Excellent stuff - top notch bottling of the 94 REVs vintage imho. Delivers on dark, woody, herbal and fruity notes on the nose as well as on the palate. My only critic here is the relatively low proof, which manifests in a bit less power on the palate versus other bottlings.

Great cinema. Prune meets a full load of leather. Plus licorice and green tobacco notes, but also toasty wood and mineral notes that briefly remind the palate of the typical Versailles pencil shavings. In the finish, long-lasting, gentle bitterness from the leather, spice and wood flavors, which are given an almost aesthetic counterpoint by the dried fruit - because the often present heavy sweetness of the dried fruit flavors remains gallantly restrained here at first, before it takes its due space again in the finish. Even among the now numerous 1994 REVs a successful addition at the top of the spectrum.

REV-1994-Tasting on 12.10.2024 Here is my ranking (nose and palate impressions were each given a 50% weighting in the overall rating, in the event of a tie the length of the finish was decisive, as was the case with ranks 1-3, which were incredibly close together): 1ST RX12425 2ND RX121 3. RX11107 4. RX21851 5. RX12203 6. 11402 Attention, daily form should not be underestimated!

Insane release!!! Leather, plum, wood, and floral notes, very nicely balanced. For me, one of the better 1994 releases, although that vintage is generally insanely good and balanced.

Update: After a long time, finally back in the glass and added a photo. Still a knockout. For me, the tastiest of the three REVs tasted (tasted with Rum Cask and RA). It convinced the most throughout the entire breathing time in the glass as well as in the mouth. A wonderfully integrated aroma wrapped in a heavy sweetness. To be fair, the other two bottles had been open for much longer.

Crosstasting 2025 – Guyana REV 1994 vintage After ten tastings, it can be said: You can't go wrong with the REV 1994. The vintage stands for consistently high quality and is a real flagship for Guyana rum. Versatile, deep, and full of character. The basic markers (plum, leather, licorice, dark chocolate, and black tea) are found in varying degrees in all bottlings. Conclusion: The REV 1994 vintage shows the range of Demerara rum: from creamy-sweet to smoky-roasty to complex-dry. Despite different bottlers' signatures, the core remains clearly recognizable. An outstanding year that shows a lot of class. The tasting was demanding, however, as over time the roasted aromas dominated the bouquet and I had to take breaks to perceive the subtle differences. Distilia REV 1994 Here too the profile of an old Guyana. Less dense on the palate than on the nose. The finish lasts long but somewhat discreet. For me, it falls short of expectations.

my new 94 Enmore REV reference! On the nose prune, tobacco, herbs. The relatively low ABV (compared to the RC and RA) is insb. on the palate not detrimental at all. A wonderfully balanced aroma with a long finish of prune and black tea.

In the round with the three TheRumCask bottlings and the Nobilis 94 REV as opponents. For me, the 27-year-old from TheRumCask is a shade ahead. Whining on a high level, of course this is also a great bottling but unfortunately also the most expensive.

A little comparison of two, 28yo REV... that will be nice 🥰. Here the first, from Distilia:Nose: totally round! Complex and intense. A real nose-pleaser. Strong spicy, dark and toasty aromas with lots of molasses and licorice, plus light maggi and dark, fragrant sandalwood. Alongside dried fruit, like apricot, plum and tart blackcurrant. Also neat polish and pencil shavings I find, as well as fine herbs. Just very good. 9.2Palate: deliciously complex and round. But also distinct but pleasantly bitter. Very woody-malty-roasty, cedary. Lots of tart molasses but with less licorice. Instead, again distinct and more pencil shavings. Some subtle dried plum and dried apricot. Instead, more burnt caramel and mocha. Also on the palate light herbs and cereals.In the finish remains the pleasantly bitter woodiness with molasses and plum. ABV also fits quite nicely. 9.2Super REV. Noble and expensive.

An impressive nose, both very woody with all kinds of wood and herbaceous, with prunes and a lovely freshness. Same thing on the palate, the solid wood is balanced by a fresh, herbaceous side. The prunes are less pronounced than on the nose. Incredible balance here. You can't get enough of it. The smoothness on the palate is remarkable. The finish is quite tannic, but the pleasant freshness persists right to the end.

