Give this one 15-20 minutes in the glass and it opens right up: dried fruit, prunes, leather, tobacco and dark oak, with cherry and a touch of licorice underneath. Several tasters call it the most balanced of the 1994 REVs from The Rum Cask. At 53.5% the alcohol sits well, though the wood and a mild bitterness run deep — this is a slow, demanding sipper, not a casual pour.

Most balanced representation of the 94 REVs I tried so far. Good balance of wood, spices and dried fruits. Very nice bottling. For me clearly the best bottling from TRC, but also very much in my top group of 94 REV bottlings overall.

Edit: in the larger REV round, the winner for me personally today. Just discovered the rest of the Village'23 sample in the cupboard. I could freak out, I was offered to buy another bottle on the last day of the fair because they had found 2 bottles left. Unfortunately, I was already burnt out. Now I could... For me, this is the best Guyana I've ever had in a glass. Why didn't I keep track of it at the Village? This will be my new top seller.

Slightly better in direct comparison with the REV from Samaroli from the same year (RX11402), because less bitter and therefore subtly more pleasing on the nose and palate. The more than 3% higher alcohol content is not noticeable in the REV from TRC, which speaks for a good integration of the alcohol. I miss a bit the maltiness I appreciate so much. Conclusion: A very good REV, but it does not set new standards. Update 2024-10-12 REV-1994-Tasting Here is my ranking (impression on nose and palate each flowed 50% into the overall rating, in case of a tie the length of the finish decided, as happened with ranks 1-3, which were incredibly close): 1. RX12425 2. RX121 3. RX11107 4. RX21851 5. RX12203 6. 11402 Thus, this rum now ranks not before, but behind one of its direct successors. Remarkable! Beware, daily form should not be underestimated!

The Rum Cask has to prove itself today against the Greenheart 94 Enmore REV. On the nose the RC is a bit more reserved, although it has a higher ABV (53.5 vs 50.2). Otherwise it's really hard to find notable differences. The RC is maybe slightly more floral. On the palate both have a wonderful length, the RC is in the finish a notch more bitter, or with more barrel influence. Overall I have the Greenheart just ahead.

This one was the highlight of the evening. The nose was fruity with oak and cinnamon. Make sure to rest it for at least 15 minutes to release all the flavours. The palate is both intense, complex and very well balanced with oak, dried fruit anise and light licorice. The finish is long, warm and lightly dry with oak and cherries.

An excellent REV, but from the heavy dark side! Barrel impact and bitterness dominate!In my opinion, it does not come close to the RAAfter a fairly long time in the glass, it becomes significantly softer, but its basic character nleibt unchanged

Wonderful aromas on the nose, prune, leather, some citrus freshness, wood and tobacco. On the palate come tart notes of strong spice and bitter wood influences - but in addition, some sweetness resonates. The alcohol is also noticeable, some spiciness resonates. Not quite as balanced as the top representatives of the 1994 Enmores, but still excellent.

Very enjoyable. Fruity on the nose, however less so on palate, were touch more burnt notes are felt. I would rate it a notch lower than RA which I had on the side, still excellent though.

REV tasting of the Franconian Tasting Gang November 2024: A total of five REVs from 1994 were poured, the three bottlings from The Rum Cask, the Nobilis and Distilia Greenheart. At 27 years old, the youngest TRC still delivers the best performance for me, with very nice dry fruit notes on the nose. Its slightly older brothers are a little less fruity, but more spicy and toasty. The Nobilis has the most herbal notes of the five. The Distilia is also beautifully fruity on the nose, but quite sweet and a little thin on the palate.

I got to enjoy this rum on a perfect beach day in Thailand, together with a great H. Upmann Noellas. The rum hits massively on the nose, very powerful and complex - as its deep, dark color already suggests. Initially very heavy, it becomes milder and more charming over time, the barrel recedes and dark fruits, cherry and chocolate come to the forefront. When it actually gets too warm in the sun, it tastes almost like an old, oily port wine. Fantastic!

Simply awesome stuff, would recognize it blind anywhere as a 94er rev. Rusty notes of leather, coffee and plum and that in an intense way, like syrup, with a slight bitterness that I absolutely like. Apart from that, probably also due to the very pronounced main notes, I don't perceive particularly complex secondary aromas here. Alcohol is super integrated - counts for me among the top 94er revs.

A top 1994 REV from The Rum Cask. Very nicely balanced. Alcohol is perfectly integrated and it brings a bit less sweetness than other 1994s. Also fruity, wood, spices, and herbs. Long finish.

Oooo - what a pity this one is a little bit watery. It has an amazing profile but ... Enmore - drive distillery, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have a flavor of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excites lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique very expressive and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.

Tobacco and mint are the first to enter the nose, followed by musty wood. In the mouth it is surprisingly mild but with clear herbal notes and a lovely long spicy phase. Herbs can also be heard in the finish. Beautiful rum, very mild and super integrated alcohol, but you have to be prepared for the dominant herbal notes. Especially at this price.

Small REV tasting. All tasted rums have a very dark color due to their high age. RX12203: 9.0 Nose: Dried fruits, not too dry but rather fruity. Also slight lovage and a nice heavy spice. Palate: Some noble wood, nice spice, dried fruits with heavy sweetness. The finish leaves some wood and leather. Really a beautiful drop. RX17202: 9.0 Nose: Slightly more subtle than RX12203. Heavy sweetness and spice. Palate: Also on the palate more wood and spice than RX12203, slightly bitter, the tannins are more present here. In the finish, this beautiful woody-spicy slight bitterness comes to the forefront. At the very end, I find some chestnuts. RX21851: 9.0 Nose: Again more sweetness and fruitiness compared to RX17202. Palate: Here only a subtle fruitiness, the tannins are now even more pronounced but not disturbing. I find slightly burnt caramel. The finish leaves a not unpleasant bitterness and at the very end noble wood. RX25870: 9.1 Nose: Subtle. Light, heavy sweetness. Palate: Wow, really full and directly present. Fruitiness, tannins, spice, burnt caramel, slight bitterness all perceptible side by side and all very harmonious. Only the alcohol is slightly more present than in the other TRCs, but not disturbing. Also very round and balanced in the finish. The oldest TRC REV is for me also the best. RX12425: 9.1 Nose: Quite red-fruity, not too dry. So far the most fruity nose. Palate: Wow, really great and full aroma. Red fruitiness, not too dry, dominates. Tannins and a slight bitterness. Black tea and slightly burnt caramel. Also very round in the finish. Distilia Enmore REV 60.2% (no RX number) 9.1 Nose: Very round with fruit and spices. Palate: Full, direct, intense. Fruit, spices, tannins and wood rather subtle. Endless finish. Awesome stuff.

Insane volume, warm, fruity cinnamon on the nose. Nicely oily, complex, wood but not too dominant, nicely warm and complex on the palate. Dried fruits. Very round, alcohol super integrated. A real treat. Definitely one of my favorites so far.

Herbs, woods, leather, tobacco, wood and wood, bitterness still in a bearable range. Demanding and challenging, not a daily sipper or just anytime drink. Good stuff that would be even better if it had spent a few years less in the barrel.
