CDI T.D.L Trinidad (Bottled for Caksus) 2003
Most tasters land in the 8.5-9 range, and the split is really just about how much mint you want. The nose is a peach-and-tropical-fruit bomb; the palate flips to intense menthol with tobacco, leather and dry oak. A few catch a bit of glue or sharp edges, but the 56.3% is well tucked in. One member called it "one of the best TDLs" they'd tasted.
The community says- Rich mint/menthol
- Peach-heavy nose
- But: Mint can dominate

Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Fruity nose, intense minty Trinidad sipper A well-loved 2003 TDL: fruity nose, then a menthol-and-tobacco palate people find complex yet drinkable. The catch is the mint dominates — great if you love it, tiring if you don't.

WoW another minty TDL from CDI. I really love this symbiosis between mint/anise and wood/nuts/roasted almonds. Very unique rum. The alcohol is integrated very well. Long minty finish 🤤The value for money ratio is very good too. For me this one is behind the ‘19 version. I found the 19 is more rounder and a bit woodier, which synergy smoother and better. PN: You won’t like it, if you hate minty/anise notes. For me: 16yr>18yr of aging

Alcohol too strong. Like a Ricola in pure alcohol (tasty but alcohol dominates)

First RumX meeting. A mentholated nose but with fruits (tropical, yellow and red) and flowers. A beautiful wood support. Sweetness on the palate with a canned peach side. The aromas rise, then drop quite quickly for a rather short finish. The mint however lingers for a long time.

At first I was a bit disappointed, but I like it more with every sip. I expected something extraordinary and found one of my favorite easy-drinking rums. On the nose: mint, falernum (cloves, ginger, citrus peels), yellow fruits of a cognac (grapes and peach) and warm wood. On the palate it is more intense, after the mint the charred cask is more present than on the nose, otherwise the profile is similar with less clove. In the finish the mint fireworks really start: mint, menthol, more mint and more menthol - unfortunately also a bit sharp-edged. Tried it together with the 1802 exclusive. The differences are marginal, the 1802 is a bit smoother, lighter fruits and less roasted - in my opinion overall on the same level, with a slight plus for the 1802. Edit: Tasted after RdL and FRC 2002. Less minty than RdL, much more intense than FRC. A somewhat different profile. I stick to the rating.

Nose rather indulgent: fruit, caramelized sugar, a spicy and mentholated side. It's inviting. The palate is very different: strong and dry, with very "earthy" notes: leather, tobacco notably. A enveloping menthol sensation. Oak is also present. A very pleasant finish, slightly bitter, a bit more indulgent. It's a very good rum. I like it a lot. Edit: really very good!! I should have doubled the bottle! It was worth it. I kept a small 3cl sample. Edit: still as good. It has kept all its liveliness despite oxidation. The wood seems more marked now. The menthol is omnipresent. Superb rum.

Very nice TDL with nice citrus & lychee tones! I definitely like it better than the 1802 which is a few months older. This one is really extremely harmonious, not too much wood, not too much mint, very complex and drinkable, could just have a bit more power...

Superb bottle! Typical profile of a TDL, fan of this distillery. Tasted again at the Rhum Club Paris evening (Hôtel Maison Mère)

Ever tasted a rum where the taste changes like the color in a chameleon? This rum is a chameleon! Initially deliciously sweet and overripe peach on the nose and palate (imagine a juicy yellow-reddish fruit), the chameleon later changes color to rich, tart mint green. What a play of colors! I like this rum exceptionally well. But whether it can also hand the color pot 😉 to the now almost legendary CDI T.D.L 2003 16 yo (RX944) remains to be seen in a direct comparison.

Quite a typical TDL profile from the early 2000s. Rich menthol note, strong wood and spice notes - if you like this profile, you'll find it here. But there are more exciting releases from those years that bring more aromatic complexity.

Super tdl. It's very mentholated but there are also citrus fruits that are strong and make the whole very pleasant. Beautiful discovery.
Review by TheRhumhoe
A TDL that hides its game well. The nose starts with the freshness of eucalyptus and menthol, then moves towards fruity notes of berries, blackcurrant, peach and citrus. The profile is quite spicy but also reveals notes of caramel and burnt sugar. It's not the most intense profile, but it is particularly smooth and accommodating. A real 180-degree turn on the palate, here the fruits are less present in favor of more empyreumatic and petrol notes, enhanced by a slight bitterness, menthol, tobacco, spices (licorice, anise, chili, pepper, vanilla). The profile is oily, much dirtier and rougher than the nose suggested. The alcohol remains well integrated despite everything. The finish is long, intense and quite drying (even tannic). Bitterness stands out along with leather, a petrol-like, metallic and slightly spicy side. Menthol is also very present, masking much of the formerly perceptible fruitiness. A deceptive TDL, a bit electric at the end and still full of surprises.

