#6487 14.03.2026 Running a double set of samples today finishing up with the sweeter ones. The music is blasting on spotify with Kova, Avalon, Akushiya and Omiki. The nose is pretty nice and round with fruits and caramel as well as nice anise. The palate is round with roasted wood, caramel, mango and anise. The finish is light and oily with wood, anise and mango.

I was keen to try this to get a better sense of a classic Port Mourant - no blend, no cask finish, aged a good amount. Also, after listening to the RumCast episode interviewing John Barratt of Bristol Classics I reckoned he knows how to pick a good PM from DDL. I am not disappointed. Nose: Fruity - in the peaches, pear, plum, melon space. Baking spices and nuts. Palate: There is a whiskey-esk aspect to begin with but not in a negative way (I generally dislike whisky flavours in rum). Then burnt sugar, orange peel, espresso, butterscotch and pastries. Finish: Orange peel and espresso. Also, the profile has certainly developed with a little time and air in the bottle. Earlier on it seemed deeper and richer. On tasting at this point is has more high-notes.
