This Haitian cane-juice clairin comes out pungent and earthy — olive, smoke, wet mineral, a herbal streak that keeps pulling people back to mezcal. This Clairin from Velier is incredibly strong with strong peat/smoke and solvent aromas. Slight presence of olives.Compared to the Sajous it lacks more fruity notes.Great rum!Clairin Rums are true rums that have not altered over time and retain those fermentation and distillation processes of yesteryear. They are among the few rums left to give us a historical memory of what this great distillate was like. They are our past and at the same time our future!

Vanilla and some florals. Nail polish. Clear water pour. Super clean aroma, but then again not a lot of wild flavours. This is my first clairin, so full disclosure there. Some banana there, a little smoke. Had this at Pink Flamingo.

Tasted this Clairin at our summer resort in the Stockholm archipelago. It’s a pot still made from cane syrup. The nose is rather weak, fruity, vegetal and funky with scents of raspberry, olive, acetone and mineral. At the palate it’s fruity, vegetal, funky and smoky with flavors of citrus, black currant, olives and leather. The finish is rather long, dry, intense and smoky.

A very nice and well rounded release and I really like the light smoke on the finish. The empty glass also has some light smoke to it after a while.

The nose is quite promising as it is very heavy and animal. It is both smoky and herbaceous. It is very fresh and there are traces of mezcal in the background! It's a very expressive-funky, Haitian-specific flavor profile. The Dunder has done its job well ... The attack in mouth is slightly acidic with notes of lemon-lime. The alcohol is perfectly integrated and it tastes easy. The mouth is creamy and floral on the lily of the valley. But quickly the smokiness takes its fullness and its place. A long and earthy finish typical of Haiti concludes this tasting.

Le Rocher is probably my favorite of all the Velier clairins, and is definitely the most distinct. It’s pungent and wild, with a herbal/earthy quality reminiscent of Mezcal and a grassy brightness that mingles with some vegetal, plastic-y, and overripe fruit notes. It really demands your attention when sipped, makes some fantastic cocktails, all while sitting on the shelf at a remarkably affordable price.
