8,1:On the nose, the first impression is strongly roasted, sugar burnt, melted into the caramel, as nuts, the caramel is thick, spiced up with an orange peel, we get some nice dark fruits with blackcurrant and grape, as we feel tannins and a very toasty wood, a bit dry. All the spices are also sweet and roasted, adding value to woodiness. The wood is nicely toasted with a touch of vanilla, a hint of sweetness and a whiff of perfume. Aeration doesn't change the rum's profile, as it stays dark with now coffee, the wood becomes charred and a bit medicinal. Some lighter notes as confectionery crawl in, there are tasty caramelized walnuts and molasses, generally the nuts are roasted, with a hint of nougat, cocoa comes out after nice rest. 8:On the palate, the attack is soft and roasted with some chocolate, the molasses is dark, caramelized with maple syrup. There is also some sweet spiciness, as the nuts are mellow, creamy. The rum is quite tasty, a bit medicinal, dry with tannins and toasted wood. 8:The finish is dark, spicy, with tannins and caramelized nuts and maple syrup, woody and dried fruits.

A rum with a nose of almost burnt caramel, vanilla and old leather and light coffee. A soft mouthfeel, then the flavors appear, leather again, milk chocolate and a salty side with an interesting bitterness that holds it all together. The finish is rather short, on bitterness and caramel. I'm a little disappointed, but it's undeniably well done. Yet the whole lacks complexity. The empty glass, perhaps due to the absence of sugar, adds a little depth.

Even the younger brothers of the Centenario series pleased me and this one doesn't disappoint either. Although here the price/performance ratio is certainly worse due to the high price. On the nose leather, caramel and chocolate. It is toastier and woodier than the younger ones. But the finish is a bit too bitter for me.

Woodier and toastier than the Centenario 20y and 25y, but less fruity. In the mouth super mild and pleasing, because super sweet. The actually delicious flavor profile (fruit, caramel, toasty chocolate, vanilla and some wood) and any edges are covered by the sweetness and totally rounded. Price: way too expensive. There are hundreds of better rums in this segment! The 25y pleases better.

For sweet tooth lovers, Rancio, toffee, honey, is remarkable and integrated well with oak, finish with fresh sugar cane sweetness and brown sugar. This the one that drags me to rum world, emptied 2 bottles over the past years, good old days, too sweat for me now.

Last but not least comes the flagship from Centenario. On the nose, again clear notes of vanilla and caramel. Plus creamy toffee, baking spices, and pastries. In taste, unbelievably soft and gentle, so you don't notice the alcohol. Aromatically vanilla, caramel, chili, and woody notes. I expected a lot more and am downright disappointed. In conclusion, I would say that the 25-year-old is the best of the evening (9, 12, 20, 25, and 30-year-olds were tasted).

Tried at The Village fair 2026. I had hoped for more, unfortunately extremely sweet with lots of vanilla and caramel. You hardly notice the alcohol. It's pretty much overlaid with sugar. For the performance, I find the price too high.

Spanish style. But more body and heavier than an easy sipper. Not a gustatory revelation, but tastier than I remembered. Definitely more relaxing as an Old Fashioned! I tried the first sip a year ago and was disappointed back then, looking for the 'awakening event.' Now I'm happy to have it, but I won't buy another.

Nose: Typical aroma of a well-aged rum. Raisin and caramel nuances make up most of the share. Right after opening, alcohol buzz is low, but the aroma is also weak, somewhat boring. A fleeting peppermint sharpness and tropical fruit scent are also felt. A common sweetened rum aroma with nothing special. Balance is not bad. Taste: Sweetness is well expressed without artificiality. There is a powdery note, making it slightly dry. Simple but clean notes of leather and raisin. Despite the thick texture, the body is not very full. Finish: Goes down quite dry. No unpleasant feeling of syrup coating the throat when drinking sweetened rum. The finish is short, but when you smack your lips once in a while, a pleasant vanilla aftertaste remains.

Advent calendar for my brother 2025. Besides the usual sweetness typical for this type of rums, the nose features notes of coffee roast and walnuts. The taste is a sweet classic.

Way better than the 25, a bit worse than the 20. On the nose, soft, round, and the classic notes you expect from a Centenario. On the palate, lots of spice, wood, fruit, chocolate, smooth and sweet. In the finish, I especially like a slight orange note. My conclusion: A great sipper for a relaxed evening. If you’re looking for a sensory white-water ride, this is not it — this rum is more classic and understated, but crafted really well. Thumbs up from me 🙂👍
