Almost nobody guesses this is a 3-year-old from Taiwan — blind, most people call it a Savanna Grand Arôme. The heavily charred virgin oak (Char 4, the "alligator skin") does huge work: fermented strawberry, papaya, tobacco, vanilla and a slightly synthetic candy note over roasted, spicy wood. At 64.8% the alcohol is impressively well integrated, but it drinks intense and wants your full attention.

Tested as part of the RumX Advent calendar and almost certainly mistaken for a Savanna Grand Arôme ... and much older. The Alligator Char really does seem like a time machine. For me, it really is a sensational rum ... I will definitely keep my eyes open for an (affordable) bottle. Had it in the glass again yesterday ... still wow. Thanks to Jarek for the sample. Update: Back in the glass ... thanks Jarek for the bottle.

Very interesting and intense on the nose. This one feels way older than it says on the tin - obviously the cask did quite some work. Honey and sweet caramel on the nose alongside fermented fruits akin (if any) to Savanna GAs. Very nice. Similar on the palate: quite some funk with lots of fermented tropical fruits and rich notes of vanilla and honey. Again, feels way older than it is. Nice one.

I treated myself to a sample of this rum out of pure curiosity (thanks to Artur)!And am positively surprised!An extremely complex nose with fruity-artificial and spicy-roasty aromas!This continues unabated on the palate. Towards the back it becomes slightly bitter. So he also changes in the finish..a while later comes out again fruit!A very successful and complex rum, but requires a lot of attention!Today from the RumX calendar for the 2.th time in the glass...I am still very taken: it is very complex, intense and delicious!

9:On the nose, the first impression we get are smoky, fermented fruits like strawberries, on esters, as a molasses is vegetal with tobacco, hay, tea and a bit flowery and on honey steroids.We certainly notice roasted wood with faint caramel, spicy with vanilla and cardamom.There is an orange and an unripe banana. On aeration, some dried fruits arise, strawberries become overripe, maybe rotten, we notice some confectionery, nuts, saffran, as the molasses is a bit minty. 8,7:On the palate, the attack is fruity with strawberries, pineapple, papaya, bitter orange, as strawberries quickly become almost rotten.The molasses is vegetal with an olive, waxy, earthy, honeyed, as the wood is smoky with roasted notes like nuts, faint caramel, burnt sugar, spicy with vanilla and cardamom.After resting, the molasses is a bit flowery, herbaceous, darker with a licorice, there is some tea, as the wood is a bit resinous, tannic...and some salt pops up out of nowhere. 8,9:The finish is more balanced, dry, long with palate notes continuing the ride without a bit unpleasant rotten note, rounded with confectionery notes...

A real surprise! On the nose, memories of a Savanna Grand Arôme. On the palate then a great, dense, creamy composition of tropical fruits, olives, nice spice and pleasant sweetness. The alcohol is very well integrated.Great how much complexity this rum with only 3 years can spell!

#4031 Another great cask from Renaissance. Fruity and naturally sweet with an oily and spice/warm palate. There are some nice herbal notes in there as well. Draws very nice and thick curtains and the empty glass has some licorice and coffee notes.

In terms of transparency probably unsurpassed, it almost slays what there is everything noted on the label: 15 days fermentation with Dunder, double distillation in Charentais Pott Still (15 h 7h), 3 years tropically matured in new ISC American White Oak barrel, maximum burned out stage 4 (which leads to the 'alligator skin'). On the nose I feel strongly reminded of Savanna Grand Arome, fermented (red) fruits, tobacco, vanilla. Similar on the palate. The extreme production process results in a super intense rum here with only 3 years of aging! Gladly more of it 😃

Could go through blind on the nose as Savanna grand Arome almost already. Taste extremely intense saffron, jackfruit, papaya and other overripe almost already fermented fruits, light roast aromas like when you roast anise cinnamon cardamom etc and a very strange but not necessarily negative light acidity.... Super freaky stuff! Meets but only conditionally my taste but exciting my first rum from Taiwan hereby probiet to have, thanks to Artur for that!

