Peach iced tea is the thread everyone keeps pulling on here — dried peach, astringent black tea, mint, wrapped in leather and tannic oak. This is a dry, 14-year agricole from Bielle, not a sweet one: barely any sugar, plenty of wood and spice. At 50.5% the alcohol sits remarkably well integrated. A touch smokier and more bitter than its cross-tasting siblings, and one taster wished for less of that meaty note.

Rhum Bielle LMDW 2001 X-Tasting: A unique set that Daniel has dug up here. This one has almost no sweetness. Blind, I would probably have guessed a TDL because of the peach iced tea. Alcohol really perfectly integrated!

Yeah, this is my daily winner of this 9-piece set, the remaining 3 will follow :) Yeah, it's really brilliant, hardly any alcohol noticeable, otherwise quite spicy and woody, but also nicely meaty, leather and licorice are also in there.

Bielle 2001 No. 11 This bottling is just a bit stronger than the RX11577, otherwise they are quite similar. I like the edginess here just a bit more. The finish is wonderfully long.

Epic BIELLE 2001 tasting. A great vintage, the set was consistently high quality. Only RX5741 and RX4918 were a bit too woody/bitter for me. There was also a clear winner, the cask selected by Kirsch was for me the most intense, harmonious. Here was a perfect mix of wood, fruit and spices. The blend is also great, but at 45% it suffers a bit on the palate. Overall I think the highest quality set I've tasted and I believe you will never get it again like this.

21.10.2022 Going through samples at home. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, faint smoke, berries, spice, faint solvent, faint chocolate. Palate Oily, balanced, medium intense, fruity, berries, light cherry, spice, light wood, light salty, medium dry. Finish Medium to long, oily, balanced, fruity, cherry, medium dry, light cherry, faint chocolate.

Today I'm testing a few Bielles from BananaJoe's Megasplit. Compared to each other, these bottlings are at a very high level and differ only minimally. Although I'm not the biggest fan of the profile, it really grabbed me.

"Great Bielle 2001 Cross-Tasting": at first nose a bit fermented and meaty, but that fades after some time. Complemented by red grape, mint, and peach. Overall noticeably smokier than its predecessors in the tasting. On the palate, also clearly drier and fresher. Mint, astringent black tea, dried peach, and some leather and tobacco, as well as significantly more wood and tannins. Overall a bit too "bitter" and astringent for my taste, and honestly this slightly meaty smoky note bothers me a bit, which I would have rather expected from TECA Long Pond.
