Several tasters call it the best Hampden they've had — pineapple, overripe banana, glue and caramel woven together, with 21 years of light wood rounding the edges. It is often called the King of Hampden - and I agree with this verdict. Especially in direct comparison with other top representatives of the distillery, the outstanding quality becomes more than clear. The balance can only be described as superb - there is nothing negative here: overripe fruit meets vanilla, caramel sweetness, dark spices and light roasted aromas. Superb!

14.11.2025 Finishing off the rest of the sample I have and I still like it a lot. ------------ 09.05.2016 Evening out with colleagues and good rums. Notes Light to medium dark colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, ester, banana, overripe, polish, light grass. Palate Warm, spicy, light wood, light roasted, citrus, faint glue, fruitcake, medium dry, banana, ester, overripe. Finish Long, warm, fruity, wood, faint smoke, ester.

Outstanding Hampden and for me one of the best representatives of Jamaica. Intense esters, ripe banana, pineapple and solvent on the nose, followed by vanilla and spicy wood. The palate is enormously powerful, complex and perfectly balanced between fruit, spice and fine smokiness. The alcohol carries the profile without dominating. A great rum, deep, full of character and uncompromisingly Jamaican.

A 1993 Hampden all in finesse and greed. The profile is evolving and offers us in turn all the facets of a great Hampden. I understand why it was so popular at the time when it was a little easier to find.

The best Hampden I've ever drunk... and I've had quite a few. Balanced in every element. Pineapple, solvent, caramel, the right amount of esters! Simply perfect. The finish is monstrous, extremely long, sweet.

After direct pouring, the nose is still somewhat restrained compared to the DT90 and TRC90 26yo. After standing for a few minutes, however, it really shows what it can do. Less sour than the TRC, for example, but a little woodier with the typical ester and hampden aromas. On the palate there is an intense sweetness that is not found in any of the comparative candidates. The alcohol is also excellently integrated and in the background it still has a dirtiness that is not (or no longer) to be found in the older Hampdens. The perfect ageing time for this type of rum. The finish is exceptionally long and intense. An outstanding rum, and for us the crème de la crème among the Hampdens.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".