Nose Bold, wood, roasted, light mint, dried fruit, light plum, light tobacco, light anise, spice, light orange. Palate Bold, wood, light roasted, faint smoke, oily, faint leather, light licorice, faint coffee, faint chocolate, light cherry, prunes, light mint. Finish Long, wood, light roasted, light caramel, light berries, dried fruit, faint coffee. Empty glass Vanilla, chocolate, faint herbs, light leather, light coffee, light orange.

REV tasting of the Franconian Tasting Gang November 2024: A total of five REVs from 1994 were poured, the three bottlings from The Rum Cask, the Nobilis and Distilia Greenheart. At 27 years old, the youngest TRC still delivers the best performance for me, with very nice dry fruit notes on the nose. Its slightly older brothers are a little less fruity, but more spicy and toasty. The Nobilis has the most herbal notes of the five. The Distilia is also beautifully fruity on the nose, but quite sweet and a little thin on the palate.

This rum brings deep complexity, carried by dark fruits, fine spices, and a pleasant woody note. It remains elegant and harmonious throughout, with a slightly oily texture that caresses the palate. That certain extra is clearly noticeable – a rum that fits perfectly into the dark season. A crackling campfire alongside it is just ideal. Tested just in time before the spring breakthrough. Thanks to Gunnar for the sample.

Very interesting rev profile compared to what I'm used to. Violet meets reduced cola, meets licorice, sea salt dark chocolate and molasses, as well as pencil shavings and light anise and coffee notes, as well as rotten wood and tobacco. Overall me too pencil...Not quite mine but still exciting!

Online tasting with Rum Explorer, Matt Pietrek and Mitch Wilson tonight! I feel like I'm tasting the wrong run, I've got dried fruits like raisin and dried fig, it besides for some reason I have mainly caramel and even a yeasty flavor. Not my favorite Versailles.

The rum was allowed to breathe for 1 hour. Great, spicy nose with some sour cherry and dried fruits. On the palate wonderfully round with aromas of sour cherry, wood, fine spices, maybe a bit of cassis. The alcohol is incredibly well integrated. One or two drops of water are not necessary but do it good. The aromas slowly fade on the finish, leaving slight tannins and sour cherry. Really a great rum! Edit: Small REV tasting. All tasted rums have a very dark color due to their high age. RX12203: 9.0 Nose: Dried fruits, not too dry but rather fruity. Also a bit of lovage and a nice heavy spice. Palate: Some fine wood, nice spice, dried fruits with heavy sweetness. The finish leaves some wood and leather. Really a beautiful drop. RX17202: 9.0 Nose: A bit more discreet than RX12203. Heavy sweetness and spice. Palate: Also on the palate more wood and spice than RX12203, slightly bitter, the tannins are more present here. On the finish this beautiful woody-spicy slight bitterness comes to the fore. At the very end I find some chestnuts. RX21851: 9.0 Nose: Again more sweetness and fruitiness compared to RX17202. Palate: Here only a subtle fruitiness, the tannins are now even more pronounced but not disturbing. I find slightly burnt caramel. The finish leaves a not unpleasant bitterness and at the very end fine wood. RX25870: 9.1 Nose: Subtle. Light, heavy sweetness. Palate: Wow, really full and directly present. Fruitiness, tannins, spice, burnt caramel, slight bitterness all perceivable side by side and all very harmonious. Only the alcohol is slightly more present than in the other TRC, but not disturbing. Also very round and balanced on the finish. The oldest TRC REV is for me also the best. RX12425: 9.1 Nose: Quite red-fruity, not too dry. So far the fruitiest nose. Palate: Wow, really great and full aroma. Red fruitiness, not too dry, dominates. Tannins and a slight bitterness. Black tea and slightly burnt caramel. Also very round on the finish. Oh how good these old REVs are! Amazing nose with dried plum, caramel, herbs, tobacco, leather, cola and chocolate. Nice spice with wood and not too little great notes of licorice. A great olfactory experience. On the palate wonderfully aromatic and spicy. Tobacco, dark chocolate, dried plum, licorice, dried fruits and burnt sugar with a dark, roasted note. Then herbs, pencil and something floral. Very balanced and harmonious. The long finish impresses with great complexity with spice, tobacco, chocolate, dried plum, licorice and coffee. Then it slowly fades out with leather, black tea, pencil and roasted wood. I am absolutely thrilled! Thanks to @Gunnar Böhme for the sample 😀

