Comparative series of old Clairins. The same as Casimir WHKCA1 except the cask. Slightly lower rated. Big differences due to the cask. The nose is quite aggressive with nail polish, acetone and alcohol. The palate is lively and ample but with limited depth. The finish is faint, too marked by smoke and whisky. Retasted and much less good, not balanced. Thanks Dr. Django for the sample.

Cross tasting aged Clairins: Le Rocher 27 months ex-whisky (RX4411) Casimir 27 months ex-whisky (RX12073) Casimir 27 months ex-whisky (RX12072) On the nose, clearly more cask influence than its Casimir counterpart. Sweet milk chocolate, vanilla, yellow stone fruit, but still a very fresh profile. The two Casimirs are quite similar, but they differ clearly from Le Rocher. On the palate, after the punch of Le Rocher, somewhat inconspicuous. Banana, yellow stone fruit, lemon and a mix of cardboard and woodiness. Much more approachable than the ugly twin Le Rocher. The alcohol hits quite strongly here. The two competitors do better! Conclusion: The messed-up Le Rocher is not something you can or want to drink often, but it's really the most exciting. I wouldn't finish a bottle alone. But now and then to really beat up the palate, very interesting. Behind it the other Clairin Casimir. Soon to follow: Vaval 22 months, Sajous 22 months, Sajous 5Y ex-Caroni.
