Made for people already deep into old tropical-aged Jamaica: this 1995 Clarendon EMB, 27 years and 23 of them in the tropics, is all peach, menthol and cedar. Tasters find dried blood orange, licorice and roasted oak, with a long minty finish. At 65.6% it needs air, but most say the alcohol sits surprisingly well once it opens. One reviewer's palate just wasn't ready for the heavy wood.

Mature Clarendon with a strong profile. Fermented fruit, banana, warm woody spice and a slightly earthy note on the nose, plus peach. Dense and dry on the palate, again with distinct peach, oak, black tea, mint and a fine bitterness that fits well into the profile. All in all, a complex Clarendon with a strong character that has nothing to hide in the overall ranking of the 95/97 vintages.

Wonderful Calippo Cola on the nose - unfortunately extremely woody/spicy and alcoholic on the palate. The 23y tropical aging may have been too much of a good thing..... Unfortunately not mine at all

Tropical ageing, aromatic complexity - this is the complete package. You have to like the Jamaican style, no question, but the massive depth of the 95 Clarendons is simply impressive. The release impresses with its balance, which may seem a little unusual in view of the aromatic power, but is recognizable in direct comparison. Exquisite.

A bold EMB. Very woody, floral and mentholated. Very elegant and multi-faceted, with a light cassis and peach iced tea note. As well as some pencil and mint. Alcohol extremely well integrated. Definitely one of the best 1995 EMBs to date imho!

3rd place of my Clarendon 1995 EMB tasting😬😉🫨🤤 Nose: Very fruity, classic EMB i would say, with a delicious note of peaches ducked in menthol🫨 Mouth: Classic EMB notes with a hint of lavender, peaches, citrus and mocha. Finish: Long and a crazy mit between minty, licorice and fruity notes (peaches, pineapples, mango, lime) The alcohol is integrated very well.

Another excellent EMB 95! Lots of tropical fruits such as papaya, mango and peach fill the nose. From memory, I would say that the FRC is a touch more 'mentholy-metallic' than the RA and the RC, but absolutely on a par with both.

I was so lucky to try this one because I didn't get a bottle and now it's kind of expensive. A really good rum with all the Clarendon flavours. The fruit is very light but combined with the light floral note it feels wonderful on the palate. Intense and lightly dry and I love the roasted wood notes. Draws nice curtains and the flavours intensify in the empty glass over time.

27 years old and tropically matured for 23 years! A 95 EMB! Super good 😊 Nose: powerful but harmonious, intense and wonderfully round. A great spicy-fruity cloud of aromas flows out of the glass. Old, dried blood orange with sweetish lemon, plus a mixture of sour cherry, blackcurrant, gooseberry and mealy banana. Framed in old cedar wood with some wood acidity, very slightly vinegar and rounded off with cream toffee, maple syrup and a round hint of liquorice. Wow. 91 Palate: Insane. Intense, powerful and once again totally round. Everything fits together well. Great flavor curve: initially slightly astringent and bitter, then somewhat metallic and salty, before intensely fruity lemon peel, lime, kumquat and finally apricot take over. It is woody at first and becomes increasingly minty at the back. The alcohol is well integrated 91 This rum is convincing across the board.

Oh! How I love this rum! Tasted as a sample. The nose is insanely complex and super pleasant. I get a polished, waxed, varnished woodiness. Tons of fruits: mango, peach, papaya, passion fruit. Lots of fresh menthol and tangy candy. The palate is very much like a typical menthol peach blackcurrant TDL, keeping the mango/passion fruit. A bigger sip brings out some bitterness/tannin and a bit of glue. Very long finish.

An enchanting nose of overripe fruit, oak and freshness. On the palate, flavors explode with esters, overripe fruit and supportive oak. The finish is incredibly long, with sweetness and fruit. Probably not the best Clarendon, but definitely a magnificent rum.

Then there were 3 grenades and no crap :) Super strong Clarendon, lots of wood on the nose, also quite roasted, as well as peach and tropical fruits. On the palate lots of wood at the start, if you let it sit a bit, then mostly mint/menthol.

Powerful, harmonious nose with blood orange, cedarwood, toffee and licorice. On the palate intense, round, fruity with citrus, apricot, peach and mint. Perfectly integrated alcohol. 92 points – great!

👃 Immediately a clear note of iced peach accompanied by mango and papaya. Then a slight menthol veil. Some floral essences. The 27 years in cask make this dram complex and silky. Candied oranges, cinnamon, candied fruits, nice Christmas cake. Leaving it to rest, a sweet aspect appears on buttery caramel leaning towards melted licorice. 😋 It's dense and condensed. Multiple citrus (orange, kumquat, lemon) define a tangy aspect on the 'tête brûlée' candy. The bite of alcohol gives birth to a very lively menthol, almost like on the TDL 2001. A big fresh mint leaf crushes on the palate and in the throat. A bit of glue and astringency. A very pleasant texture. ⛳ Long, where you can search with your tongue for flavors of old wood chips mixed with tropical fruits, mint, licorice and camphor. 💡 I love old Clarendon, this one is an excellent representative. Powerful, complex, evolving, fruity. An excellent Jamaican low ester.