Very versatile rum: nose reminiscent of Fiji or Jamaica with lots of fruit and ester.On the palate more like a 91 Enmore KFM with licorice. However, not quite as round, the alcohol already bites. A nice new experience!

A 3 years old Taiwanese rum with such an aromatic complexity, it is exceptional! The nose is extraordinary with tropical fruits, strawberry, marmalade, mirabelle plum, papaya, esters, fermented and synthetic notes, woody, spicy, smoky, almonds, sugar, tobacco and floral notes that form an incredible aromatic bouquet. The palate is dreamy, the alcohol is superbly well integrated, with acidic cherry, mango, citrus, pineapple and olive notes that enrich the profile already described. The finish is very long, with notes of espresso, licorice and a slight bitterness. A rum of great class, a real slap. In short: may China leave Taiwan as a free country!

A real exotic and for me something very special. What a backlabel! Not to be outdone in terms of info and transparency. The rum promises to have everything I want in rum: 15 days fermentation with wild yeasts and Dunder! Tropical aging and a special first fill barrel that has the strongest burnout: Char 4, Alligator. Let's see...Nose: Ohlala, very complex, artificial-fruity-sweet, reminiscent of Savanna. Mixture of fermented papaya, strawberry gum, peach and kumquat. In addition, creamy taffy and fruit vinegar. Behind slightly woody, with vanilla and tobacco. Really interesting, but you have to like.The nose continues on the palate: artificial fruity (Savanna), papaya pineapple strawberry kumquat. Sweetness of jelly beans or candied lemon peel. In addition, slightly sesameTop !

First half of the sample, and I am not able to make my mind up regarding this rum. Tasty, different, interesting are the first thoughts. Definitely very dark and lots of wood influence for only 3 years. Let's have a second go later! After the second try I I think this one is too raw for me, I had trouble getting all notes to my tongue due to the burn, and some acidicy. I am also a bit sad I had not a bigger sample, to try with water or giving even longer breathing time, because in the end of my tasting session I finally got a mouthful of great flavours.

RumX Advent Calendar December 3:What a rum! Strawberry dominated rum pot on the nose and some eucalyptus, with time it becomes more like chamomile. Manuka honey like sweetness. Could also have been a Savanna.In the mouth a bit spicier, super tasty and with a great mouthfeel.

Surprisingly tasty. In the finish at the very end a fruity note that I can not believe - delicious, but does not seem quite natural. Addendum: have only now looked at the other reviews. Funny that others also found the note artificial. Grand Arome I also had in mind.

Fresh tropical fruits and esters on the nose, balanced with vegetal notes and lime. A controlled volatility that brings liveliness, counterbalancing the old varnished wood. The entry on the palate is quite soft with a mix of Savanna (bubble gum and strawberry) and Guyana (old varnished wood, leather, prunes). The palate is very evolving, with Savanna aromas first, then Guyana, then Savanna again. The finish is very long, leaning more towards the Savanna side with a Guyana note that lingers for a long time.

It's so delicious that you wouldn't believe it's aged for 3 years! It starts with Hampden and finishes with Monymusk. The nose has a bit of alcohol buzz and the paint varnish of Smith & Cross or Pagos. It's a classic Jamaican note with aged tropical fruit aromas. The taste is really different! It's intense and spicy, smoky, and dry. When you hold it in your mouth, it becomes sweet like honey-soaked melon and peach. Adding a little water makes the tropical fruit even more intense. After drinking, there's a clean hint of tannin and leather in the mouth. I'm sad I couldn't get a bottle.

Crazy nose that I couldn't assign to any distillery. Stands out clearly. Maybe most comparable to Savanna High Ester/Grand Arome. The nose definitely makes you want more. Also incomparable on the palate. I've never had such a strong papaya aroma in any other rum. Here somehow a mix of Agricole and Savanna HERR. But somehow also different again. In the finish, the cask really comes through. Alcohol is very well integrated. Great rum! Too bad the releases are so expensive. I guess if it cost around €120, the bottles would find buyers very quickly.

