Nose is very nice. It has a lingering smoked pepper / chipotle bbq note which I like very much. This comes alongside classic Hampden notes with pineapple (acidity as well as grilled) and some marzipan. Very nice. Intense yet well balanced on the palate. Smokiness is present again but not dominating. I get some herbal notes alongside Hampden funk with grilled pineapple and tropical fruits.

Delicious continental Hampden with a great smoky note, which goes wonderfully with the pineapple, the fine wood and the cooked fruit with spices. There is also a little spiciness (chili) on the palate, which with the pineapple and smoke really makes you want to barbecue. Alcohol could be better integrated.

FUNKY ! Wow, cette odeur ! On se téléporte en Jamaïque dans la demi seconde. De la colle, des fruits très mûrs. Puis un ananas doux et subtil. La première gorgée est forte. Les 62° sont bien là. C'est fort et piquant. Presque comme du piment (fort). Immédiatement, le feu est calmé pour une gourmandise incroyable. Tout ce sucre et ce fruit ! Le piquant reste très longtemps en bouche. L'ananas est présent en arrière-plan également. Puis l'aération laissent apparaître une touche iodée ainsi que le bois qui était resté très discret jusque là. C'est franchement très bon. Malheureusement, trop fort pour moi pour devenir un rhum du quotidien. Ca reste une vraie belle découverte. Edit : impression confirmée. Bombe d'esters avec un joli boisé mais un ABV très élevé pour moi.

Weekend trip with my brother to our old hometown Oelde in memory of our father. Let's start the day with a great Hampden. We have some ester, overripe tropical fruits, but above all solvent and glue.

A great Hampden that brings everything I appreciate about this distillery. I especially like the transition in the mouth from the initial astringent ester kick through the fermented, sour fruit notes to the roasty cask influence with its gentle wood smoke accompaniment. The mouthfeel is appealingly lively, without notable alcoholic peaks, and thus skillfully showcases the impressive aromatic density.

Small Rum Sponge Hampden JMH X-Tasting: now the older, now twice as expensive, but also significantly more complex of the two. Even though both are clearly identifiable as Hampdens, this one is completely different. A smoky note is striking, extending from the nose to the finish; since it is not reminiscent of whiskey, I don't find it disturbing, but rather "smoked." On the palate, there is also some chili, cedar wood, and a stronger influence from the barrel. For me, this is something completely new that you should try! For Hampden purists, this is something completely new.

#6024 04.12.2025 Need to run some samples after the old St. Croix number 4 from my Christmas Calendar. Nose Medium intense, light wood, polish, light glue, fruity, light smoke, light citrus, banana, light marzipan. Palate Oily, fresh, medium intense, light wood, light smoke, glue, faint polish, pineapple, light banana, faint cherry, light floral, light mint, medium spicy, light marzipan. Finish Long and warm, oily, light wood, light mint, light peach, light smoke, light spicy. Empty glass Peaches, light smoke, light chocolate, light floral, light mazipan. Needs to rest for a while for the ABV and the power of the profile to settle properly.
