Collectors chasing old Puerto Rican bottlings are the real audience here — as a rum to drink, it underwhelms. The nose is the best part: wood, vanilla, burnt caramel, a little dried fruit and dark chocolate. Then the palate turns thin and dry, spirit-forward with cask spice and tobacco, and the finish disappears fast. One taster even hunted for the rum in a daiquiri and couldn't find it.

6:On the nose, the first impression we get is pleasant with tropical fruits, the wood gives us a caramel, it comes a bit alcoholic, there are also some apples, pears. 4,7:On the palate, the attack is thin, bitter and alcoholic with sweet, burnt sugar, a but smoky, there are some spices, fruits and a tobacco. 5:The finish is quite short and dry, alcoholic with burnt sugar, caramel, wood spice and citrus, tobacco.

06.12.2024 The liquid History of Puerto Rico Tasting First of all, many thanks to Artur for the extreme effort and for sharing such old rums at all. The rums themselves were not really spectacular except for a few exceptions, BUT I still really enjoyed it because such rums are no longer accessible to ordinary mortals, and all the background knowledge Artur shared I find insanely interesting. I really tip my hat to that. Huge respect!

Tasting of Puerto Rico rums by Artur. A lively nose with caramel, fruits, a mineral side and vegetal notes. The palate is very disappointing with aromas too faint, sweetness and a strong alcohol presence. The finish is short with neutral alcohol at the end and few aromas. After a quite nice nose, the rest is very far from the premium rum it is supposed to be.

Puerto Rico Set Nr. 13: Very Woody and dry in the nose with some dried fruits in the background. Less caramel / sweet sensation on the nose versus the DonQs so far in the lineup. On the palate also dominated by wood. Some sweetness but mostly dry with some cask spices. A bit rough on the edges. Cheers to Artur for curating this set!

Arturs Puerto Rico Tasting, thanks for the great overview and history :-) Now three Bacardi Gold Reserve in comparison. Clearly darker, tobacco, burnt sugar, light pepper notes. I like it, but a bit thin.

The liquid History of Puerto Rico Tasting No. 13 - very alcoholic on the nose, alongside wood/barrel and vanilla, a bit nutty. Not as watery as the DonQ's anymore. Alcohol on the palate and finish is okay.

Solid and well-rounded rum, with a slightly overpriced tag 😅 black pepper, dark chocolate, burnt caramel, pleasant viscosity. I can well imagine it with a cigar if you're into that.
