Mount Gay Rum Artesanal Barbados Rum BMMG 2000
Reach for this if you already like Mount Gay and want it cask-strength and stripped of its usual roundness. Twenty-two years shows: wood leads, then orange peel, anise and caramel, with a distinct minty-eucalyptus streak running through the palate. It's spicy and a touch smoky, barely sweet, and runs hot at 56.5%. One taster called it "not your common rum," and that fits.

From community reviews · summarized with AI
Woody, minty cask-strength Mount Gay Most owners land around 8 — a characterful, well-aged Mount Gay they enjoy. A few find the wood and anise too dominant, and it doesn't hide its heat.

This is a nice rum especially at the price. The age is very present in the profile as the wood takes the front seat along some fruity and spice notes. Nice warm/spicy on the palate and I like the smoky wood it serves your palate and finish.

I just don't get along with the 2000 bmmg Mark. Alcohol absolutely not well integrated, sourly smoky and tobacco-heavy and much too woody. Sorry but this is for me a failure.

One where solvents, cedar wood and a pastry side are equal. Also yellow fruit and citrus. The palate is sweet and spicy, but also aromatic. Equally balanced between solvents, cedar and pastries. The finish is dominated by yellow fruit, va piquant, wood and orange zest.

Independent Mount Gay. Let's go. Nose: juniper. Yoghurt. Citrus. So there's a weird mix of acidic fruits and dairy going on. Whiff of smoke...very faint. Interesting. Not your common rum. The juniper/gin note is very much there Taste: so there a bit of smokiness here, from the cask?? Peppery/spicy. Some freshness. The dairy is gone though. Typical Mount Gay flavours with an edge. It's a weird one. Will retry soon. As for now...decent old rum.

Solid Mount Gay, which has a little too much anise for me personally. Reminds through the herbaceous mint something of Clarendon.
Review by Alexander Rasch
A very tasty, strong rum that is beautifully balanced when nosing. On the palate, the rum is intense with lots of spice, herbs and a very creamy structure. Compared to Rumclub BMMG, it is rather fruity and sweeter with beautiful roasted aromas. The Rumclub is smokier with more cask... I like the RC a touch better.
Review by Agricoler
Delicious Mount Gay with plenty of power from the barrel. Still clearly fruity on the nose. Nice smokiness in the taste and finish with a little honey and herbs as well as tobacco. All in all, a nice rum with a bit of variety.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Woody, smoky and herbal. On the palate also fruit. Intense Mount Gay.
Review by Carlitooo
Compared directly to Rumclub Ed 23, much weaker. It lacks some complexity and the honey aroma doesn't come through as nicely, unfortunately also slightly alcoholic in the finish.
Review by Christoph
A beautiful walk in the woods that leaves a dreamy furriness on the palate.
Review by Martin Spooner
Han has been looking forward to it for a while. Today is the day. The nose is relatively weak but caramelly. The palate is woody and spicy. A very unique taste. I would say caramel-menthol. Medium to strong finish.
Review by TheJackDrop
Mount Gay in a rather raw form, and much less round than usual. A beautiful nose between nutmeg, anise, well-integrated wood, and notes of oranges. A palate that heats a bit too much, and leaves a big trail of chili on the finish, which struggles to emerge.

🥃 Artisanal Rum - Mount Gay 2000 – 56.5% Heading back to Barbados with this 22-year-old Mount Gay: 6 years under tropical climate and 16 in Europe. Bottled straight from the cask, only 304 bottles in 50 cl. Nose: Intense and woody, orange peel, caramel and herbal touch. Palate: Balanced, woody and spicy, dried fruits. Finish: Long, complex, with tobacco and a slight menthol freshness. A nice rum, with a correct Q/P ratio for its age (~100 €), even if the wood dominates a bit too much for my taste.

I like it a lot! Goes in the direction of Clarendon
Review by PeterPapp
Just gave it a 78 earlier. However, the Mount Gay got tastier with every sip. So updating to 80.

The mint or eucalyptus is mega present! I really like it!

Very good MG.
Review by Tomas Hajlich
Typical barbados in the wine, not very pronounced but you can feel nice wood, tropical fruit to lemon rather...the taste is slightly strong but not unpleasant. Fresh taste and I would say really light menthol then wood and again citrus and a hint of tobacco. For me fine for the money
