I have tried a lot of these Extreme versions and they mostly perform really well. This one does too. Fruity with nice smoky wood. The palate is warm and the ABV is perfectly integrated in my mind. Leave to rest for a while before having a go to release all the flavours. The empty glass has the most wonderful aromas 😊

Probably the best 2000 Rockley for me. Awesome honey & smoke note, intense and slightly fruity. Very cool! I particularly like this fine saltiness, as if you had sprinkled salt flakes over caramelized honey bananas and then smoked the whole thing lightly with sandalwood.

I didn't like the continental-aged 2000 Rockley from RA at all: tar, grain and rotting fish. It was too much for me. This tropically aged 2000 'Vulcan Still' rum does have similarities, but runs on a completely different quality level. A vegetal smokiness jumps out at me, reminiscent of green tea, saffron and toasted sesame seeds, along with an incredible sweetness and fruitiness. The vegetal, tart smokiness continues in the mouth as well - with a cereal note reminiscent of whiskey. There's also creme brulee: buttery, vanilla, caramel. The mouthfeel is perhaps a bit thin, but wonderfully balanced and very complex in its combination of sweetness and herbal. Somewhat reminiscent of the 2004 Fijis. The finish is unfortunately somewhat unspectacular and short.

Follow-up to yesterday's Rum Depot Tasting: the rest of the Plantation poured in comparison with the Cave Guildive WIRD 2000. Both with a smoky-peaty undertone, plus the Rockley honey note. With the Plantation, however, I still have fruity notes towards nectarine or mango and vanilla. The CG, on the other hand, seems a bit more one-dimensional and also a bit biting. The higher ABV (56%) of the CG does not work to its advantage. On the palate, the signs are reversed. The Plantation with its 47.8% unfortunately seems a bit thin (just like the RA WIRD 2000). Because of the class nose, however, the Plantation remains my winner

Reminds me in the nose of cinnamon Honey Loops from whole wheat. Dark chocolate with wood and dried fruit on the palate. Gentle, warm finish.

Here you can already recognize the typical Rockley DNA. But it does not come close to the rum Artesanal 2000.

Very versatile nose. After a while in the glass walnut comes in. On the palate, the rum unfortunately does not appear as multifaceted as the nose promises. The finish is relatively short and unspectacular.

A very good Barbados WIRD! I like the profile! At cask strength he should probably be excellent!Surprising I found the relatively short finish

Great Rockley-style profile with honey, smoke, tea, wood, as well as subtle tropical fruit and fine minerality. This is also maintained on the palate, but unfortunately the reduced alcohol strength has a detrimental effect here and is reflected in a diluted profile. Too bad, because basically a great aromatic spectrum is offered here.

The nose is rather elegant but restrained! There are notes of honey, smoke, tobacco, pear and vanilla! The palate is creamy/gourmand but lacks power. There are hints of vanilla, wood, smoke and a touch of olive. The finish is very long, with peppery chocolate and bitter almond. It doesn't leave anyone indifferent, as Ma Lau also found it interesting even though David hadn't even finished his glass! This WIRD 2000 has an atypical profile, as it is very smoky. I find it better than Rum Artesanal's WIRD 2000, but it's not worth the €300 asked for it. Thank you David for hosting us this afternoon and for sharing these little pleasures with us.

I absolutely loved this Barbados Extreme 2000 from the first tasting during Boston Rum Week. And then the next, and the next, and the next... It has something unique to it, with mixing those pastry/buttery notes with the smoke. Is it the Gregg and Vulcan influence but the bending is marvelous! To be tried despite its high price.

"This is not a bad offering. You get the typical aroma of 2000 wird. But it really feels thin on the palate and a bit too alcoholic on the palate. The only really extreme thing of this bottling is the price..."
