Not you MMW, and you might expect a fruit-and-glue Jamaican bomb — instead the heavy continental ageing pushes it toward Demerara territory. Several tasters flag "pencil shavings" and a metallic, mineral edge alongside peach, melon and mango. There's roasted oak, marzipan and a dry, tannic finish. The 62% isn't always cleanly integrated, and opinions split hard between "Versailles-like" charm and drinkers who just don't warm to the graphite.

8,4:On the nose, the mark of the barrel is strong, we have roasted wood notes with nuts, marzipan, malt notes, spices like pepper and medicinal touch with glue and esters.The fruits are tropical with mango and pineapple... On aeration, peaches and strong melon arise, with orange peel and lime, flowery tones, some pastry, dark chocolate and clove. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is actually tasty with roasted wood notes, especially roasted nuts, caramel, chocolate, spices like pepper, ginger and some salt, strong pencil shavings and fruits like melon, peaches, pineapple and very strong litchi with herbaceous molasses, later grassy.Mango and citrus pop out after resting the rum, coppery patina and pastry 8,3:The finish is long, dry and tannic, slightly smoky, with most of the palate notes lingering on...l

Blindly, I would have almost placed it towards a continental-aged Uitvlugt because of the pencil notes that I unfortunately don't like at all... You can generally taste (and see) here that most of the aging must have been continental, which unfortunately also deducts quite a bit from the quality. The alcohol could be better integrated, I don't find it particularly complex and pleasant to drink... But it just doesn't suit my taste at all.

#6052 10.12.2025 Time to run a few samples after my Old St. Croix Christmas Calendar and another sweet rum behind door number 9. Nose Fresh, medium intense, light wood, light honey, pineapple, light vanilla, light eathy, light dried fruit. Palate Oily, light wood, faint roasted, light caramel, banana, light peppery, light tea, vanilla, light citrus. Finish Long and warm, light wood, peppery, oily, fruity, naturally sweet, light orange. Empty glass Light caramel, banana, light citrus, light honey, faint ginger. Needs to rest for a good while to really open up properly.

In my opinion, there are clearly better Clarendon MMWs. The alcohol could be better integrated here. Very subtle fruit note. Slight creaminess on the palate. Some herbs and wood. I had hoped for more.

I agree with Johannes - there really is a Versailles feeling here. In addition to the obligatory tropical fruit with lots of peach and mango, there is also wood and spices here, but in a pleasantly balanced form. There are also the aforementioned mineral notes, reminiscent of the typical VSG pencil shavings from Demerara. Exciting profile with its own character. Beautiful selection.

Nose of pineapple and peach, quite light. On the palate, the sharpness of an alcohol not very well integrated, a bit of fruit, peach in the lead. Also a metallic and pencil side, which makes me think of a dying port. Doesn't give me much pleasure. Way too expensive for what it is.
