The Nectar Hampden The Nectar Of The Daily Drams <>H 2013
Pineapple, nail polish and ripe tropical fruit on the nose, with a creamy oily film in the glass and olive, lemon and spice on the palate. Classic Hampden <>H DNA at 9 years and cask strength. The recurring catch: the alcohol is hot and not fully integrated, so several tasters felt it stayed a bit alcoholic and held back next to its siblings.
- Tropical fruit
- Clear ester funk
- Oily texture

How does The Nectar Hampden The Nectar Of The Daily Drams <>H 2013 taste?
Aggregated from 42 community reviews.
Fruity, funky Hampden held back by heat A characteristic, fruity Hampden with real ester funk — but most agree the 64.4% heat dominates and isn't quite integrated. Good once you give it air; not the most balanced <>H around.

The <>H has a nose dedicated to those who love the characteristic and bewitching notes of High Esters (varnish-solvent). Baklava is in the nose with its almonds, honey ... and fruity on banana, orange, pineapple. The nose is quite crazy but a little wiser than its big brothers the HGML and C<>H. The mouth on the other hand is not as greedy as expected but perfectly balanced. We have notes of solvents, varnish, spices of overripe fruits. Of the Jamaican High Ester in fact! We have a beautiful length in mouth on spices and leather. OK, it lacks the exuberance and sweet heaviness of some of its older brothers. This makes it a little less complex. But for the price, it does the job very well and allows everyone to discover this adored Mark.

Now we're getting somewhere. This one was far better than the previous one. Not super funky, but you can pick up the ester. Nicely fruity with light vanilla and wood.

Strong, great nose. On the palate, the alcohol overwhelms. Definitely needs time.

A rather characteristic Hampden. Nose of ripe fruit and solvent or glue. Pineapple. You want to go for it. Warm and intense from the start. Always fruit. Spicy. Very present alcohol. Finishes with a fruity brine that lingers on the palate. Needs better integration of alcohol. But very good.

In the first nose I detected a smell of grapes similar to a good brandy. Then it becomes fruity and the esters notes come out clearly. A nice oil film forms in the glass. In the mouth it becomes slightly funky accompanied by tropical fruits. In the aftertaste I have a slight bitter barrel flavor, but very subtle and pleasant.

Strong rum and moderately integrated alcohol: it's a bit of a mouthful. Requires good oxidation. The bottom of the bottle will certainly be the best... Unsurprising nose and palate for a Hampden: solvents, ripe tropical fruit. On the palate, there's a hint of olive, lemon and pepper. On the finish, there's a hint of wood. Once the brutality of the rum has passed, it remains good.

Solid Hampden, in the Daiquiri certainly well kept, but at this price the sample is enough for me.

It is quite pleasant on the nose with fruity notes and a slight ester. The palate is not quite convincing, but it still fits! All in all, okay

I don’t particular like the nose - even after a long time in the Glas it is dominated by alcohol (or maybe nail polish if you are looking on the bright side) clearly oveewhelming any fruity notes. It is much better on the palate. However, here very much dominated by vanilla and sweetness I attribute to the cask. No Highlight unfortunately. Disclaimer: tasted alongside RX12016 which clearly didn’t help this one to shine (and is way better imo)

Solid Hampden, the DNA is clearly recognizable. In comparison, however, the alcohol is too present for me, which dominates the smell. Nevertheless, a nice, albeit thin, pineapple note comes through. The finish is a little pungent. Overall, it is good but comparatively restrained and therefore, apart from the stronger alcoholic note, no more than that.