Palate Round, balanced, light wood, oily, fruity, light orange, mint, light herbal, faint tannins, light earthy. Finish Long and warm, round, balanced, wood, light roasted, fruits, light pear, light orange, spice, mint. Empty glass Mint, light chocolate, light orange, light herbal, faint polish.

8,6:On the nose, tropical fruits like pineapple, passion fruit, peaches and grapefruit, minty and fresh molasses, oaky, spicy wood, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, burnt sugar and baked apple join the game. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is delicious, slightly dry, with barrel impact notes pairing tropical fruits like passion fruit, citrus with grapefruit, lime and peaches, rubber and menthol. The wood is spicy with anise, smoky and nutty. 8,7:The finish is long, dry, the molasses is grassy, minty, the fruits tropical and citrus, as the wood is toasted, spicy.

Soo fruity and both bitter as hips ... Distillerka TDL produces beautiful, delicate mint rums. Unfortunately, mint is not always the main flavor, but you can always find a trace of it in TDL rums. One of the rums you must taste in your life to have a complete overview of flavors from the rum world. No other distillery produces rums with a mint flavor.

Another mint bomb from the 2003 TDL… I like that… The nose is extremely minty.. top-notch, On the palate, mint is joined by tobacco, spice, and a bit of lime. The finish continues these flavors… before the mint takes over again with a long-lasting presence.

For me personally, slightly better than the very good 2003 bottling from The Whisky Jury. Simply because the CDI doesn't bring as much acidity in the finish. Otherwise on par with lots of mint, fruity, dirty, spicy, woody. The alcohol is very well integrated. Complex, yet still easy to drink.

I tasted a lot of rum with Artur yesterday and I didn’t take any tasting notes. Artur was a great host and we had a good time chatting and sipping rum.

Refreshing. Fruity, complex. Balanced. Cleanly integrated alcohol. Where the alcohol strength usually kicks in, a minty note appears.
Review by Righrum
Wow. On the nose this is a fruit bomb. Peaches and papaya stands out, while in the background there is some additional sweetness, caramel and wood mainly. Drink side, peaches are again dominating the scene, while I'm the end some glue adds to the party, but to my taste it's not a good thing. Very nice rum, without this nasty glue score would have risen a lot

Wow, another great Trinidad, it does not always have to be Caroni, this one does not need to hide. The nose fruity, spicy, then on the palate this dirty, medicinal, metallic. You could add various notes in this direction. The finish could be bissl longer, but otherwise really cool stuff.
Review by HenryL
From the nose I wouldn't have guessed Trinidad, it resembles the Spanish style very much but with a mint note. I'd place it at Venezuela here. In the mouth much more intense and nothing like Spanish style. Really crazy! Has a bit of ice candy with mint note, but with stem. Later some licorice and coal come in, but the mint dominates completely. Very exciting, very tasty! The nose is almost boring, but in the mouth a great mint fireworks, that's how I like Trinidad best!

Really top juice. Very indulgent, on the nose and tasting, woody and mentholated, nice length... superb 🤩
Review by Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪
The nose is fruity (citrus/passion fruit). On the fruit syrup! Burnt sugar, mint... it's gourmand! On the palate, it's even more expressive than the nose. A blend of mint/fruit/smoke. The finish is long, with an intense mint note! I love it! I'm delighted to have picked up a bottle from my friend Min, so that I can get back to it soon, as well as for my buddy Selvamino.

One could probably say that if I'm not mistaken, CDI introduced us to the minty Trinidads. Here, besides the mint, I'm also enjoying quite a bit of smoke, fruit, and spices. A really nice piece that taught us all to look in this direction.

Big slap!! Nice surprise for me.. this mentholated side with this woody note is top.

Very slight roughness but behind that it's very beautiful, nice reduction for a fresh and fruity red glug and length. What I like.

#keinprofi Schöne Noten von Frucht und Frische im Geruch. Leichtigkeit im Geschmack. Komplex ohne für ungeübte Genießer too much zu sein.

Again a typical representative of the minty TDL 2001-2003. I like it very much!

Read full review ›Top selection, sadness to have missed it because it's clearly the kind of rum I like, at a strength that suits me particularly... It's fruity, slightly dirty, reasonably woody and with well-integrated alcohol for a price that's not too crazy.
