CDI Boulet de Canon 12
Smoke, peat and ash hit first — this is a Compagnie des Indes rum built for whisky drinkers, with reviewers naming Lagavulin-style casks behind the honey, hazelnut, herbs and cigar. Fans call it the "most balanced" peated BdC yet; others find the peat swallows everything ("pure ashtray, not for me"). At 46%, more experiment than easy sipper.

From community reviews · summarized with AI
Heavily peated, whisky-cask rum for Islay fans Divides drinkers cleanly: peated-whisky fans love the smoke, ash and honey balance, while anyone cool on peat finds it too much. Best if you already like Islay malts.

Interesting experiment; if you like single malts like Laphroaig, Caol Ila or Lagavulin, you should try this. In the mouth cold smoke, peat, ash, herbs, damp earth. Where the whisky cask ends and the rum blend begins I cannot say.

Very intense. Pure ashtray. Not for me.

Absolutely great for whisky fans. Beautiful peat, cigar and herbal/nutty notes with a slight spiciness and acidity like pink pepper and balsamic. The rum adds nice honey and hazelnut/vanilla notes. Overall quite harmonious but you have to like whisky. I still find it a little lacking in complexity, perhaps an older or stronger rum would have been more exciting as a base. In this case, Lagavulin casks were used.

As a whisky drinker, I always enjoy having a smoky BdC in the glass. From memory, I would even say that No. 12 is my favorite so far. Nice smoke, bacon, pear, wood, vanilla, honey and herbs. A few more percent and it would have even made it into the 8s.

#7317 17.09.2026 Relaxing with a few samples after work while checking out a new TV series about cold cases on HBO. This is one of the better Boulet de Canon releases and the price tag is also OK: Smoky profile with fruits, spice, leather, roasted wood, peat, herbs, honey, tobacco, salt and a dry palate.

Extremely smoky, a bit of honey. Quite a successful Cdi

Even though I am not a fan of smoky rum, this one is quite ok.

In the smell even like stool. Taste of smoky, watered-down peat whisky

The most balanced BdC ever released 🔥

"To re-taste In summary, my tasting notes: Nose: Peat, Whisky Palate: Smoky Finish rather oriented towards: Cigar" Clearly a nice range at Compagnie des Indes and often without added sugar, I generally like that.
Review by Benjamin Perez
Very pleasant, surprising because of its peaty side which is well balanced overall and not cloying!
Review by Arnaud Faverjon
The peat takes over too much, making it hard to appreciate these peated rums overall.
