"A nice Caroni bottling. Very enjoyable," is where a few tasters land, and that's about right. Rubber, tar and oak up front, with espresso, dried apricot and a little burnt sugar behind. It's a dry, dirty Caroni in the classic mold — but several people flag a cask that tastes slightly off-round, and the 62.3% shows through hotter than expected. Give it 20-30 minutes to open.

A nose of wood glue, of old wood that's not very clean. A nose of dishwashing spatula revealing an unclean barrel. The mechanical workshop is in the background. The palate is bumpy, with chaotic development. The finish finally becomes interesting when the chaos stops. But then the unclean barrel reappears. A rum that doesn't make you want to drink it. Chaotic and marked by an unclean cask.

After filling, nothing but some wood and burnt sugar came out of the glass. After a few minutes of air, however, it really gets going: peach and banana accompanied by some rubber. The wood remains, but softens a bit, almost like bourbon. The smell is sweet and fruity, like a candy or syrup.Rubber, bitterness and wood dominate the taste, accompanied by too finely ground espresso and apple. Overall, however, unlike the nose here hardly any fruit. After a short while, freshly tarred road joins in before the espresso tips into spicy mocha on the finish. After the taste has largely dissipated remains something mineral on the tongue, as if one had licked a stone.very tasty, only about the price-performance ratio can be argued.

8,3:On the nose, the first impression we get is very comsi/comsa, as industrial notes like rubber, tar, petrol are strong, overpowering.The fruit notes are faint with blackberry.The wood is roasted with nuts, burnt sugar and spicy with vanilla.The molasses is dark with licorice. On aeration, the picture clears a lot, as the fruits are dried, the wood smoky, honeyed, there are cocoa and meaty notes, the molasses is minty, mineral. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is fruity, woody, industrial with dried fruits like apricots, raisins, figs, spicy and roasted wood with creamy maple, dark chocolate, caramel and vanilla.The industrial notes are dirty, bitter with rubber, tar, menthol.The molasses is minty, floral, dark with black tea. Resting helps a lot to peaches, berries and apples to express themselves and espresso also. 8,5:The finish is long, dirty with tar, spicy, dry and roasted with smoky wood, notesIike nuts, caramel, espresso, a bit tannic.The fruits are dried with apricots, prunes and raisins. The molasses is vegetal with flowery, tobacco notes. Needs nice rest to become tasty..

Nose has a (comparably) sweet and vanilla forward character to it. A little unexcepted on the palate. Some sweet notes again paired with raisins and dried fruits. Little bit to light on zur Dirty notes for my liking. Not bad after all.

A good average Caroni with the necessary flavors, but not quite balanced! The alcohol is relatively present and too little tar and fruit for my taste, but a little too much wood!

03.01.2023 Going through some samples at home while watching Aquaman on the telly. Dark in colour. Nose Wood, light roasted, light tannins, light rubber, light tar, faint chocolate, cherry, light earthy. Palate Warm, balanced, wood, oily, light smoke, light caramel, light tar, light rubber, faint chocolate, fruits, light tobacco, light tannins. Finish Long and warm, wood, tannins, faint smoke, dried fruit, light caramel. Pretty decent Caroni with the traditional notes.

On the nose rubber, oak, caramel and fruit candy. On the palate, bicycle tube, tar, tannins, espresso. The alcohol is a bit too present on both the nose and palate. Not a bad Caroni, but a year ago there was also the Velier 21 to have for the price called 🥲.

Forgot to rate yesterday. I like it. Has those typical Caroni workshop top notes such as tar and rubber on the nose. Also tar and rubber on the palate, very dirty this rum, also slightly solvent and mineral.

Didn't blow me away. Dry, solid caroni. Not particularly complex, rubber and tar dominate. Rather short finish. A bottle to collect, almost too good to drink given the beautiful label

At the beginning, the typical Caroni notes were very restrained, but after 30 minutes they fully unfolded. Rubber, tar and wood, accompanied by dried fruit and dark chocolate. Coffee notes and some minerality on the finish. Alcohol super integrated!

Time to review some Caroni rums from my samplebottle collection. Due the its long age i did let this rum catch some air before the actual tasting. On the nose: Rubber, tar and burnt demerera sugar dominate. Some fruits and vanilla on the background. Round. Taste: First tar and rubber. Mouthfeel is somewhat dirty and unrefined. Coffee notes, espresso. Dried fruits and vanilla. Could be more balanced. High abv is integrated very well. Finish: Medium finish with more of woody and barrel notes. Dried apricots. I somewhat enjoyed this, but this could be more balanced and the mouthfeel could be more refined. I enjoyed the coffee and the dried fruits notes on the taste. Have some dark chocolate while you sip this.

Tar in nose, but rather on a hot summer day on Route 66 than freshly tarred. The rubber of the motorcycle tires is also just evaporating and it's been some time since anyone braked here. For 62.3% here simply lacks the power.

Unfortunately, with this Caroni you get the impression that the cask had some major flaws, it just tastes not round. I certainly have no clue how one could measure this, but it is curoius enough to not happen that often in caroni Single cask
