Chairman's Reserve Master's Selection (Romhatten #5) 1999
Members who've worked through the whole Romhatten series rank this near the top, and the reason is intensity. Smoky wood, leather and polish on the nose, then raisins, cherry and dried plum on a heavy, oily palate that stays dry and turns bitter and astringent late. At 66.5% the alcohol is remarkably well integrated. A couple of tasters compare it to old Guyana Enmore. The finish just won't quit.</snapshot> <parameter name="review">Widely rated among the best Chairman's bottlings — dry, dark and hugely concentrated. Nearly everyone loves it; the only recurring grumble is the price.

Another retaste and I stick to my initial score. This is the bomb of Chairman’s Reserve. A very intense and well balanced rum. I was very locky to get a sample and I like it a lot. The nose is intense and has smoky wood and fruit trailed by cinnamon and coffee. The palate takes off where the nose left. A warm and intense rum, yet well balanced with smoky wood, fruits and spices. The finish is extremely long and warm with smoky wood, dried fruits and spices. Price to quality can be argued, when I compare it to my other old Chairman’s Reserve rums for which I paid less than half :-)

Approx. 400 Esters in this one. Good richness in aroma and flavor with fruity notes.
