Made for people already deep into high-ester Hampden: this 1993 C<>H throws pineapple, ester and varnish out of the glass, with marzipan, olive brine and fermented fruit underneath. Most call it a lovely, drying, funky old Hampden — but several who chase the legendary '93 vintage felt it didn't quite floor them. Give it 30-45 minutes to open; the alcohol integrates well after air.

Sorry for the rating but it's really not my cup of tea... after another tasting it's just undrinkable, the varnish is omnipresent on the nose (nothing really titillating for me) and on the palate it's just undrinkable. It's a personal opinion but I can't do that... very surprised that it's rated 88... for 385 euros there's a lot better... really better...

I let the rum breathe for an hour before tasting. Had promised me much more on the nose and am therefore disappointed. No comparison to the Nobilis 93. Taste definitely a board and a good rum, BUT from a HD 93 I just expect that he knocks me down. For the equivalent of 392 € on 0.7 liters, we are also sporty in price. I like the finish best. All in all, you have a lot of fun with the rum, but for the money and the legendary vintage 1993 for me a disappointment. Nevertheless, I award a good 88 points.

Nose: the pineapple and esters jump out at me from the glass! I'm immediately reminded of the rum flavoring my mother used to bake from little bottles. This is definitely a definite step up from the Hampden Great House bottlings! Then overwhelming on the palate with pineapple and the other typical markers of Hampden Distillery. All very finely nuanced. The alcohol is present with the right strength.In the medium to long finish, the (rancid) butter comes through again 😁 The crass notes of rum fade quite quickly and a dull note that is difficult to describe remains for a long time.I unfortunately have no reference for the 1993 Hampden, supposedly there are even better bottlings. For me, however, it is already in the range of "excellent"

Oh yes, a nice, intense, funky HD. I like.Nose: esters and vinegar. Very clear. Clearly fermented and vinegar. Pineapple marzipan almond. That actually describes it quite well. This floral honey sweetness also comes from the fermented pineapple.Palate: wow, fine esters, clearly astringent, sweet and sour gooseberry and pineapple, pineapple, pineapple! Sweet almond paste - or marzipan. At the back comes very light licorice.Just delicious. I'm really into high Ester Hampden. And the age suits him excellently, even if in HD the age brings only subtle nuances from my point of view.

Ester bomb! Perhaps a tad less expressive than the rum from the sister barrel 260 (RX11189), but still a very thick board. And hey, at what level are we moving here! 😉 In any case, I thought at first I had a DOK in the glass, so astringent was the rum at the tasting. Hard to imagine that the 168 bottles of this 'crass rum" (O-Ton Whiskytrinker) will not be sold out immediately. So I can only recommend it.

#4487 03-04.11.2023 Den Danske Whiskyfestival. Again a special meet up besides the event itself because we think it's a bit too dull. Had a great time with friends again. My notes. Nose: fresh, light wood, ester, pineapple, varnish, light marzipan. Palate: light wood, natural sweetness, pineapple, marzipan, ester. Finish: long and warm with fruits and vegetal notes. Empty glass has very light glue notes.

That scent, I love it when it fills the room! There's nothing like a good Hampden, especially when it has this maturity. For me, it exactly meets the expectations I had, even if other 1993s might be a bit more balanced in nuances! It has everything that makes it rated excellent: esters, fermented baked pineapple, marzipan, a bit of sharpness and that intensity that fascinates me again and again.

This rum impresses with a complex bouquet of ripe tropical fruits, spicy notes and a hint of oak. On the palate it unfolds an intense, harmonious play of sweetness and spice. A great aged Hampden and a really great rum! Thanks to skyfly!

Oh man, what can I say, a really awesome Hampden here. Lots of esters and tropical fruits like pineapple on the nose. On the palate the same, also very astringent and tastes like polish. Rum of the day :)

An ester bomb that instantly fills the whole room with aroma when poured. On the nose immediately pineapple, esters, and glue. On the palate, the first striking pineapple, which seems to have the same progression as if I bit into it. The finish is medium-long and not as amazing. I have to get another representative from the 93 vintage. They say they're better. Currently 89 points.

The nose is intense and complex and delivers everything you expect from a C<>H. On the palate really nicely intense and also slightly astringent. Vanilla and spicy notes are present, plus tropical fruits and a slight marzipan note.

A great Hampden. It exudes an intense smell of pineapple, cookie dough, fermented fruits and raisins. A typical funky nose. Very smooth and round in taste with perfectly integrated alcohol. Marzipan, marzipan, lots of banana and a fermented fruit basket stand out especially in flavor. As a contrast, you can taste a slight olive and something salty. The finish is surprisingly short for the alcohol content, but still sustainably warm. For me a really great rum that exactly hits my taste.

I'm not objective because I love HD so much 😍 So I'll just say it's excellent even though you feel a bit of alcohol (after 15 mins) but it's much better integrated after 45 mins. Very fruity, on pineapple and tropical fruits, a hint of olive, I love it 😍😍😍

Ester, ester and ester - on closer inspection pineapple, tropical fruits and varnish come in. The long aging has really done the rum good; alcohol very well integrated. I'm now curious about more HD93.

Definitely Hampden. Unfortunately, I have no direct comparison to other 1993s. All typical components are there, but somehow slightly restrained for me. You hardly notice the alcohol.

In all rums from this distillery you feel wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruit - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums that is a "must try before you die"

What a noble distillate. It really needs its time in the glass, at first test it was really prickly, but after about half an hour, perfect. This High Ester Hampden nose is already magnificent, I can't compare it to other 93s, for me this one is enough to excite me. Amazingly sweet on the palate, with the known pineapple note, marzipan and fine spice. What amazes me about these old Hampdens is they have almost no wood aromas that make the rum bitter, like with various Guyanas. Thanks for this great sample.😘

Ivan not so sure if I would have guessed this as a Hampden in a blind tasting. For sure, it’s a lovely one, but not that funky, more wood driven and toasted, deep and heavy.

what a rum! Less fruity and funky as I have expected, but it surprises with complex herbal notes. There is more fruits on the nose but on the palate, herbal and floral notes dominate. I realized a nice sweetness and a vinegar note that balances out perfectly with the herbal and fruity notes.

Very nice aged Hampden with the typical notes of tropical fruits and esters. The wood from the long aging is noticeable but harmonizes well with the fruit notes. The alcohol is well integrated and the long finish is also pleasing.

Prickly Hampden pineapple esters on the nose. Strong varnish smell which dissipates and becomes jammier, stewed fruit. Savoury element I can’t put a name to. Maybe olives? Very cooling in the nostrils, maybe a bit of pool chemical. Does not smell it’s age. Drying and with some wood on the palate, but with typical Hampden sour fruity flavour. Again prickly, with a more savoury aftertaste. Good, but as my first taste of a hyped vintage I maybe expected more? Reminds me most of an older version of great house 22, despite difference in marques.

Unfortunately, this Hampden disappointed my expectations. The nose is really fruity and funky....as expected. But it is very astringent, almost undrinkable. Even a few drops of water don't make it any better.
