Swell de Spirits Long Pond Co-bottling series #4 ITP 2007
The Long Pond that surprises even funk chasers — this is a low-ester one, and people love it anyway. Think caramelised banana, toasted coconut and almond pastries, with cedar and black pepper filling in behind. At 68% it's hot; give it twenty minutes to open. Several tasters keep comparing it to a powerful Foursquare rather than a classic ester bomb.

Untypical Long Pond. Little ester and rather hints of the barrel-strong Appleton Hearts. Very intense and concentrated. Alcohol could be a bit better integrated. Nevertheless, exciting profile!

I actually already like these low ester long ponds, but this bottling is a little too alcoholic on the palate for me. Even after a little time in the glass, it doesn't get much better. Unfortunately, this denies it a better rating.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Extremely cool funky (low ester) long pond. Top alcohol integration and really fun after just 5 minutes of breathing. I'm very positively surprised by this bottling!🤤🇯🇲💣 For me, it can easily keep up with the previous velier 2007 bottlings! Hard to say which ester mark has been hit here... From the sweet notes it could be a MBS from the fermented notes but also almost a TECA... Supposedly it's an ITP! In any case, really cool stuff! Flavorful flambéed banana, lots of orange peel - zest and fresh juice, black pepper, dark chocolate, some mint and coconut macaroons! 🤤 Incredibly cool in Mai Tai!

Nose: intense, fruity, roasty, alcohol quite present, first impression: possibly Foursquare - but actually too intense, stings in the nose, a strange musty note is present Palate: very spicy and alcoholic, approx. 65% alcohol content, again many connections to Foursquare but again too intense. Very complex with spices (cinnamon and nutmeg), lots of barrel (oak), Finish: intense and long, dry and barrel-heavy, yet balanced and delicious. A very good rum, I really like it and I would guess Foursquare without hesitation if the rum wasn't so intense and didn't have this strange musty note. My money is on a really good Foursquare or a rum from Belize. Score: 8.7

Strong release from Swell ! Well balanced and despite 68% really good to drink ... am actually rather fan of higher Ester Marks just at Long Pond but this clearly proves that there is also in the unterem range really good stuff ... great fruit, some wood, some bitterness in the finish and almost perfectly integrated alcohol make fun for more! This rum needs time to mature. Let the bottle air out a little. Do the same with each glass. Then you can fully enjoy this ultra-evolving profile: a skilful blend of fruit, wood, pastry, vanilla and so on. It's amazing how it evolves. Tannins are quite present, but the wine is deliciously pastry-like. As usual with Mika Barbaria's selections: a superb rum. Edit: With a drop of water to try and lower the alcohol level a little, you don't lose the richness of this rum. I would have liked a small reduction to make it more accessible after all.

Alcohol not so well integrated. Overall somewhat flat due to the low ester pith, but nice tropical fruit.
Review by Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰
A very nice Long Pond. Warm and fruity with nice woodiness and spices. I like the roasted note in the background.
Review by cigares
A nose with esters, a fermented side but above all pastries (brioche and almond croissant), a very gourmand nose. Also fruits like banana and coconut. The palate is lively, alcoholic, intense, exotic fruits and a fermented almost metallic side on one hand and sweet and bitter pastries on the other. The wood is more marked than on the nose, cedar wood. The finish is long, bitter, rather balanced unlike the somewhat rough palate. A beautiful rum, expressive, but the balance is not really there.
Review by Basti
Again, I could sniff it forever. Coconut, trop. (Over)ripe fruit, toffee, popcorn, caramel and a light floral note. On the palate you can find everything the nose promises, but also slightly dirty notes. Very good Long Pond!

Indeed, not a typical LP. Very fruity and little ester.Nose: an intense and pleasant aroma spreads in the space around the glass. Superficially it is very tropical fruity with tart sweet passion fruit, fine coconut, and papaya, but next to it banana and a touch of apricot with cherry. At the same time it is full and spicy with vanilla and licorice. The barrel also comes through and is ready of white chocolate. Also noticeable is the intense, pleasant sweetness that reminds me of sugar syrup and caramel. A great round nose, the high ABV supports but is very well integrated. 90Palate: on the palate the alcohol is then not so well integrated. It is quite strong, astringent and bitter-salty-sour at the start. I then find some ester tones here as well. The bitter notes turn to lemon and orange peel, becoming increasingly metallic, spicy and woody. Toasted out the back, slightly toasty and some umami. Can't keep up with the nice nose on the palate. 82Nose very nice, palate too unbalanced and bitter. Overall, an interesting aloe-ester LP.

Nothing to do with the usual LPs, yet it remains delicious 🤤 first a very beautiful color, followed by a really very pleasant nose, this LP profile needs about twenty minutes to take the best advantage of all the aromas. Very beautiful gourmandise and a huge length 😍 In short, atypical but delicious 😍🤩 Favorite by the way because having tasted all the rums from Swell, it's my favorite ❤️ with the NY.

