"The better Malibu" is how one member sums it up, and that's the honest frame: at 25% this is really a coconut liqueur, not a rum. Expect big coconut, vanilla and plenty of sugar, with a slight spirity edge some tasters didn't love. A few call the coconut natural and pleasant; others find it artificial and syrupy. #6910 13.06.2026 Relaxing with some samples after a nice dinner and evening at my friends place. Listening to some powerful Psy Trance on Spotify. A very cheap mixer with a lot of coconut, vanilla, caramel and sugarcane.

Day trip Münster July 2025. Pub Bar Levin. Here are three Takamakas I still need. First, the coconut. Actually not bad at all, quite sweet, but the coconut and vanilla balance that out quite well.

Extremely sweet, almost soapy and syrupy and rather artificial. Has something of Bounty coconut bars and also slightly spritzy... There are definitely much better representatives of coconut rum in my opinion!

At 25%, I’d rather call it a coconut liqueur. To be used exclusively for long-drink cocktails (like Pina Colada or others...), very sweet with a slight vanilla taste but very good in the end.

Ein Besuch der Takamaka-Destillerie lohnt sich! Während der Pandemie hat sich die Destillerie neben ihrer qualitativ hochwertigerem Pot-Still aus frischem Zuckerrohrsaft von den Seychellen in sehr kleinen Mengen ein zweites Standbein durch eine dreifach Column-Still aufgebaut, die mit Melasse aus dem Ausland (Mauritius) arbeitet. Damit kann kontinuierlich in großen Mengen produziert werden, wobei hiermit das Cocktail- and Anfängersegment bedient wird. Durch die dreifache Destillation entsteht ein sehr neutraler Rum, der im Nachgang mit Aromen (z.B Fruchtessenzen, Zimt, Vanille, manchmal auch mit Farbstoff und Zucker) versetzt wird. Dieser Rumlikör ist etwas besser als die Ananasvariante. Das neue Segment hilft der Destillerie finanziell, aber ein Qualitätsrum entsteht dabei nicht.

Artificially flavored, heavily sweetened, only 25% ABV and still tastes boozy... you really have to manage that.

Very nice, natural coconut note. Enhances many long drinks, better to use Takamaka instead of Monin coconut syrup. Especially Pina Coladas rock immensely with it.

Not much to add except that it tastes like a coconut praline, or a less flavored bounty, or a less sweet Malibu :) If it had more volts and less sugar it would almost taste like the new Planterey coconut.. My wife liked it a lot, I didn't mind it and for mixers the price/performance ratio is great, no doubt about it, definitely will add to the fridge for summer.

Nice coconut that doesn't taste as sweet as others. Reminds me more of coconut water with a few percent of alcohol. For me, a wonderful liqueur, neat, on ice, or especially as a Lazy Pina Colada just mixed with pineapple juice. The Coco Rum is what I started my journey with. A few years ago I saw a good deal and consciously bought something rum-based for the first time. That's why this rum liqueur always has a place in my collection.

A purchase made out of curiosity - neat, the coconut tastes too artificial for my liking, but in cola it surprisingly works well. Nothing more though.
