The Rum Mercenary & Kintra Bonne Mère Sample X
Chili, tropical fruit and warm spice tumble out of this cask-strength Bonne Mère single cask — one taster called it a wild mix of "kiwi, mango" and dark chocolate. Fans love the fruity-woody complexity and oily mouthfeel for a young six-year-old. The recurring gripe: the alcohol isn't fully tucked in, and it can bite. A few members even reach for food alongside it.

Sample found and emptied on 8/10/24 There are two points on it, the rum simply offers so much complexity and this unique chili note that still makes me hungry today; the rum is just crying out for food pairing. I would say it needs more of that — maybe two or three more years of aging, but please give us more 🙏 First tasting: A real tropical fruit bomb on the nose, unfortunately the alcohol is too strong. On the palate, the first sip is a completely crazy mix of chili, kiwi, and mango. But the whole thing is rather untamed and not very rounded. On the second sip, the spice dominates the palate, but then that idiosyncratic chili-hot fruit flavor returns. Definitely worth a try, this bottling is very unique. Now I'm hungry, where's my wok? 🌶️🥭

A weird rum, nothing interesting on the nose and a lot of spices and alcool burn when you drink. This seems some strange spicy fruit chocolate both in the nose and when drinking it. The spicy and sweet combination do not work, it would have worked with a bit of acidity and freshness that is missing

Overall one of the best molasses based rum from Guadeloupe that I’ve tasted. Sample X a collaboration between Kintra and Rum Mercenary have released this molasses based rum produced by the Bonne Mère distillery, located in Sainte-Rose, Guadeloupe. Bonne Mère started as a sugar factory back in 1863, but since 1973 it’s just the distillery that’s still in operation. This 6 yo single cask rum has matured for 3 years in Guadeloupe, before being transferred to an ex-bourbon cask in Europe for 3 years more of continental aging before bottled brut de fût without cold filtration in 2021 in total of 242 bottles at 59,6%.

A truly beautiful bottling from Guadeloupe. Extremely complex for a 6-year-old rum. It loses a few points in the integration of the alcohol, but that's nitpicking. Stronger on the nose than on the palate. A great rum that I hadn't even considered.

Beautiful, young, wild bottling. The tropical storage is clearly noticeable. For the money, a great rum for advanced drinkers looking for an interesting change.Despite all the different flavor impressions incredibly smooth and oily on the palate. At the end it scratches unfortunately something, alcohol integration not optimal.Solid PLV

Nose first dry, spicy and citrus, then very mineral on the palate, fruity complex. On apricot I would not have come up by itself. But I'm still at the very beginning of my sensory ability.

Really exciting bottling! Complex rum with a nice mix of fruity and woody notes. Alcohol could be a little better integrated. For a six-year-old top!
Review by Rhum Mirror 🇧🇪
The nose is rather discreet, even slightly alcoholic. There are hints of citrus, wood and brown sugar. The palate is lively, with a herbaceous profile and hints of licorice and honey. The finish is medium-lightly woody. The whole is far too lively for my taste. It would have benefited from a reduction or a little more ageing to soften it. Unfortunately, this doesn't make me any more interested in this Bonne Mère distillery.

My first rum from Bonne mere and I was immediately drawn to molasses and not rhum agricole, you can tell straight away. A super exciting combination of tropical fruits and citrus marmalade, plus furry, sour and bitter kiwi and papaya, dark chocolate and lots of smoke. Very subtle chili and rose water on the finish. A wild aromatic combination, but I think it's great. Alcohol semi well integrated but easy to drink overall. Nice underdog bottling!
Review by Buddudharma
Relatively unbalanced, without a clearly recognizable profile, alcohol only moderately integrated.
Review by Ma_Lau
Alcoholic integration not optimal. Mouth well carried on the alcohol, spices and peppers. Medium finish on woody notes.

Very good fresh fruity pastry rum.
Review by Kasper
Very nice spirit punch with nice long taste, no offending ending. All round good but not anything that tickles me on a weekend night.
Review by Rowald Sweet Empire
Very broad flavoured and layered rum. Bit of everything here. Malt. Fruits. Coffee. Spices. Chocolate. Petrol. A bit dirty. Very nice. Will revised soon.
Review by Jakob
This has quite something - the bottling comes along fruity-spicy, joined by a charming sweetness. In the mouth, fresh spices and green notes finally announce themselves, but these also provide no imbalance. Interesting and quite independent profile thanks to the combination of fresh spices, sweetness and fresh fruit. Good!

I really liked the TCRL bottling, this one less so. I find that the rum lacks balance. The attack is a little too sharp. However, nice length.

A really lovely example of what a nice Guadeloupe can do. Very Floral and grassy nosing with some nice woody pineapple. This turns into some warm apricote and warm spice. a rather nice warm finish filled with spices. lacks complexity in the end. But still!