👃 Starts with a fairly lively alcoholic presence, you can feel the 68°. Then, it's a flood of indulgent aromas; orange zest, orange liqueur, orange blossom, spicy and vanilla wood, dark chocolate, flambéed banana, grilled coconut, almond croissants, liquid caramel from the pastry chef, furniture polish, dried flowers from fruit trees. 😋 Let's not lie, the alcohol kick is present. Beyond that detail, you will be surprised by the many flavors this Jamaican offers that can easily be confused with a powerful and intense Foursquare. Spicy and vanilla wood, grilled coconut, orange zest, roasted nuts, unrefined sugar caramel, dried banana and cocoa, and this jammy side of tropical fruits left too long in the sun. ⛳ Hot, spicy, peppery, sharp, lively. Indulgence of caramel, coconut, dark chocolate dessert, orange and ripe banana. Wood well present, you can feel the contribution of the barrel. 🏅 Even though the alcohol degree is very high, it amplifies the aromas of this rum minute after minute in the glass. A true Jamaican low ester strength, very Foursquare-tinged, that I love more and more as I taste. My rating slowly but surely evolves from 85 to 88/100. Ultimately, it's the best Long Pond ITP I know to date.
Review by Agricoler
Very nice Long Pond Low Ester. The smell is reminiscent of a 94 New Yarmouth/. In my opinion, however, it falls a little short on the palate. I find the integration of the alcohol incredibly good.
Review by Arthur Moreau
A long, indulgent pond, without the usual esters, balanced and smooth, pastry-like. A rare profile for this distillery. Very pleasant.

Really awesome LP. ABV very sexy, but Mark is a bit boring
Review by Speedflo
Wow what a bomb, an absolute favorite in a cross-tasting. Tried it several times in the MT and also extremely good. ITP speaks for a low ester LP, which unusually has a decent funk. For me, a top bottling from Swell.

Tasted after Velier Teca 2005. The wood and dryness is more pronounced, personally miss the fruit. Alcohol is detectable.
Review by Djehey
At 68°, this rum is very intense. Too intense for me... And yet, with time, its fire seems to calm down, allowing the aromas to express themselves more fully. There's a lot of greed, fruit and spice. I like it, but in small doses...
Review by Benoit Mahe
A profile that differs from the Long Pond rums I'm used to drinking, which are higher in esters. It's not bad at all but not necessarily what I enjoy the most. It reminds me of the Appleton Heart Collection, but more balanced.
Review by Pavel Spacek
Ooooh! Mild, woody, chocolate, leather. Amazing! EDIT: And that creamy nose at the beggining. WOW!
Review by Rare Akuma
First and foremost fruity wafts of toasted coconut, blackberries and orange zest; followed by caramelised banana and custard filled pastries. The heart consists of oak and malt, lightly nutty and bitter coffee, chased by a little bit of glue stick and lots of black tea. Prominent banana and toasted coconut on the palate. More bakery notes: vanilla, cinnamon and crème patissière. Toast with milky coffee on the side. Subsequently intensely spicy with black pepper. Ends in more floral black tea. The finish is medium in length with caramelised banana and coconut as well as coffee with slightly too much milk.
Review by Barnagricole
A super-evolving, polymorphic nose that's astonishing. The palate starts slowly and the alcohol comes on gradually. Could have been reduced a little.
Review by Alexander Rasch
An ITP that reminds me strongly of the RumX bottling on the nose. Here is definitely a marrow that is very similar. It's exciting how complex Long Pond is. On the palate, however, the Swell can't quite keep up. Lots of barrel, metallic, somewhat chemical and a little alcoholic. Thinner on the finish than I had hoped. Overall, a tasty bottling, especially with the red berries, but not a must-have.
Review by DUBOIS Arnaud
It's a surprising Long Pond because it has much less Ester than those I've tried before but it has power and great complexity with a crazy indulgence that makes it essential for me.
Review by Léo Delek
Not at all what I usually look for in Jamaicans with the funky side (ripe fruits/solvents) but something very successful for the 68%. It kicks but drinks well thanks to the indulgence of molasses, brown sugar, cane syrup, ... We also have some fruity and juicy notes that quickly make you want to come back but it is rather the spicy, woody and smoky side that takes up space. Very successful!!
Review by Buddudharma
Powerful, tropically aged Long Pond. Somewhat oily and dirty (in a good way) aftertaste, otherwise spices and wood dominate. Very good!
Review by Vidaa Wz
Long Pond that goes a bit off the beaten path Very beautiful typical nose though Not much ester but that's not a problem since it's balanced with lots of ripe yellow fruits The alcohol could have been a bit better integrated in my opinion
Review by Thunderbird
This LP is too immature for me ! He is characterized me too much of the spicy roasty side! Fruit is barely perceptible on the palate ! The alcohol also dominates me too much! Even after some time in the glass he does not win to it
Review by Michal S
An atypical Long Pond, but worth tasting, rich aroma and taste, lots of layers.

Tasted at Rhum Society. Superb.
Review by Fran13
Warm, woody, fruity, pastry-like... An amazing, original Long Pond with few esters. I can get lost for a long time in this beautiful aromatic complexity, both on the nose and on the palate. I love it 🤩
Review by Ayc
Tasting with Simon Nose: relatively alcoholic, ripe mango, deserves an eeeeeextremely long opening. The solvent appears little by little without being excessive Palate: we find the long pond structure, a bit animal, very nice chew and length on the fruit (passion). It's not necessarily super well integrated in alcohol but it's good.
Review by FoAx
Fill level of my bottle started to decrease, I decided to accelerate the process 🔪 Nose : coconut, pastries, wood, after some time ripe fruits and some herbal, camphoraceous Taste : coconut, woody, herbal, tanins Finale : dry, woody, toasted coconut, tanins
