Red fruits, port and a woody, slightly vinous edge — this Madeira cane-juice rum wears its wine cask openly, and most people here don't mind. Roasted notes, caramel and coconut fill in underneath, with the 53% alcohol tucked in well. The nose gets a lot of love; the palate lands thinner than you'd expect. A few catch a faint sulphuric note. Easy to sip, and a nice partner for cheese or chocolate.

#19th dec RumXCalendar Blind tasting: Nose: licorice, dark chocolate, coconut Mouth: caramel, coconut, roasted, dark chocolate, vanilla, barrel notes Finish: long, woody, roasted, barrel notes I enjoyed it, but couldn’t find any notes of the port wine cask :/ I think it should be from Antigua ca.60% 6 years of aging

Extremely floral on the nose, the first thing that comes to mind is calendula ointment 😂 I can't smell port wine, more like sherry. On the palate spicy, and a play between malty sweetness and acidity, which also dominates the finish. Interesting stuff, but for a whole bottle of this, it would be too special for me...

Rum X Advent 19.12.22 I'm heading towards mid-aged Agricole. For me, many rather sweet notes come through. It seems rather thin to me and disappears very quickly in the mouth. Something between VSOP and XO. Martinique again? Something we haven't had yet - Dillon? N: Sugar, Crème Brûlée, pipe tobacco, young wood, grassy, dried fruits M: Honey, caramel, burnt, watery, spicy, subtly smoky F: Dry, wood, dried fruits, apricot kernel Edit: not blind the port wine comes through. An accessible yet complex rum. Overall it remains too thin. But it's still good.

A very affordable and tasty Madeira rum, offering traditional notes of red fruits and Port on the nose, as well as wood, caramel, spices, and brown sugar. The mouth is very smooth, focused on the same fruity and sweet notes, with a hint of espresso, slightly smoky/roasted, and a touch of acidity. The finish, a bit short, stays on similar notes. The alcohol is well integrated, offering a smooth, original rum with good complexity.

This rum leans towards Agricole in its characteristics. I'm still trying to warm up to this type of rum. Here, it actually works quite well. Overall, though, I miss complexity or a surprising note.

So I don't yet have a very sharp palate to use technical terms. Nevertheless, the Madeira met the expectations I had when buying it. Very nice. Not aggressive on the nose with that typical woody note of wine casks. A little syrupy side, powerful but brief. Medium finish, I would have liked a taste that stays more pronounced in the mouth but that's my taste. You can clearly feel the fruit, like cherry, it's the Porto aging that had its effect. Very happy with this purchase.

Port wine definitely recognizable but not necessarily disturbing. I would be interested to know what kind of port it was, as it certainly wasn't a tawny cask. Lots of tannins, quite astringent, sour, roasted, and sulfurous. Alcohol well integrated. Overall, it doesn't quite suit my taste.

Superb very fruity nose, with fine wood, spices, caramel. In short, all good stuff. The palate is rougher while remaining very pleasant. Roasted notes (coffee, cocoa, tobacco) dominate. The barrel is also present with beautiful spices and a winey side. As usual, a nice selection of barrels.

RumX Advent Calendar 2022: once again a wine cask, but luckily the influence is limited. Red fruits are nicely perceptible. Besides that roasted aromas, wood and spices. Alcohol quite weak and finish medium.

The Madeira agricole notes stay more in the background and the port wine cask comes through clearly. But it is still at a level that is not "too much" yet. The rum is very easy to drink and tasty.

A very nice representative of Madeira rums. Has everything that makes this type so unique. Port wine in all layers, plus a fine cask, nutty and slightly bitter in the finish. The alcohol is well integrated. Addendum: the more you drink, the more bitter it becomes in the finish, but that doesn’t make it worse.

RumXmas 2022, #19, blind: Made it in time. First second I was leaning towards Foursquare, but it’s indeed missing some coconut. It hasn’t had much time (duh), but for me so far honey and alcohol is most prominent. Needs some more air. Maybe Belize (Travellers) or some “higher ABV” Panama? Not getting the agricole notes so far. Would never have guessed Madeira, not in a million years :grin: unexpected for me that it’s sugar cane juice. For my taste, it’s rather sweet at the moment

Not super impressed. Not a bad rum. But it had two things that i disliked. Too sweet and a dash sulphuric which did not gel well with me.
