High-ester Hampden lovers are the crowd here. This 2009 DOK, 12 years in the cask, throws pineapple, mango and that unmistakable glue-and-solvent funk, but the long aging rounded it off — several tasters call it unusually "round and drinkable" for a DOK. At 58.2% the alcohol sits well integrated. Give it air and a drop of water; it opens up beautifully.

Most helpful positive review
Nose is very nice and intense. Lots of fruits and funk to begin with. After some time to breath, spices and some smokiness shows up. Very enjoyable yet demanding given the high ester level. High intensity on the palate as well: lots of fruits and ester notes. A bit of sweetness to balance the overall profile. Still quite lively while the cask took off the harshest edges.

Pineapple and a hint of smoke on the nose. On the palate, pineapple and a hint of smoke, accompanied by overripe fruit. The finish is long and rounded, with a creamy, almost oily edge. It's really good, despite the fact that I'm not a Jamaican fan.

Pineapple and mango on neat ester with a portion of glue. On the palate, especially candied pineapple and a mix of other tropical fruits lingers on the tongue. The finish funky and creamy leaves nice fruit notes and contains no trace of alcohol felt. Even though the finish is very long the rum doesn't quite kill the palate (like some other DOK). Although it is a "relatively long" aged DOK I don't really see a trace of wood. Against so many fruity esters tannins and Co. have just no chance.

Nice, easy-drinking DOK. Lots of tropical fruits, some honey and marzipan, bitter almonds and some mirabelle vinegar, as well as lime zest. For me personally, the wood influence is definitely too much here, the younger bottlings are more fun in my opinion. Definitely enjoyable, but the finish is also a bit astringent and sour and not as complex and intensely long-lasting as other DOKs and almost too round.😅 Also, I find 130€ for 0.5l of 100% continental aged DOK a bit much compared to other similar bottlings from the same vintage. However, anyone who hasn't been able to buy or try one yet is definitely well advised with this!👌

Exciting nose with the expected fruit esters and heavy sweet notes of caramel, vanilla, and pastry. On the palate still close to the expected DOK profile, the whole turns into tart fruit acidity, but in my eyes, a clear counterpoint in the form of heavy aromas is missing – be it pointed sweetness or wood influences.

Surprisingly round and accessible for a DOK. Is just the question of whether I want to see that nowpositive or negative. Had him in comparison to the CDI DOK 60%. In the end, I like the RC more. Valuations beyond the 90finde I very sporty, but I would also give very high 88, if there were not the price.129€ for 0.5 liters of a continental stored DOK is simply too much. But the market has jagezahlt it and thus spoken.In proportion I found there the TasTToe DOK 0.7Liter for 105€, Road Rummers DOK 0.7 liters for110€ and also the Samaroli Cask

Very good, round, delicious Hampden DOK (High Ester). Nose: Classic DOK with a bit impacts of the barrel. Palate: Classic DOK, Spicy Finish: Medium long, classic DOK Update 07.09.2024 - Blind DOK Tasting - 7th and last place. In direct comparsion to other DOK’s he can’t keep up!!

One of my favorite rums, Super fruity, pineapple, funky high ester. Addendum: This Dok is my absolute favorite, I was able to taste many Dok releases last year, but this one remains my number 1 especially compared directly with the 2009 vintage.

Tested against RX13772. He was probably destined to win from the start in this somewhat unequal duel. Apart from that, I have to say it's a real cracker. Fortunately, I was able to get hold of it at the original price. It's really great for the price.

On the nose, musty wood comes forward. The taste is accompanied by the musty wood. Otherwise typical Dok, not too intense. Mild and reserved.

This is a great release. Make sure to rest it for a good while to release all the flavours. I also tried to add a few drops of water and it also releases flavours or intensifies them. A rate bottle and I wasn't fast enough so I had to get a sample. The price is pretty good compared to what you get. The nose is intense with a nice degree if funk with fruits, ester and varnish and a bit of vanilla once rested. The palate is also intense and funky with wood, fruits, varnish and esters as well as some nuts. The finish is very long and warm with a bit of funk trailed by wood and fruits.

Bottle arrived today, could not help it, had to try right away. Stand fully on Maximum Ester 🤷🏼♂️Nose: wow, as expected intense, concentrated and funky; but the esters do not slay you. There's that fine glue, the intense tart lovely pineapple, the sweet lemon, some vinegar and the slight honey note behind it. Seems creamy and very round.Palate: very clear in its structure. Intense, funky, ester! UHU glue, pineapple, lemon, Back a pleasant sweet bitter note of lemon zest and/or bitter almond. Not at all taxing, rather very round.Still esters on the finish, slightly bitter, lovely lemon and getting a bit grassy.A really great, round DOK that is damn drinkable. Simply delicious!