What did I just drink? Something incredible from start to finish. I absolutely love that peach and mint aroma. The palate evolves beautifully, revealing a whole palette of flavors, and the finish is wonderfully long. Nose: Peach, papaya, tea, minty, glue. Palate: Wood, minty, herbal, peach, dry, intense, chocolate. Finish: Long, dry, minty, tea, mango, barrel, wood, warm. The perfect ending to a home tasting :)

Also a great representative of the 1995 EMB vintage. Compared to the Velier 2010, better integrated alcohol, more wood and a somewhat more pronounced menthol note, which is not disturbing. Slightly rounder, but less oily in consistency than the Rumclub 1995, but overall on a comparable level. Hopefully many more bottlings from this vintage will follow! 23.12.25: After multiple tastings from a "large sample" I have to raise two points here. This is really a very good cask selection.

Clarendon 95, everything is said or almost. I love it, for me the pinnacle of what Jamaica has to offer in my taste. The balance between esters, wood and indulgence, all rounded by age. This one is not necessarily as good as some direct competitors but remains excellent, available and reasonably priced. So it's a purchase you don't regret for a second!

95er EMBs are simply a guarantee of top quality. Peach iced tea with strong mint, which sometimes tends towards menthol. The cask influence is perfect, just like the alcohol integration.

The 1995 Clarendon from Flensburg is noticeably woodier and slightly bitter. Still very complex, but other 1995s are better balanced in my opinion. Alcohol also not well integrated, but that's often the case with Clarendon. Still, the 1995 remains an exceptional vintage.

Nose: V&M > RA > RC = FSB-BS The lower ABV bottling presents the more fruity and peasant nose straight up. Others significantly more heavy, dark and sharp. Palate: [Velier] > RA > RC > FSB-BS > V&M On the palate I have to give it to the higher proof combatants as they are all properly evil in what they do. However, imho V&M bottled their cask at the exact right ABV to enjoy the EMB right from the bottle.

Today, the two heavyweights Clarendon EMB 1995 from The Bottleshop and CoR in a direct comparison... and neither of them disappoints. For me, it's a clear tie.. on the nose, the Bottleshop is a bit softer and has a bit more menthol in the finish. The CoR is a bit edgier and more direct... but in the end, the aromas are almost identical. The 95 Clarendons just remain legendary

On the nose: Woody, roasted, minty and light fruity notes like plums at first. Once the rum opens up you get light tropical fruits like papayas and mangoes with pencil shaving notes in there aswell. Taste: Intense with woody notes, minty notes, menthol notes, light dried fruit notes with slightly dirty and bitter mouthfeel at first. Light notes of peaches here and there. Light cocoa notes and black tea notes in the end. Pencil shavings notes come in after the rum has been sitting in the glass. Excellent integration of alcohol. Finish: Black tea notes, woody notes, minty notes and menthol notes. Dry and slightly bitter. Long finish. If you like the EMB profile, i think you should definitely check out this rum. I thought I had already tasted this one, but thanks to Tobi I got to enjoy it again. As with the other Clarendons from this vintage, very high quality. It's still not my favorite profile, but the peach note in the profile here pushes it to another level.

Rating with reservations ... was one of the last rums tasted after a long day at the fair. But I am (almost) certain that this is the same rum as the Tara bottling. You'd have to try it side by side. Like all 1995 EMB rums, it's terrific

👃 = Bright and warm aromas of ripe fruits like orange, peach, and banana with pepper, woodiness, vanilla, a bit of wax, as well as citrusy and herbal notes.. 👄 = The liveliness of the alcohol is always present on the palate but very well integrated. With a slight fattiness, dried fruits and burnt caramel are added. The long finish is warm, spicy, a bit mineral and bitter. What a rich and powerful Clarendon from 1995 at the top 👌

A really good EMB 1995, like all bottlings of this vintage this rum is driven by the barrel with an almost burnt smell and taste that goes along with tropical fruits and glue. The nose is Amazing while the palate loses a couple of points not harming an overall High evaluation

I found this rum hard to access. It definitely has an intense cask influence with herbs, spices, and wood. Fruits are certainly present, but not the typical ester bombs like pineapple, banana, or apple, rather citrus. On the palate and finish, it becomes definitively spicy, dark, herbal, woody, bitter, cocoa. I perceive the fruits more in the background. Not quite so round, but fits an EMB.

The nose is intense, rich, and evolves as the rum breathes. Wood, menthol notes, ripe yellow fruits. Engaging. The alcohol is initially biting. Then the palate is seized by a powerful bitterness. Fruits, menthol, then delicate fruits. I feared the 65°, but after the first sip, they are not disturbing. The woodiness is extremely well integrated. It works very well!

My first review slightly expanded. I had it at 9.2, today I'm at 9.1 because the mint and menthol notes seem stronger to me. Might also be due to the new bottle. Nice nose also with fruit. The palate is very round as well, I like the finish best. Nice soft and long-lasting.

What an awesome bottling! Super tasty juice, reminds me of a great TDL. The best Clarendon I've tasted so far. I need a full bottle.

An intense nose of citrus, mango and other ripe exotic fruits. Burnt cane sugar also stands out. An explosion on the palate. Wow, it's intense. The same markers as on the nose, but multiplied. On the finish, quite a bit of wood and a little bitterness. The little bite of the alcohol and the peppery edge enhance the whole even more. Nice length, you stay with it for a while. Truly a little bomb. Well done.

Tasted at the GAF. Intense with lots of barrel influence. Needs air. Lots of pepper and burnt to charred notes. Plus peach and herbs. Mint also comes through. Fun, but needs time in the glass.
