Excellent Savanna! Intense and yet balanced. Pineapple, esters and light mint play super together. This one is really fun!

A particularly expressive and flavorful Savanna Grand Arôme. The nose offers beautiful fruity fragrances ranging from exotic fruits to red fruits, yellow fruits and dried fruits. The notes of the barrel are slightly perceptible, with a welcome touch of greediness to the profile, which is intense and fairly concentrated in aroma. Spicy and medicinal notes (esters, olive) battle for second place in the glass. One of Savanna's most intense profiles. The attack is very round, with good aromatic amplitude. Tropical and red fruit flavors are pronounced, very intense and greedy. The spices are particularly well developed (pepper, chili, ginger, salt) and combine with esters, olive, cognac, armagnac and a slight sweetness of caramel to create a very harmonious whole, with the alcohol superbly well integrated. The finish is long, still fruity with those medicinal notes around, but slightly drier, tannic and bitter, with more herbaceous notes, tea and leather. There's also a touch more caffeine and roast. A superb rum that masters its subject, as tasty as it is delicate, with an impressive aromatic palette.

21.05.2022 Sampling at home. Notes Medium to dark in colour Nose Intense, fresh, esters, light wood, faint smoke, fruity, pineapple, light berries, faint glue. Palate Intense, round, light wood, light roasted, fruity, esters, pineapple, faint cherry, faint chocolate, balanced. Finish Long and warm, light roasted wood, balanced, esters, medium dry, light pineapple. Extra note Needs to rest for a while to release all its wonderful flavours.

A dense and warm rum with plenty of tropical maturity. The nose reveals coffee, ripe bananas, and a slightly medicinal note. On the palate, blueberries, bananas, and a pronounced mineral ester note combine with hints of iodine, strawberry, and currant. The texture is oily and full, with a beautifully round and lingering finish. Overall, a rum with a strong character that is a real pleasure to drink.

Insanely exciting Savanna. Unusual nose with caramel candies, coffee, oak but also the more typical Savanna aromas like fully ripe pineapple, strawberry, steamed artichoke & olive brine. Aromatically more of a dry, not too sweet strawberry, sour pineapple, some dry oak and Armagnac notes, a bit of honey, fresh herbs like thyme and lemon balm. Very pleasant and nicely lightly sweet and not as extremely funky as other grand aromes. Very well balanced and easy to drink!

Very intense and thick on the nose. There is a solid amount of esters providing tropical fruits which are wounderfully integrated in vanilla (creme) and wood notes. Feels pretty mature and elaborate. Very nice. On the palate backing spices like cinnamon take center stage again with a solid amount of esters and tropical fruits as well as a hint of mineral notes. Very tasty.

Seems like a slightly tamed Grand Arôme - but that does not mean that the bottling would lack even the slightest bit of power. Powerful fruit esters, wood, mint, plus some mint tea...impressive.

👃 This GES releases a very gourmand first impression! It's indulgent and pastry-like with nougatine, crème catalane, roasted pineapple, maple syrup. A beautiful note of freshly cut green mint accompanies well-ripened tropical fruits (pineapple again, mango, banana, guava, papaya, kumquat). Aging in Cognac barrels and finishing in Armagnac barrels bring lovely cooking spices (green pepper, cayenne pepper, pink peppercorns) and Christmas spices (cinnamon, clove, ginger, vanilla). The fruity aspect evolves towards rum-soaked raisins, wild strawberries, which themselves bring scents of undergrowth, fallen leaves along an autumn path. Finally, somewhere at the bottom of the glass, salty smells of green and fermented olives on... well-aged sheep cheese 😳 The esters are playing tricks on me! An evolving, complex, intense and refined nose. Simply perfect. 😋 A magnificent palate mixing well-sugared strawberries carried by beautiful esters. Victoria pineapple, all fructose and perfectly roasted in its muscovado sugar, comes back strong and dominates this fruity note. In the background, all kinds of citrus tasting of sunshine! Kumquat, blood orange, pink grapefruit. Then in retro-olfaction a shower of harlequin candies 🍬🪅 Lots of spices already well present on the nose with a peppery dominance. The woody character, authentic and subtle, could be compared to that found in grape eaux-de-vie. I would say the Armagnac barrel finish is also found on the palate, comparable to some Bas-Armagnacs from Ugni Blanc grape (Domaine de Pellehaut, Maison Fontan). Nicely fruity, with acidity and freshness. It's balanced and tasty! ⛳ The finish is very long and slightly bitter. A bit of mint and a mix of tea (Maison Bourgeon offers excellent infusions). On the palate walls, pieces of candied pineapple and other tropical fruits, small green olives and shavings of precious wood have embedded themselves. A Masterclass!

