fruity rum. But somewhat lacking in balance. At the beginning the alcohol content is very present while the nose is dominated by fruity and woody aromas. In the middle the fruitiness does come out. In the finish very warm and prickly reminiscent of black pepper.
