Most tasters put this near the top of the Hampden 1993s they've had — "tropical fruit bomb," lots of ester, pineapple, glue and a creamy texture. A couple of drinkers found the acidity too much, calling out a sour, briny "old roast fat" edge. Continental aging, so brighter and sharper than tropical-matured Hampden. One reviewer says the aroma fills the room.

Brine, old cooking fat, nail polish remover, fermented fruit. What doesn't sound very tempting is a finely balanced, highly complex wealth of aromas that make up a high-quality rum. Astringency just tolerable, but too much acidity in the finish for me. Therefore not top of the league for me.

For me, unfortunately, quite borderline. Extremely high acidity, salty and greasy (Gunnar meant roast fat 😃), fermented and overripe, olive brine, pineapple fruit vinegar and quite umami. Overall just not my cup of tea, too bad. No idea what was different here compared to other '93 and '92 vintages...

Great fireworks. Creamy texture like the other world-class Hampdens. Strikes just the right balance between acidity, fruit and esters. Super elegant, light-footed rum. Slightly metallic notes on the finish.

Up to now, I haven't been able to do much with most continentally matured Hampdens or Jamaicans from the 90s (in relation to the price) and have a preference for tropically matured ones. But this one tastes quite good to me and is definitely one of the better/best I've tried. Reminds me of the Salon du Rhum, which I also found very cool.

Really nice Hampden with a great complexity, a lot of wood, grilled meat and grilled fruits. In the aftertaste the fruits are getting a bit fresher (pears and apple juice). Shout out to Tom and Quent :)

Tasted alongside the Salon Du Rhum HD 1993 (RX11797). For me, both are absolute grenades and among the best Hampdens I've had in my glass so far. I couldn't make out any serious differences during the tasting.

16.09.2022 Going through samples at home. Notes Light in colour. Nose Intense, faint wood, faint smoke, fruity, overripe, banana, faint cherry, spice, ester. Palate Intense, faint wood, ester, fruity, overripe, banana, light polish, medium dry. Finish Very long and warm, light wood, fruity, ester, medium dry, pineapple. Extra note. Needs to rest for a good while or add a few drops of water.

Great creamy mouthfeel. Tropical fruit bomb, lots of esters, decent wood notes, olive. In the end, however, it bothers me that it simply has too much acidity. So far, all bottlings from the 1993 vintage that I've had in my glass have had this problem. Although the Whisky Jury bottling here is a little "milder" than the one from Salon du Rhum, for example

In a spontaneous comparison today there were a few candidates from 1993 in the pot. First of all, there was no real loser, all at a very high level. In the end, it's only personal nuances that could differ on another day. My personal ranking would be 1. RX12618 2. RX12648 3. RX11797 4. RX11400

Heavenly nose. In addition to the expected tropical fruit basket, this C<>H also has this slightly medicinal pear note on the nose (I can't describe it any better), which I already liked so much about the CoR <>H and which was somewhat lacking in the RX271. On the nose it is simply incredibly round, balanced and complex, there is a lot to discover here. The impression of the nose is confirmed on the palate. Here, too, this C<>H reminds me of the CoR 2013 <>H, but again rounder, more balanced and also a little more complex than the CoR, but with a little less brine and generally tamer. The finish is long with lots of tropical fruit, brine and medicinal pear. Compared to RX271, this TWJ is definitely ahead for me, as it is simply more interesting and even more complex for me due to the more brine and medicinal pear. A really great rum, even if it's not really cheap.

To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of Jamaican rum. But this really is a wonderful Hampden. Lots of tropical fruit, funky, oily, balanced. I think the bottle is also hard to find. If you have the chance, try it. It's worth it.

... Hampden, legendary Jamaican distillery, which besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery you feel wild esters, after which your whole body soaks in the scent of yellow tropical fruit - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums that "must try before die".

14/01/2026: tasting at home. Very high quality continental Hampden with a complex nose and palate. Great balance between sweet, sour, fruits and esters. Although I almost always prefer tropical aging over continental, this is a crazy flavour bomb! Try it when you get the chance.

Supertasting with some good friends. Very complex nose: lots of citrus, big in fruit with your typical Hampden profile but also pear, nice balance. Palate: fruit with extra orange, meaty umami. Finish: medium Great rum from start to finish 10/10 for the nose. When pouring the glass the aroma fills the room. ABV very well integrated, easy sipping and very enjoyable. Can't defend the price tag unfortunately.
