"Liquid gummi bears" is how one member sums up this unaged Savanna, and it fits — pineapple and strawberry sweets crash into olive brine, glue and green vegetal funk. It's HERR through and through: fruity, salty, chemical in the best way. At 57% the alcohol stays surprisingly well tucked in. A few longtime fans miss the fruit-heavier older batches, but plenty call this their favourite blanc.

Looking at the price tag you get a lot for your money in this one as well. Very fresh and fruity from opening the bottle and warm on the palate with some ester. I have tried a few HERR and this one is not fully up to par with the average. The 2019 is still my personal favourite ☺️

Joke of the day. Mix of a cheap fruit sweet and toilet cleaner. I particularly disliked the detergent finish… 😱 Sample bottle was reused, so the label is wrong.

HERR is trump 😅 I’m into it... Fat fruity fat ester... that basically says it all.... Absolute winner in cocktails like Daiquiri and co.

Unfortunately, I don't like the new batch at all. I let it breathe for over an hour, but in direct comparison with the old Savanna Herr 57% or 62.5%, the typical pineapple gummy bear and general fruit power is almost gone. The ice candies are still there, but otherwise it has a very vegetable and fresh profile. Too bad. But there are several years in between and this shows just how much terroir and time can influence the taste of a rum that has not been produced for several years, as I learned in an interview with Noelle Traxel at the GRF 2022. Unfortunately, it is also disappointing for me in a daiquiri :(

I like these HERR bottlings, although this one is one of the somewhat weaker ones for me. It leans more towards the vegetal side and the fruit recedes a bit. Habitation Velier remains the reference for me here. Nevertheless, a good bottling, but more for mixing

On aeration, citrus fruits arise, molasses is flowery, vegetal with mushrooms, chocolate, meaty, burnt notes join, spicy allspice. 8,3:On the palate, the attack is intense, funky with esters, menthol, rubber, slightly chemical, fruity with fermented, overripe tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, citrus fruits and berries, some vinegar, smoky, oily with olive, fresh, herbaceous, floral, grassy with hay, slightly bitter, metallic, burnt, peppery, spicy with allspice. 8,2:The finish is medium long, dry, medicinal with esters, rubber, slightly metallic, chemical, smoky, spicy, warm, molasses is fresh, grassy, vegetal with briny olive, tropical, red and citrus fruits are fermented. A well-bodied Savanna with a beautiful aromatic palette. The nose immediately plunges us into the heart of the matter with a typical high ester side from Savanna: olive, basil, chili, earthy and vegetal notes, spices, medicinal notes, esters, polish, glue but also ripe and fermented tropical fruits give this profile a funky, concentrated but not aggressive side. On the palate, the HERR mark takes over with chemical and synthetic notes reminiscent of harlequin candy, recalling some red and exotic fruits (strawberry, pineapple). The ripe, even fermented side becomes more present with quite marked phenolic and medicinal notes. At first glance, this Savanna seems cloying after a few sips, but as it opens up, the vegetal, floral, and herbal notes give a welcome touch of freshness on the palate. The alcohol is rather well integrated. The finish seems quite short, but remains intense on very ripe fruits with chemical aromas, medicinal notes, and this herbal, vegetal, and fresh touch that softens the whole. The olive is particularly present here. An unaged profile with nice potential, it would be curious to taste an aged version to fully draw out all the capabilities it has to offer.

A rum tasted at the Rum and Gin Festival in Lucerne. The nose is lively without being aggressive, a curious mix of olive and ripe pineapple with freshness that can remind of cucumber. The palate is lively, fresh on menthol with also pineapple and olive. The finish is short but pineapple lingers very long in the mouth. I imagine a tropical beach bar with everything to prepare refreshing cocktails and a street vendor selling very ripe pineapples nearby.

Small Savanna White HERR / Grand Arome tasting - May 2026 Fruity than the 1802 and the alcohol is less disturbing here. The nose is a bit restrained for a HERR at first. However, the bottle has been open for a while and is almost empty. Maybe that's partly why.

Again a nice Savanna gentleman. On the nose definitely very fresh. Olive definitely stands out here. Ester is also recognizable. On the palate also lots of olive and ester, Savanna typically very vegetal and funky. But very good.

You either like it or you don't, but you can't remain indifferent to this new version of HERR. For me, it's an unqualified success. Perhaps more accessible than the previous version, as it's fruitier. A really good blend of fruit, esters, a fermented sensation and planty notes. For me, it's 100% validated, even though I'm not a big fan of the older Savannas.

I find Savanna Herr 57% difficult to describe. A mix of medicinal strawberry chewing gum with funk. I find it too alcoholic and warming on the finish, also I perceive something bitter. White rums are just not really my thing, but quite okay.

Rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-heavy pieces like Grand Arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in just a few drops of liquid for a long time..

Extremely expressive for a non-barrel-aged spirit and yet fruity in a way that I have hardly ever experienced with a fruit brandy. I have to be in the right mood for this rum due to its extravagant aromas, but then I can really celebrate it. Great!

Very fruity and estery HERR, which is my favourite mark from Savanna. Reminds me of pineapple flavoured Haribo gummy bears and strawberry flavoured chewing gum. Not as good as the Habitation Velier unaged version.

A really crazy combination of pineapple, olive, berries, as well as light ester notes is offered at the start. On the palate and finish the pineapple is especially present. Alcohol is super well integrated. One of the best unaged rums I've tried so far

Always so fascinating this HERR! More balanced than the previous batch, less focused on red fruits, more saline, on the brine of green olives, it looks like a mix between HERR batch 2 and Lontan 57.

It’s not here yet but I was even able to taste the 2023. A complicated and unique nose to describe, A confusing candy strawberry tagada side, It was crazy! Even if surely not 2 glasses in a row. A superb vintage after tasting again.

The best white in its category in my opinion. An explosion of flavor on the palate, a nose that stands out and takes me back to Reunion with every breath, and it's the rum that stays, of all those I've tasted, the longest in the mouth!

I compared the Habitation velier HERR, the HERR 57 (2019) and the HERR 57 2022. The first two are very similar with the HERR 57 (2019) being slightly better in my opinion. Both are full of red fruit, berries, bubble gum, glue and flowers. The HERR 57 (2022) has more vegetal notes and is less fruity. This one was my least favourite out of the three.

Hate it or love it. Ester, rotten fruit, rotting strawberries, pink bubble gum, artificial flavors. Everything that makes the HERRz beat higher. But much tamer than its brothers and sisters from previous years. The entry-level HERR.

Big funk here. Like cherry, a hint of overripe palm dates. Clear water pour. A little bit of grassiness and I can see the olive others report. But it's mostly sweet on the nose. Mouth aroma hits with more complexity. Vanilla comes out, canned pineapple. Add some ham with the olive and such and you'd have a Hawaiian pizza. My first Savanna and excited to try more, especially if this is the starting point. Sample thanks to xamsx.

This is the unmatured mature older brother of the old 57 versions. There are old flavours that really are gorgeous. I find this a huge improvement to the one before and mich more drinkable than the habitation

Not at the level of the Habitation Velier herr. Also causes a certain tingling on the tongue that I don’t like. That said, it’s a good rum with a nice nose but the comparison with the others penalizes it.
