C.A.D.C Rum Artesanal Venezuela Rum 2005

"Clearly not my style — this doesn't taste like rum," one taster wrote, and that captures the split here. Think wild herbs, menthol, licorice and cough-drop notes, with juniper and dark chocolate underneath. Several people reached for words like Ricola, Jägermeister and even mouthwash. A 17-year Venezuelan column-still rum at cask strength that drinks more like an herbal liqueur — polarizing on purpose.

Once again, the vegetable-herb note almost omnipresent in the Artesanal bottlings recently both in the nose and on the palate. the first association is therefore also somewhere between cough syrup and salmiakbonbon. It's unclear to me where this note comes from - in any case, the whole thing takes up so much space in the profile that the underlying rum is virtually drowned out. With a rather straightforward Spanish profile like the one from Venezuela, there is therefore not much left aromatically worth mentioning. Too bad.

7,5:On the nose, we are attacked with wild herbs, like Ricola candies, some mint, dark chocolate, some caramelized roasted nuts, coffee and wood, resin with dried currants, fruit compote and dried fruits. Aeration brings out some tobacco, licorice is still strong, underneath weak tropical fruits try to make some mark, but after some real rest, herbs go weaker, rum becomes more roasted, medicinal with smoke, perhaps even floral and woody. 7,5:On the palate, we have wild herbs mixed with chocolate, cocoa, licorice candy, resin, mint, bitter orange, some wood and peppery, juniper, dried currants, hints of dried fruits and metallic note, leather. All round and balanced. 7,6:The finish is dry, fresh, minty, spicy, quite long with some caramel, roasted notes, cocoa and coffee. Weird, but not bad at all... I like it. 👍

due to the previous reviews I was already prepared for some, but the rum is really really VERY special 😉 On the nose comes to me anise gingerbread, kumquat, herbal candy. On the palate just as strange, spontaneously I thought of Wick Medinait 😆In the finish juniper schnapps. Must not have more often...

Cough syrup, iodine ointment, double juniper, Ricola cough drops and Rotbäckchen Immunstark juice in liquid. Strong, sour, bitter and woody-resinous-mentholy... Somehow totally crazy and interesting somehow but also really borderline and unbelievable as this is rum from Venezuela should be? Absolutely strange product ... I would not have expected now so at all. Whether you like it or not, everyone must decide for themselves. Personally, I do not necessarily have to have this rum again in the glass ...

A sample I got, because it seemed interesting. Sometimes I should probably ask others, if they've tasted it. Very herbal in the nose. In the notes i find an almost medicin-like taste. Herbs and molasses in the end

"Déroutant. Clairement pas mon style, on ne dirait pas du rhum, mais ça n’est pas mauvais pour autant. Il faut aimé l’absinthe, le jagger, les plantes. Sympa mais pas dans la catégorie du rhum ! En resume, mes notes de degutation : Au nez : Herbacé, Anis, Menthol, Médicamenteux, Beurre En bouche : Herbacé, Médicamenteux, Genévrier, Anis, Réglisse, Menthol La finale plutot orientee vers : Fenouil, Anis"

I would not have expected such a flavor from a CADC. I find the rum incredibly exciting, but I personally would also not like to have a rum at home that is a mix of barrel-aged mojito and cough syrup. But this rum will certainly find its fans

Avg Rating 7.0/10 over 320 Rums

Venezuela is South America's great rum nation, home to Diplomatico and Santa Teresa, and to one of the strictest aging laws in the world: a minimum of two years, matched only by Cuba. Built from molasses and cane honey, distilled on pot stills and batch kettles, then aged long in solera systems, Venezuelan rum is soft, rich and dessert-like, sometimes openly sweetened, and made in a country whose economy has collapsed around it.
