New Yarmouth Flensburg Rum Company The Bottle Shop 1994
Toasted coconut, caramel, vanilla and dark chocolate lead here, with roasted nuts, a bit of mint and old, dusty wood behind them. This 1994 New Yarmouth leans spicy and woody rather than fruit-forward, and the near-68% is remarkably well tucked in. Several tasters call it rounder and creamier than the usual high-ester NY94 — a warming, concentrated old Jamaican, not a funk bomb.

22.02.2026 Retasting this rum and I still like it a lot 😊 ----------- This is a very good release. Very fresh yet intense on the nose and palate. Wood and the other elements are very well balanced and the ABV perfectly integrated. If you get the chance you should give this one a try and if you like Jamaican rum and see a bottle, BUY IT!

Very round and intense! 😍 For me the best of the 94 NYs that have over 60%! Really cool stuff! Lots of coconut, roasted almond and caramel with some mint and roasted flavors in the finish. I definitely have to try it in May tai.
Review by Dr.Django
1. tasty, most classic, average, which for a 94NY gives 87 points. A bit sharp 2. Very smooth start, a bit woody, creamy and with lots of coconut. Finish rather short. very smooth compared to the others. 82 3. Very cool start, immediately astringent, very funky in comparison. I like it a lot! 90 4. Could be a sherry finish. so many dark berries, sweet and full-bodied! awesome! 89 5. A mix of everything mentioned so far. Typical NY aromas, a bit astringent, a bit funky, a bit smooth but also a bit sharp at the end. 87 6. Typical NY, which has a bit more citrus fruits in the basket at the end than the others. long warm finish. 88 Resolution: 1: RX9617, COR 2: RX12183, Lime House 3: RX24450, RA #2 4: RX10167, Kill Devil 5: RX12556, Bottleshop 6: RX21637, Vignum Vitae

Strong NY94. Very warming. Otherwise the usual vanilla, wood, milk chocolate spectacle that one is used to from this vintage. Great realization, but also no high-flyer of this extremely consistent Marks.

I first became aware of this great rum at the Village (Pueblo del Ron) 2023 in Nuremberg. Since then it has stayed with me, which is no wonder given its 24 years of tropical maturation. Today I was finally able to try the rum again - a real highlight for Boxing Day! Heavily fruity and spicy at the same time, but the alcohol is perfectly integrated, a real treat. Unfortunately, I need a whole bottle of this 😉.

Today two venerable representatives of their kind: the Excellence Rhum NY 94 compared with the FRC Bottle Shop NY 94. Both spent 27/28 years in cask, both 24 of those in tropical climates, both 67.8% ABV. So it's not surprising that both are initially very similar on the nose, with plenty of coconut, vanilla and cask. The ER maybe leans more towards anise, polish and cake. The FRC tends more towards tropical fruits (papaya), marzipan and candied orange. On the palate I can hardly tell the difference. The high ABV is equally well integrated in both. Overall for me both on the same level.

Extremely round, balanced New Yarmouth. Classic profile of the 94, so lots of sweetness on the nose, plus extremely round on the palate. Great tennis.

An excellent NY! In hindsight, I regret not buying a bottle of it... it's really tasty
Review by Serge
On the nose this NY94 brings nice roasted notes and a great mix of fruits, oak, caramel with spices and polish. Roasted nuts and a bit of mint included. Quite tasty. Would say mid-range of this great vintage.
Review by Oliver
Wow, this one has real power! Beautiful rusty notes with lots of coconut and dark chocolate. Real bad boy... 😎

