VS Distillers J. Gow Spiced Rum

Poured neat it reads like a Christmas market in a glass — cinnamon, vanilla, gingerbread and a little sour cherry, with the pot-still base showing as a home-made-hooch fruitiness underneath. Several tasters find the spicing dominant and the palate mostly woody and alcoholic. One reviewer even had "an almost religious experience" pairing it with cheap hazelnut chocolate. Works best over ice or in cola.

How does VS Distillers J. Gow Spiced Rum taste?

Aggregated from 74 community reviews.

Cinnamon-heavy spiced rum, more mixer than sipper Middle-of-the-road spiced rum. A few find it fruity and enjoyable; more say the cinnamon overpowers and the rum itself barely shows through. Divisive, leans everyday-mixer.

Sample no.23 of the 24 days of rum calendar 2022. Very artificial and christmas-y on the nose. Baking spices as cinnamon and gingerbread along with something fruity from cherries. Palate is just woody and alcoholic. Some very faint notes of the spices after a few seconds. As a spiced rum I guess it’s ok but nothing I would buy a bottle of.

23rd sample of 24 days of rum offers a pot still Scottish spiced rum containing less then 5 g of sugar per litre. 👃 reminds me of a home-made hooch/booze or pálenka (in our country) distilled from various kinds of fruits but with spices included in this one. We can distinguish pear, plum, raisins it is very fruity, aromatic and rich in flavor. 👅 is really sweet, I don't believe the claim that there is less than 5 g of sugar per litre. Taste is definitely better for me. It is slightly spicy, fruity (all mentioned above) sweet but the hints of home made booze is still there :) Long finish. Definitely one of better spiced rums that I had a chance to try and this is coming from someone who is not a big fan of spiced rums.

Floaty, poorly chosen artificial spice aromas, the little alcohol is very poorly integrated, non-existent length. For a spiced rum it may be okay, but for a rum it's worthless.

Paradoxically, this sample is not easy to evaluate. The smell is Christmasy ordinary, it is like a Christmas market oder where the spices are too much. The artificiality bothers me a bit in the taste, but I can feel the hallmark a bit. Overall, I'm bothered by the low influence of the rum itself, it's more of a sharpened and flavoured vague alcohol.

How should I rate spiced rum in rumratings? It is not rum. Well, I have no idea, how this rum tastes, there is only spices like gingerbread and cinnamon. Sorry.

Many different flavors in this spiced rum. Not necessarily bad. I like it neat, maybe something for a cocktail to play with the flavors.

A grower For some reason I had a very cheep sweet hazelnut chocolatebar with and it changed to an almost religious experience, this will be added to my collection.
