Nose is reminiscent of other young PMs with wood and some continental fruits. Starts off with intense burnt notes. Some herbs with anis. A hint of chocolate appears over time. On the palate I get some acidity which I attribute to the high proof. However, the taste is surprisingly sweet with toffee and raisins which show up unexpectedly. Don’t take this wrong, this is very powerful and demanding stuff, far off from crowd pleasing sweetness of course. While this is the first AW I had in the glas I’m somewhat intrigued by the profile. Happy to explore some more bottlings. On the first go, SBS and the Nectar feel pretty similar. The latter maybe a little less sweet with more chocolate rather than toffee. Alcohol noticeable in both bottlings.

This is crying out for something sweet to round it off - caramel, sugar, literally any fruit (preferably dark) to help round off the sharpness that’s almost borderline bitter There’s no flavour here at all - if someone has the palate to enjoy this then power to them…. Personally it feels like a very expensive cocktail mixer An utter dud

It comes across as quite fresh, but knows how to please both the nose and the palate. Despite the higher alcohol strength compared to the Sample X Albion bottling, it is less excessive; there is no question that the over 60% is recognizable, but at no point does it take away from the tropical fruit notes, the spices and the light caramel notes to make their own appearance. A solid bottling, but nowhere near comparable to the tropical aged Albions.

Today I tasted the two Albions from S.B.S and the Nectar against each other! Both are almost identical on the nose...but on the palate there are differences! The Nectar is creamier, softer and rounder, although the alcohol is not as well integrated as in the SBS. The mixture of fruit. I find the blend of fruit, spice and vegetal notes much more pleasing here, and it also convinces me with its better intensity on the finish. The clear winner for me!

The alcohol could have been better integrated into the profile because it bites even when rested. Adding a bit of water opens up the profile a bit and it gets more fruity. I like the smoky wood in the palate mixed with dried fruit and some light caramel. Dry on the palate and finish.

Another 2012 Guyana. The lightest after the Bellamys and the Barikenn. On the nose... oops, does the rum have a nose? I can hardly find it. Not after 10 minutes, not after 48 hours in a covered glass. Fruit brandy, some light spice, some quince (use green apple as a substitute), maybe something like cooked rice and ence. I have the unaged PM from SBS in the glass at the same time - it's more expressive. After the very disappointing nose, it's not so bad in the mouth. Yellow stone fruit, more vanilla, milk chocolate, a hint of aniseed, more intense than expected. Alcohol integration is just ok. Compared to the unaged PM, the mouthfeel of the AM is much smoother and fruitier. The finish is also quite ok - without any off-notes, intense again in the mouth, boring like the nose. This is one of the worst single casks I have ever tasted. It has nothing to do with the other 2012s - this rum is so immature that I prefer to drink the unaged PM.

Very cognac nose. Olive. Anise. Acidic fruits. On the palate, interesting profile but alcohol very present. Iodized. Woody. Caramelized. Vegetal. Earthy. The alcohol remains too present.

This is a solid rum, with pleasant apple, pear, and anise notes. Nose: Fruity, fresh, and atypical for an Albion character. Palate: Fruity and alcoholic, with notes of cream toffee and green pepper. Finish: Medium-long, dry, slightly furry and fruity. The alcohol could be better integrated, but overall, this is a good rum that pairs nicely with a light cigar.

Unfortunately, I cannot recognize anything of the typical Albion profile, because of course the tropical maturation is missing. Guyana is clearly recognizable. I would probably have blindly assessed it as a young PM97. Overall too young, alcohol not really well integrated.

Tasted with The Nectar 2012 Albion, against which - for me - it has the edge. A little fatter, spicier and sweeter on the nose and in the mouth. Also slightly oilier. These are my first Albions. I think there's still room for improvement ... can stay in the barrel a little longer.

A new boring tasting session with young pot still single cask Guyanese rums. Kill Devil 12y, 61,1% Barikenn 8y, 63,3% The Nectar 10y, 62,5% SBS 10y, 64,6% C: W wine N: 5min in and this is pure coastal saltiness. Nasty rum and most likely not aged in the tropics. God, I love these young continental pot still Guyanese, I find then bold, pure distillate, no cask, minimal angel’s share. After a while I get lime and a blend of red apples and celery, petrol fumes and off course oysters. M: In your face natural blend of sweet lime and apple juice. Not complex but still it ends with floral notes and ester. How can a rum with such nasty and salty nose become so sweet? I love this! F: Gentle smoke and sweet B: Yes. Why boring? Every rum brings something slightly different, but I like them all.

A modern "Albion" I guess. Its good. Bright and sour. Reminds me some brighter enmores. Nothing you need to try hard to seek and buy. טעימה עיוורת לא רע. האמת קשה להגיד אפילו שזה גיאנה. בהיר מאוד. תפוח. יש קצת סוכריות וליקריש כזה. מינראלי. עורי. זה מצד אחד שונה ומורכב ומצב אחר מרגיש צעיר ומאוד אלכוהולי. לא רואה סיבה לחפש רום כזה להוסיף לאוסף.

Nose rather soft and fruity (pear, white grape) once the alcohol dissipates. Palate animated by a nice liveliness and complemented by woodiness and caramel. Unfortunately, the finish is rather short. The alcohol could be better integrated, even if I don't find it unpleasant (warm side). Bottle a bit expensive but could be interesting at a lower price on the secondary market.

Read full review ›A not uninteresting rum that reminds me strongly of the one young PM. Vorallem the pear / apple note and the slight acidity brings me this style in memory. Here, in my opinion, with a little more maturation would have been significantly more possible. The alcohol could also be more elegantly integrated. So it remains a young Guyana Rum with interesting moments, but remains below its potential.