Another old, beautiful rum. I already like NY anyway and then 24 of 27 years tropical... the whole thing with a hefty nearly 68%... sounds pretty good. Nose: Ohlala, strong and intense, nicely dense aromas. You can sniff over the 68% well. Then you find full spice, a woody-roasty base and lots of set fruit with creamy sweetness. I find blackcurrant, cherry, ripe blackberry, plus sweet lemon and old blood orange with mealy papaya. Plus caramel-cream toffee and milk chocolate with vanilla. Dusty, old wood at the back. Gets more beautiful and round with time. 92 Palate: intense and strong. Clearly astringent and thus also bitter-salty at the start. Seems dark-roasty and almost a bit metallic. But also fruity with lemon peel and sour blackcurrant. Slightly burnt and toasted and fittingly roasted nuts. This slightly bitter tone together with lemon peel also pulls into the finish. Unlike the nose, the palate is a bit too little fruity and harsh for me. 86 Great old NY, where the long tropical aging and high ABV really challenge the palate.
Review by Tschusikowsky
As with most NY94, the music is in the finish. For this one, the mouth is too one-dimensional woody for me. The nose, however, is very inviting.
Review by LukaŽiga
9:On the nose, toasted coconut, roasted wood notes like dark chocolate, nuts, caramel, oaky and spicy, dried apricots and yellow fruits, bump into our nosetrils, very concentrated. On aeration, the molasses is minty, berries, cherries and citrus fruits arise, then very pleasant candied fruits, pastry and brioche, the notes are nicely balanced. 8,9:On the palate, the attack is tasty with toasted coconut, roasted and spicy wood with chocolate, pastry, biscuits, vanilla and allspice, the molasses is herbaceous and minty. Our tasting buds are thrilled with creaminess, marmelade feeling, when tropical fruits join, some esters, when the rum is rested. 9:The finish is long, dry and tannic, slightly metallic, creamy, round and balanced with toasted notes, spicy and fruity with dried fruits, coconut. Perfect alcohol integration👌. Edit:6.12.25

Needs a lot of time to open up. On the nose roasted nuts, vanilla, caramel, spices, wood and sweet popcorn. Overall a rounded 94er NY profile with well integrated alcohol and more spicy/woody notes and a bit less fruit.
Review by Chrischi78
Holymoly and muchas gracias. Fantastico, the tongue and heart jump for joy. Despite high ABV a round, well integrated percent festival with a body like Schwarzenegger in his best days. Complex aromas like a southern European market hall! Nutty, light sweetness and notes of dark chocolate. Ah whatever. It's mega! Many thanks to the girls who create such highlights from sugarcane and fire! I throw you my heart!
Review by Joachim Guger
Typical 94er New Yarmouth profile. Dried fruits, loads of coconut, caramel, nougat and according to the age wood and spices. Great mouthfeel and mega spice bazaar. The nearly 70% are wonderfully integrated, it’s not overpowering either. One of my favorite vintages, it ranks in the upper middle field here and is still a fantastic rum. 😀😀 Thanks to Bonn!🇩🇪

Palate of coconut, chocolate, wood, dried fruits, leather and mint. Long finish dominated by mint, dried fruits and leather. 27-07-2026 - Rate 9.2

Today a tasting with seven bottlings of the 1994 New Yarmouth: Thompson Brothers, Royal Cane, Kill Devil, Rum Sponge, Ron Artesanal, FRC Bottles Shop and Maolt, Grain & Cane. The FRC Bottle Shop is more on the spicy and woody side, less fruity. Still very tasty.
Review by Johannes
This one definitely joins the great series of the 94 NY. Without direct comparison it is of course difficult to judge more differentiated...
Review by Boletus
Really impressive how well the nearly 68% alcohol content is integrated here. As expected, it puts quite a punch on the taste buds, but nothing burns or stings in the mouth at all. You could criticize the rum for consistently carrying the notes from the nose through the mouth and finish without providing a surprise. But why would you do that when the delivered flavor package is so delicious?
Review by Hans-Peter Jank
A real Jamaican rude boy. I am lovin' it. Lots of fruit, coconut, dark chocolate. The alcohol is perfectly integrated. I am really impressed by this bottling. This New Yarmouth is really something special.
Review by Tim
New Yarmouth - until now for me high-ester intense in the face. This rum is something else. Very round with caramel, vanilla, roasted coconut, spices, chocolate - this strongly reminds me of Foursquare. Great rum and personally a real surprise!
Review by Jan Lu
Tasted at the 3rd GAF. For me personally one of the biggest surprises in rum. Jamaica is actually not really my thing. This one convinced me nonetheless. Nice rounded thing. Balanced and slightly peppery.
Review by Nils123
The rum tastes very woody and spicy, but this is balanced again by the fruitiness. With water it becomes a bit creamier and chocolate notes appear, which stay present for a long time in the finish.
Review by Adrian Wahl
For me on the same level as Thompson Bros.
Review by Buddudharma
Great rum, but for me flavor-wise too close to the Spanish style to play in the top league.
Review by TheRhumhoe
The badass profile of the New Yarmouth 1994. The nose is very powerful, ready to send a shock to the nostrils and palate. It starts with a fruity base of coconut and pineapple, then a darker phase on leather, dark chocolate, toasted oak and hot caramel. Glue and spices (chili, vanilla) sharpen the olfactory profile even more, concentrated and as lively as possible. A slight cherry comes after a long aeration. A warm profile ready to fight. It's a big punch in the mouth, like a gustatory explosion that shakes the palate. The fruits are surprisingly present (coconut, pineapple, dried fruits) but it's mainly the combination of spices (chili, vanilla), oak and dark notes that dominate here: roasted flavors, toast, dark chocolate, leather, roasted nuts and mocha pour with crazy intensity in the mouth. Time gives it some openness but you feel the power heating up and that it's a tough profile. The finish is very long, toasted, warmly spiced and chocolaty. You find the sweet pattern that softens everything a bit, the roasted and fruity notes, but the surprise comes from a very discreet hint of menthol in the background. A very well-crafted profile that releases all the power and potential of New Yarmouth. Watch out for sensitive palates though.

