Hampden The Nectar Of The Daily Drams DOK 2021

Hot glue, solvents and overripe banana straight out of the glass — this is Hampden's DOK mark unaged at 60%, so it hits medicinal and phenolic before the fruit lands. Underneath there's pineapple, red-fruit bubblegum and a smoky, ashy finish with a touch of anise. A few tasters wish the alcohol were better tucked in, and some expected more raw funk. Works both as a sipper and in a daiquiri.

Exciting and extremely fruity nose. Lots of red fruits, a little bit of yellow banana, squashed grapes and pineapple juice turned sour. Structures from raw honey, citrusy juniper and olive brine. The DOK is obviously brutally medicinal: hot glue, solvents and phenolic smoke and ash. Red fruit bubblegum on the palate. More raw honey, now accompanied by sugarcane and green, dry earth notes. It’s lightly woody and ashy. More glue, more solvents, more phenol. Chamomile tea at the end into fresh flowers. The finish is smoky and ashy with red fruits and aniseed. Like most whites in this category, this is very interesting and has applications both as a mixer and a sipper.

Typical DOK profile. Overripe fruit meets umami notes reminiscent of bacon and beef jerky. Also solid in the daiquiri. But just no over DOK.... Especially overall not very much fruit and a bit too much phenol and nail polish remover.... there's better! Slowly it's enough then also with the ester Mark at least in the unaged area...

I'm starting to appreciate this more with every sip. There is so much going on. A delicious contrast between fruity, savoury and spicy.

Passable unstored DOK, but in comparison with the RDL White DOK (RX10371) a wallflower 😉.

In comparison with RX5674: “fresher” and more citrusy. Glue and solvents, pineapple even a bit of bubblegum that reminds me a bit of HERR (not as good though).

DOK? In der Nase, ja. Geschmacklich, eher nein. Wo ist der Funk? Taugt vielleicht zum Mischen. Für Esterfans, die das DOK Erlebnis suchen eine Enttäuschung.

As expected, a lot of esters. I don't find the alcohol inclusion so elegant.