Guys, this is exactly my taste of rum. Lots of esters on the nose, also glue and tropical fruits. Very funky. On the palate mostly esters again, also glue and tropical fruits like pineapple. Very tasty, hence the 9 before the comma. Exactly my thing ;-)

A powerful yet very elegant and flavorful Hampden DOK. The nose is intense, very funky (phenol, tropical fruit, citrus) with fermentary and pastry notes that make the product very pleasant. On the palate, the rum flexes its muscles and reveals what's underneath its beautiful color: wood, spices, funk, for a very drinkable, delicate and aromatic whole. The finish is long, a little bitter, warm and balanced. A very good rum, very homogeneous and harmonious, showing great versatility and aromatic variety for an extreme profile.

Tasted several times by now. Nice fruity, oily, extremely warm long finish with a bunch of esters. However, I don't warm up 100% to this drop. But it will certainly find its audience. By the way, makes a 1a Daiquiri :D

Surprisingly balanced for a DOK. The reduction is perfectly done, the alcohol superbly integrated. The aromas follow each other smoothly. It's a very good selection.

Very tasty and surprisingly accessible. I especially like a slight dough and/or pastry note with vanilla combined with almond or bitter almond, which I perceive both on the nose (more there) and on the palate.

I really like this Rum, shame I only had a sample. As expected the esters and aromas are all there and not hiding. But it is not overpowering, and really well balanced. As others wrote, age mellowed the power of the DOK, but this is not a bad thing here. Also, the Alcohol is very well integrated, not much of a burn there at all. Also, even it is not sweetened, it does have a sweet note to it, that i really like... A very well made rum indeed.

A DOK with a measured alcoholic strength to great effect! It has all the attributes of a DOK, with a bomb of esters, ripe fruit and "funkytude". But the low alcohol content makes it easier to grasp. Top.

Although this delivers a typical DOK bomb, this rum stands out through its polished accessibility. The result must almost be called easy-drinking, which is also due to the fact that the mouth is sustainably coated with esters, but the astringency fortunately remains within limits. Very tasty!

Not my favourite Hampden by any stretch despite the generally high scores often seen in the community. It has esters, some solvents, big funky fruit notes of banana and pineapple and rounded with a savoury buttery note. On the palate the best thing I can say about this is that the alcohol is so well integrated. That said, I find this ester bomb to have an unpleasant astringency on the back end and just lacks for something. That said it is full of ester and pineapple with some wood and smoke to round it out.

I've been looking forward to this. I smell tropical fruit in the aroma, and at the same time a pixel with glue. This is the bomb. On the tongue there is sweet pineapple at first, which is gradually complemented by other fruity flavours, but at the same time the expected glue. A long finish that is very velmk pleasing. Perfectly integrated alcohol.

On the nose: Esters, glue and tropical fruits with intensity, but ester level is still pleasant on the nose. Once this rum sits in the glass for a while, you set some pastry and citrus notes in there aswell. Taste: Esters, glue and tropical fruits. Some woody notes and nice marzipan notes that bring a little sweetness to the mix. Finish: Esters, roasted, pineapples and warm mouthfeel at first. Then you get woody notes and citrus notes like lime and lemons. Finishes dry. Long finish. I think this is nicely aged DOK mark rum where aging brings a good roundness and balance to the rum.

The nose is super funky with lots of esters, aged cheese, citrus, pineapple and some glue.On the palate the funky with esters lingers, there is some smoky/roasted notes, tropical fruits, citrus peel and a hint of sweetness makes up the background. Jesus, it's so beautifully tuned. Beautiful DOC, soft, estery yet not spicy, heaven forbid alcoholic. Here everything met as it should. Smooth overripe theopic fruit with a ton of sweet esters where I definitely wouldn't have guessed 58% on the first try. One of the top 5 Hapdens I've had.

Nice Jamaican in the high ester range. Pineapple, mango, esters, a bit of glue, plus almond/marzipan and some wood. At the same time buttery and sour, astringent. Delicious! A knockout for the release price.

Can a rum be both damn smooth and a really long-lasting flavor explosion at the same time? This one manages it 🤤 You have the typical DOK aromas of acetone-fermented pineapple-mango-orange-papaya, but then almost subtly supported by wood and some vanilla, creating a beautifully harmonious finish where all the aromas keep coming up again and again. In the nose, I even detect a hint of Amontillado sherry. This rum has what sets good red wine apart from... the rather normal – it not only has an outstanding aroma profile but also manages to present it in an incredibly elegant way. I was almost about to write off hmpdn as the always same (pricewise) overhyped pineapple and never thought I’d consider a rum in this age category a good investment when calculated per liter price. That was my first DOK and it probably won’t be the last, even though this stuff gives me a terrible headache.

Tasting in the Blender's Glass Nose: initially a lot of glue, salty and notes of sweat. Then after some standing time sweet honey notes and lots of pineapple come in. Mango joins and is complemented by pepper and BBQ chips. Palate: the alcohol is well integrated for over 60% and only stings briefly. What follows is a fruit explosion with lots of pineapple, mango, lemon and Fanta. Spicy notes and salt like in the nose come along. Finish: long and fruity, especially with pineapple, lemon and Fanta, and after some time a salty note comes in. Conclusion: Great rum with good value for money.

A great DOK but quite demanding in sense of time (the longer it’s breathing, the better it gets) and skills with your dropping glass. A few drops of water are doing a great deal - a few too much and everything is gone.