NY94, great piece, really very tasty
Review by Jacques etdom
A massive nose, with a huge coconut oil, fruits, a slight solvent... makes you want it! The palate is intense, still on this grilled coconut, vanilla, milk chocolate, a beautiful woodiness, spices and fruit. Beautiful finish that makes you want to dive back in immediately. Dangerously good rum! Ah, these New Yarmouth 94 are really addictive!
Review by Agricoler
Very tasty 94 New Yarmouth. I find it very barrel-heavy but in a positive sense. That means not too much fruit, which it doesn't need. Simply great coconut with plenty of caramel and vanilla and nice spice.
Review by Mentalo
Great 1994 New Yarmouth from Flensburg Rum Company. Coconut, (milk) chocolate, nice wood notes, fruity and spicy. All harmoniously balanced with a pleasant sweetness. Alcohol is well integrated.
Review by TheJackDrop
A bit too coconut/spices for me, but very good and some notes of tea.
Review by kargoles
A beautiful aromatic structure all in roundness and power. A well-present nose on coconut, vanilla, a somewhat heavy fatty side but lightened by a menthol note and slight wood. On the palate a big power of all the aromas previously discovered on the nose mainly focusing on coconut. A rather medium-long and quite pleasant length.
Review by Josef Barot
Noble tasty NY strong coffee tones slightly bitter finish that turns sweet
Review by Stijn Zino
Nice color. The nose is there but rather closed. The mouth is extremely creamy and it keeps sticking to your palate that gives a nice long finish. Nice rum but can't defend this price tag. I had better New Yarmouth's.
Review by Michal Jurka
The usual DNA of NY94, it just can't dissapoint.

A bomb! One of the best rums I've ever drunk!!! Very indulgent, coconut again and again, caramel vanilla, fruits, a light woodiness! An endless finish! The alcohol is very well integrated! Thanks to Jacques Etdom for making me discover this madness!

Vintage 1994. I rate it 8.9 out of 10, an excellent rum that ranks high even among my more than 1,300 ratings.

Similar to Guyana, but less spicy, lots of barrel and vanilla.

20/07/2025: tasted at 1st BYOB party with friends. The color is the first thing that stands out. This one needs time in the glass to open up. The palate is nice and creamy/buttery with a decent finish. Not my favorite New Yarmouth I ever tasted, and therefore I think the price is too high.
Review by Richard Krupa
Sweeter piece, coconut, nicely integrated alcohol (I wouldn't have said so much) and a medium-long pleasant finish.
Review by Pavel Spacek
Beautifully sweet, creamy, like caramel. A great choice for rum lovers who want to move from sweet syrups to pure distillate. New Yarmouth 1994 rarely disappoints. This is a great choice you'll always gladly return to.
Review by MarcT
I started this review somewhere around Christmas and then got sick, so quite sone time passed for me to revisit this sample. There has not been much going on regarding rum at all in the tine between, but this does not mean the interest is gone. This one is quite good, it is intense in nose and on the tongue, if not prepared the alcohol does bite. Very prominent roasted cask and wood influence, along with caramel ald dark chocolate. A little bit of after eight for a short moment. Not for every day but to enjoy, it requires and deserves attention.