It's back to autumn and thus the rum season. In the sampling jam waits a very good Savanna Wild Island with Armagnac and Cognac barrel. You can smell and taste that. On the nose a great sweetness of raisins and dried fruit. Honey, young wood, chocolate/mocha and olive. On the palate more spices like pepper and allspice. Light bitter notes on the finish. Well done all around.

A very good Savanna. The aging in Armagnac and Cognac barrels is certainly not to everyone's taste, but I love it here! It fits wonderfully and gives it something special! Rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favorites. I recommend everyone to try especially the ester-rich pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven’t felt so much fruit in a few drops of liquid for a long time.

Online tasting organised by Mirco, super interesting tasting! I'm not an expert in Savanna so that was definitely an experience. Sixth one in the tasting, this one comes up with a pastry like sweetness. Easy to get into.

Great Savanna aroma, as they do so well. Super gourmet roasted pineapple, super pleasure. I think it's very good, but it's a little below LMDW's unshared for me.

On the nose: Oh, this my gem. That overripe pineapple and ester smell that i associate with Savanna. I get notes of papaya and overripe banana aswell. Taste: the alcohol is not integrated that well in here, butonce you work with the high abv in your mouth, you get that tropical fruits palate that the smell of the rum indicated. Again overipe pineapple is the dominant one. Papaya and notes of overripe banana. Lovely tropical fruit palate. Finish: Long and fruity forward. That fermented flavour but papaya forward.That overripe pineapple is also in there. Little bit of bitterness Quite an intense experience. If you like Savanna and that overripe tropical fruit flavour, this is for you. Althou, the pricetag in this is too high in my experience.

Yeah, what can you say. What a great, great rum. This is a classy complex masterpiece, almost too complex to describe. Fruity, at the same time spicy, definitely a flavor explosion. Really highly recommended!

I was really looking forward to this bottle and although I didn't get a bottle to open, luck smiled on me during a tasting at Prague's Havana. It's a very good Grand Arome Savanna, which retained the flavors of Armagnac and Cognac from the casks in the taste. Esters are beautifully felt, very pleasantly light, anise, honey. I definitely rank it in the top 10 Savan I've drunk.

Desert That legendary desert from barrel 991. Brutal grand aroma that perfumes the whole room right after pouring into the glass. Huge amount of fruit, esters, wood and a bit of mint. And those strawberries..! Nowadays impossible to get.

01/11/2025: sample bought from Filip Sikula. Wow, this has to be one of the best Savanna's I've ever tasted! The nose is so beautiful and inviting, I could smell this for hours. The palate has the same estery, pineapple, strawberry notes and its just great. Very nice Grand Arôme.

Savanna triple tasting: #991 on the nose nice spicy aromas. Pineapple paired with olives. On the palate a really awesome smoky, spicy note. Again pineapple and maybe even strawberries in the mix. Strong finish. Buy it!

The ges is magnificent for me who has tasted a lot of Savanna, it's a top 5, apart from Herr (although), what is really nice with Savanna are the cognac, armagnac, Calvados finishes, but you have to admit that when it goes through cognac/armagnac plus the big aroma side, you are rarely disappointed. I remember the first olfactory impression, opened a bottle with friends, one exclaimed, there's armagnac in this! The woodiness of this finish at Savanna is oriented towards grape marc, a pineau des charentes side all mixed with exotic fruits, a mouth, there is still a big attack but everything is perfectly integrated, the nobility of the metropolitan casks blends with the Reunion terroir, what class, one of the best bottlings of the distillery for sure, maybe lacking a bit of length (I drink quite a lot of big tdl at the moment), different, magnificent noble, classy.

Great bottling. A tame Grand Arome and that just fits. Great fruit notes with some mint. If a Grand Arome is too extreme for you, you should give this one a chance.

Nose: very pastry-like compared to the forest, lots of chocolate / vanilla / wood / tobacco. A little pastry side of the 2003 TDL with a slight acidity that lifts it all. A typical brine background of the distillery after aeration. Here everything is well melted, nothing stands out from the others. Palate: wow, the chocolate, the wood, the solvents, the olive, the pastry, everything is well integrated and melted together. Incredible balance. A real slap. Alcohol incredibly well integrated. A very nice very TDL side. 91/100

After 30 minutes of aeration, no doubt on the nose we're on a GA, ripe olive, strawberry candy and some citrus notes. On the palate, I find the attack spicy but reasonable, then the GA expresses itself in the best way. This is the best Savanna has to offer.