What a treat! Really complex and still balanced. The alcohol is barely noticeable. With some 1994 REVs the wood, bitterness and herbal notes are a bit too intense for my liking. Not with this one, this is just excellent.

So how do I start, really an excellent drop. On the nose leather, plum, wood, herbs, spicy and a cola note. On the palate then really nice and dark, dried plum, wood, tobacco, a slight bitterness, something roasted and pencil shavings. Simply excellent! Excellent!

Very tasty REV. Incredibly round and beautiful plum notes on the nose. I like the fruitiness and the pleasant sweetness. Nice herbal flavor and notes of extremely dark chocolate with dried fruit and leather. Could do with a bit more oomph, but very tasty.

Incredible. The best in the vieux Versailles category. The prune confit side but with a more vegetal thread in addition that brings freshness. All perfectly balanced and an unsuspected alcohol. A true liquid pleasure!

Top REV. As often written, tobacco, leather, wood and dried plum. Nice spice and bitterness. For me also a certain black tea note. Paired with the fruit aromas, it all fits together very very well. Finish also great.

Small REV tasting. Very tasty REV. Incredibly round and beautiful plum notes on the nose. I like the fruitiness and the polish. Nice herbal flavor and notes of extremely dark chocolate with dried fruit and leather. The finish is incredibly long.

At first, the nose is a really nice intense aroma of dried plums. Then it reminds me of the empty cigar boxes I used to get from my uncle. Also something sweetish, a bit vegetal. You think of a colonial goods store with tobacco, barrels. Really great and the alcohol is very restrained. The taste then delivers what the nose promises. Strong, spicy, the tobacco comes through, even a slight sweetness - supposedly no sugar content. Plus a strong dose of pencil. Towards the finish, overripe fruits appeared, that was unexpected. The finish itself is partly bitter, has the tobacco notes again and interestingly tropical fruits, towards overripe mango that lingers long. I like it very much, from nose to finish. Always interesting aromas, with every sip you discover something different. The alcohol is unobtrusive and perfectly integrated. A drop of water in the empty glass creates a strong cloud of tobacco scent... #18:250119

a bit fishy on the nose on a first impression 🐟seeweed, salt, wood, very herbal, not really fruity but quite complex, even more after resting a while in the glas. Now there are the dried fruits and as well the red fruits, dried cherries and goji berries. Complex as well on the palate, with the influence of the cask being more dominant over dried fruits, dark chocolate and burned caramel, orchestrated to a very harmonic rum. It doesn’t have to have a Velier badge on it.

Wow, what an intense heavy nose, a drought plum in a cola glass on a flower meadow with fine herbs in between. Could sniff it forever. Also in the mouth very intense, the drought plum pulls through to the end, in addition noble wood, spice and a fine sweet / bitter note. Absolutely class. Guyana is and remains my favorite. ... Enmore - drive distillery, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have the flavor of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excites lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very strong and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.

The Greenheart actually has everything a REV 1994 needs. Also not too much sweetness like the Rum Artesanal bottling. But sometimes pencil notes come through. I'm not a big fan of that.

Next blind tasting. Brutal dried fruit aroma on nose and palate. Wood, nuts and light roasting. Very full-bodied and definitely long tropical aging. Alcohol content probably below 60%... could be more. Also a slight sweetness. Nice piece.

Very intense in aroma, with notes of lacquer, leather, tobacco, smoked plum, overripe tropical fruits - including bananas; dark chocolate, roasted nuts in honey, molasses, and demerara sugar. On the palate equally intense, with spicy spices, menthol, anise, and licorice. Long finish, shifting from sweet tropical fruits through sour cherry to menthol and spices.
