Toasted coconut, glue and overripe mango, with a wall of oak that builds as it sits. This 16-year Long Pond VRW is the softer, fruitier end of Jamaica — several tasters blind-guessed Foursquare or a Bajan rum. Give it 30 minutes and licorice, marzipan and dark chocolate turn up. At 68.5% the alcohol is remarkably well-tucked, though the tannic finish stays demanding.

Direct comparison in a blind tasting between the two sister casks. Almost identical key data. Two outstanding bottlings. Both fight on the dark side of the force with wet wooden swords peppered with dark cherries and blackberries. A bit of funk shines through as the aromatic swords clash. The aromas explode when they clash until there is nothing left and both opponents lie exhausted on the ground. Then 12464 has the longer breath. RX12502 The finish seems to evaporate, but loops and comes out fruity and lingers. and lingers for a very long time. brilliant! RX12464 Brilliant. An absolute favorite of mine. Two excellent rums.

The rum is definitely unfiltered. There are still clearly black sediments visible in the glass. For me, a rather atypical Jamaican with notes of coconut and fruits. But it hits exactly my taste. Alcohol almost perfectly integrated. Blind I would probably guess a Bajan rum rather than a Jamaican. I like it even better on the second tasting. The bottle is now half empty and I still like it very much. Edit: Tasted again against the TWB. On the nose both very similar and hardly any differences to detect. At first the RDL brings a bit more glue, which settles over time. On the palate the RDL is a bit spicier and with more barrel influence. For me both very good bottlings!! Edit: Still remains for me one of the best 2005 VRWs, although all are very close together. In my view quite underrated.

First impression trough the nose: light ester, fruity, glue; just like a good old LP. But once you take of the cap of the glass this smells disappear quickly, only the smells of the barrel remain. Same thing on the palate… It’s a bit fruity (coconut) similar to a foursquare. After the fruity notes the barrel/roasted notes take the overhand. The finish is woody with a hint of fresg coconut graters. Second impression: Much Much better, found some licorice, minty and coconut notes. Very lovely. The finish remains woody. +2 in rating Although it’s not bad, it’s still a good balanced, complex rum. The alcohol is integrated well too.

Day 9 of the Samples de Luxe calendar. A sweet nose with a little alcoholic spiciness. Tutto frutti with varnished wood and marzipan. You can feel the watts in the mouth, whoa! But it remains balanced. The finish seems short, but the marzipan and cola linger for a long time. A pleasure rum, but neither the most complex nor the deepest. But balance and power are there. I made a blind Foursquare bet. The empty glass lets sweet aromas develop. Delicious.

I really like these high-proof rums from Romdeluxe, although this one has fewer %. Doesn’t matter, still a cool Long Pond, with lots of esters and tropical fruits like mango on the nose and palate. Also a bit of glue on the nose. Tasty.

8,8:On the nose, the first impression we get is with glue and esters, the tropical fruits and wood are secondary, as we notice tempting, sweet marzipan, spicy vanilla, the coconut is toasted, the nuts roasted and molasses vegetal and dark with licorice. 8,8:On the palate, the attack is estery with syrupy tropical fruits like mango, intense because of high ABV and sweet with charred wood notes like caramel and nuts, spicy with vanilla and pepper.The coconut is again toasted, the molasses vegetal, herbaceous.Our tasting buds are screaming of delicious notes, when the rum becomes very balanced with yellow fruits, raisins and licorice.Menthol pops up later. 8,7:The finish is long with dark molasses, yellow fruits, spicy, roasted wood, toasted coconut, dried fruits and a bit tannic.. Highly unusual but delicious and aromatic long Pond 2005, very powerful, the alcohol is present but not overpowering and well integrated. The longer it stands, the better it tastes to me! 😄 Lots of roasted aromas, caramelized coconut chips, overripe mango, cocoa dust, raisin, pepper and vanilla. Great balance and overall surprisingly balanced for 68.5%. the tannin structure on the finish is demanding, but also ensures a long-lasting finish. Surprisingly good release from RdL!

Unfortunately I rarely have pictures as we have a, in my mind, nice rule of leaving the phone in the other room when tasting 😊 This is a very nice Long Pond. Very fruity and fresh and yet hans nice wood and spices on top. I like that you can get the berries in the profile and the empty glass is really nice.

Tasting date 04.09.2026 Barbados night with Mr. Daniel Jungberg. RX12464 Long Pond VRW 2005. Nose: Glue and licorice, toasted notes, vanilla and nuts, light coconut notes. Mouth: Balanced sweetness and fruity esters. Spices, vanilla and nutty notes. Residual taste: is spiced and long, toasted wood and dried fruits, light pleasant bitter nuts. Nice rum with a good amount of ester, which I personally always like. This bottling has everything you would expect. Beautifully complex. Personally, it would be too expensive for me, but that's the old problem with Romdeluxe.

Lots of sweet oak influence; reminiscent of the 1994 New Yarmouth vintage. Interesting that this similarity can sometimes be found in the Long Ponds from the mid-2000s. Very pleasing, the interplay of vanilla sweetness and tropical fruit as well as the barrel works perfectly.

A very nice rum that stands out if you leave it in the glass for at least 30 minutes. Complex in aroma and taste, with vanilla and coconut coming to the fore alongside tropical fruits, woody notes and esters. Well-integrated alcohol, different but cool.

In direct comparison to the 2005 VRW from RumX. Romdeluxe is fruitier, has more acidity and a slight Teca vibe. The finish has light roasted notes. The Rum-X bottling has more roasted notes. Coconut. Subtle fruity notes. A nice chocolate note and some barrel on the finish. Both great bottlings. Personally, I prefer the fruitier Romdeluxe. On the other hand, the alcohol is less well integrated. But because of the Teca vibes, it's a wafer-thin winner.

Very nice rum that shines if you leave it in the glass for at least 30 minutes. Complex in nose and taste, besides tropical fruit, woody tones and esters, vanilla or coconut also come forward. Well integrated alcohol, recommended.

An der Nase doch einiges an Marzipan gepaart mit ordentlich Klebstoff. Am Gaumen eine runde Mischung aus Kokos, Vanille und vielleicht etwas Zimt. Raltiv rund und ausgewogen mit schönem Abgang. Sehr lecker.

Very nice low ester Long Pond. It has a good balance of tropical fruits, wood and spices. I especially like the notes of coconut and allspice. The finish lingers with some dark chocolate and tannins. Needs to rest for at least 30 minutes.

Rom de luxe and despite its high price makes great rums! I've never had a bad one 😁 rum color: mahogany, typical LP aroma, nice wood in the taste, sweetness of fruit. Very good LP, aging did it well :)

Schöner Rum von Romedeluxe. In der Farbe ein dunkler Bernstein nit leicht orangem Einschlag. Der Naseneindruck ist Holz/Fassgeprägt. Dazu geröstete Kokosnuss. Esteraromen und leichter Kleber kommen dann erst am Gaumen. Dazu eine würzige Eichenholzsüsse, die den sportlichen ABV gut ausbalanciert. Der Abgang ist sehr lang und harmonisch. Die Süsse klingt nach ohne auch nur im Ansatz pappig zu wirken. Wirklich gelungene Abfüllung. Gewinnt deutlich mit 20 bis 30 min im Glas.

Good Jamaican rum. The alcohol is well integrated, less so on the fruit, nice evolution. I like it. It opens up as it breathes. Powerful nose, esters, a bit mentholated. A bit of frangipani. A huge attack. First kiss mentholated with a nice length. Second mouth more pastry-like after a dry attack with a bit of pineapple. Interesting length on blond tobacco. Slightly on the cask.
