Strictly a slow neat pour, and one for people who like their old rums dry. Continental aging kept it pale, so don't expect a dark bruiser — the wood shows up as cedar, leather, tea and tobacco rather than syrup. The palate turns oily and creamy, fruity up front, then that wooden-still bitterness takes over the finish. Most find real depth here; a few wanted more intensity.

Probably from the Versailles still given the flavor profile, which stands out both aromatically and in color from the more intense MEC/MEV/...-Marques from the same vintage by the rather fresh notes. Nice sipping rum with a pleasant depth, but not on par with the best Versailles.

NOSE: Model glue, balsa wood, milk chocolate, toasted rice, toaster pastries, fig maamoul or hamantashen. Varnishes, paints. PALATE: Extremely light on the palate, almost watery. More model glue, balsa wood. Cassia, sweet cinnamon. Bitter lemon pith. Maamoul. Is this sample off? I can’t honestly tell. FINISH: Elmer’s glue, bitter plant sap, simple syrup, peppery tannins that continue to attack the palate. A numbing anise/clove-like sensation pervades the finish long after. OVERALL: A bit like taking a shot of model glue, then chewing on a fresh green twig. This is not great, sadly. Between being thin, heavily solvent/adhesive-based, and slightly bitter… this is just not working for me. SCORE: 55/100

A rum tasted at the GRF in 2024, CoR masterclass. A rather light color due to continental aging. A lovely nose of cedar wood, apple and other yellow fruits. A touch of sweetness. The palate is rather light, with a touch of yellow fruit, but above all powerful, bitter wood and bitter caramel. The finish is long, but very quickly the only remaining aroma is bitter wood. Clearly an interesting rum, but mostly on the nose, the palate and finish are too marked by wood for my taste.

GRF 2014 CoR tasting: gentle nose with the typical mushroomy Uitvlugt notes. Light in color, must be continental aging. Flavir profile continues on the palate, well integrated alcohol with typical Uitvlugt taste. Good, but nothing special.

Despite 33 years, quite pale in the glass due to continental maturation. On the nose herbs, leather, wood, tea, molasses. On the palate quite creamy/oily and overall very dry. I miss some intensity and complexity here.

01.08.2024 Retasting at the German Rum Fest 2024. --------------- 16.05.2023 Normally I don't do tastings during the week because I have to go to work pretty early the next day. This blind tasting just stating "Colours of Rum" just tickled my brain to say "book and participate" and I didn't regret it. It wasn't only a great experience, but we had a blast of an evening with many new faces around the table. This one is a bit expensive, but still performs OK in my mind. Fruity and well rounded. The roasted wood is not too dominant and only competes the profile. Usually such an old rum is on the woody side. ABV well integrated and the palate is oily and kind of fresh with fruit and spice topped with a bit of herbs. The finish is long and warm and stays for a long time. Very nice curtains in the glass.

... Enmore - drive distillery, now just a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that enjoys great popularity. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excite lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very strong and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites.
