Uitvlugt S.B.S Guyana ICBU 1998
Chocolate, roasted wood and coffee up front, with dried fruit and a caramel edge underneath — a darker, drier Guyana than the demerara syrup you might expect from the ICBU mark. Most tasters find it pleasant and well-composed, but two things come up again and again: the body reads thin, and the alcohol never fully settles in despite 24 years in the cask.

How does Uitvlugt S.B.S Guyana ICBU 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 38 community reviews.
Cocoa-and-wood Guyana, thin and a bit hot A likeable, wood-and-cocoa Uitvlugt that most rate in the low 80s. The recurring gripe: it drinks thin and a touch hot, with the alcohol not quite integrated for its age.

Now already tasted several times on different days (my only ICBU), is still not more to get out of this rum - it remains a rum in the lower 80 points range. While on the nose in the later course nice walnut notes peek out of the initial sweetness, the rum can not really convince me on the palate: As crazyforgoodbooze already wrote here, the rum seems strangely thin and alcoholic at the same time. This ICBU is not bad, but also truly no sensation. Conclusion: for the relatively high price of at least 200 EUR, there are clearly better rums. Too bad.

A very light color, a nose dominated by alcohol, with wood, varnish, banana and a light encaustic. The alcohol is better integrated on the palate, but the aromas don't really develop. Despite the high ABV, there's a sense of dilution, with ghostly aromas of varnished wood, stale rose and a few tropical fruits that linger for a long time. The empty glass exudes encaustic wood. It's as if the bartender had replaced the bottled rum with neutral alcohol so as not to get caught.

This is a pretty good Uitvlugt and the price matches the quality. Dried fruit and roasted wood stands perfectly next to nuts, chocolate and some coffee notes.

Very sweet and greedy profile on the nose. One could believe in a Ron. Coffee, chocolate, wood.In the mouth, it's very soft and round, with a bitterness brought by coffee or dark chocolate.Finish on the same notes.Good, but quite effete finally. I expected much more expressive.

Review by Jakob
Can not convince me completely. Keeps despite the long aging time still a fresh green note, in addition join sweetness and especially spices. The wood is primarily noticeable through smokiness, which also gives the rum some bitterness. Unfortunately, the alcohol is not completely integrated, but also therefore not completely convincing for me.

Review by Filip Šikula

Vcelku prijemny rum , nasladla vube s tropickymi a korenenymi tony. Lepsi ho nechat trosku nadechnout potom vyleze vice chuti a vubi. Konec je stredne dlouhy

the nose is on the nutty side combined with caramel and herbal notes. On the palate more bitterness and dominant wood. Still nicely balanced and well integrated abv. Nice rum, but as we know, nice is the little sister of…

Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Does not really pick me up somehow, seems slightly watered down and yet slightly alcoholic.

Guyana je prostě moc dobrá
Review by Jindrich Strobl
Balanced, dry, nice wooden notes. Just enough strong. Excellent!
Review by Serge
Review by Johannes
Like most '98 Guyana, this one unfortunately does not meet my taste either. For me, too poorly integrated alcohol, too much licorice, not round enough. Seems very young despite the 24 years.