Nice! From the nose I would have guessed something low to mid estery with px finish. But no – it rested in virgin oak casks and that only for 3 years. Crazy. That means the fruityness must come from the destillate. The taste continues the theme of the nose. Finish is medium long. Very nice pick/find(?) by RomDeLuxe! Only downside: the price. At ~120€ I would have gotten a bottle.

RumX Advent calendar 2022: in a blind tasting I would probably have guessed a Savanna GA. Awesome strawberry and papaya notes paired with roasted aromas, wood, esters and spices. Alcohol very well integrated.

RumXmas 2022 #3, blind: I have a bit of a cold going on at the moment, so I can’t trust my nose. A lot of tips towards Savanna, but not that much experience with those rums in my glass. So I can’t relate. I’m leaning towards Saint Lucia. It reminds me a bit of the Plantation St Lucia bottled for 15 years The Nectar for some reason. Maybe the Chairman’s reserve Master’s selection (GotA & RumX)? Whatever it is, I like it! Did not see this coming, amazing rum given it’s young age!

Blind I would never have guessed this. The rum is only about three years old, hard to believe the heavily charred cask has shown its effect here. On the nose still fruity-aromatic and esters, on the palate very roasty and spicy. Nice saffron note, I feel more in the Orient than in Taiwan. In the finish unfortunately a bit too bitter for me and it is somewhat short. But the rum is three years old, what can you say. More of this please😋

First of all, thanks to the donor Serge, who already had the bottle at DomM last time. Now it's finally empty with me. The rest was sunk in a Daiquiri. Intense taste experience that leans towards Savanna Grand Arome. But unfortunately, the flavor profile is not quite my thing.

Wow, great first impression on the nose with roasted salty almonds and fruit basket. On the palate honey with barrel and again fruit. Slightly smoky notes in the finish which are then rounded off by acidity. Very nice complex thing.

Oh yes, that's not the usual stuff! Once again an exotic one, and not just exotic but really fun! On the nose, a fruity breeze blows at me, with its artificial notes of plastic or medicinal substances reminding me of Long Pond or Fiji. On the palate, the power of the alcohol surprises me, which is quite intense but also delivers real aromas and is therefore really exciting once you tame the alcohol. Here, spicy and woody aromas come to the fore, which I did not suspect on the nose and would not have expected in a rum only 3 years old. Great what this almost unknown distillery can deliver! I'm looking forward to much more coming from there. The wild fermentation alone makes you want more!

Many thanks to Johannes who let me try this during a nice evening at RumDepot. The flavor profile is very special and I could find no comparison. The 65% alcohol was not disturbing but ensured an explosion of aromas in the mouth. Spicy, roasted, fruity, sweet!

first of all, thanks to FTG for this sample. A very special and unique rum. Some strange and weird notes on the nose, yellow fruits but some rotten fruits and rotten gras (a bit like your composted gras in the garden). Very different from all other rums I have tasted. On the palate the same yello fruits, a herbal taste, rancid butter. But not in a bad way, but a bit weird. Special.

Pretty complex, was surprised how good this was as I knew nothing about this distillery. Smells comes on with banana and plum. Maybe some peach skin, passion fruit. Plenty of potpourri perfume in the mouth, and a little more plum. Lots of potpourri on the end, with some pepper and oak. Pours dark amber.

Interesting what Renaissance Distillery puts in the bottle here after only 3 years. If you like serious barrel power, you’ll get your money’s worth here. The extreme toasting of the barrels makes the rum seem very mature and deep and less young. In the glass, you immediately get a good portion of fermented fruit and tobacco. The whole is accompanied by a heavy leather note that fits perfectly with the massive body. The 64.8% don’t just hit you, but carry the aromas really well. Thanks to the special dunder fermentation, the rum also achieves a good balance so it doesn’t get overwhelmed by the strong oak.

Advent calendar #3, convinced of a Jamaican, maybe young Hampden. Very vigorous, they share esters and the funky side. A very nice discovery this distillery! Very good for its young age!
