Pencil shavings, anise and dry green wood run through this 1990 Uitvlugt from The Colours of Rum. Several tasters note apple, herbs, light citrus and a mineral, almost Scotch-like austerity rather than the big oily Demerara style. At 48.4% it drinks gently. A few found it thin and a touch bitter on the finish, but it keeps revealing small things over a long sit.

Relaxed Uitvlugt. Taste-wise spicy bitter like chewed, sucked pencil and dry with some apple. But it doesn't really blow me away taste-wise...

Despite only slightly increased drinking strength, very dense on nose and palate with notes reminiscent of both PM and Versailles. Expressive with spice and barrel influences, paired with mineral notes reminiscent of pencil shavings and subtle fruits. Nice, although somewhat more straightforward bouquet in direct comparison, which still offers something new on the second and third try.

#5341 23.05.2025 Enjoying some samples while watching Mission Impossible 1. Nose Round, wood, faint smoke, balanced, light nuts, light citrus, spice. Palate Oily, round, wood, light olive, light anise, faint nuts, light citrus, faint cherry, faint salt. Finish Medium long, wood, fruits, light nuts, medium dry, light citrus, light herbal. Empty glass Light caramel, light herbal, citrus, faint plastic, light metallic.

12th GRF, Colors of Rum Tasting. Quick and short... Nose: Uit, orange, light herbs, slightly mineral. Palate: sweetish, bacony, a little oily and slightly burnt. Like a pm. Herbs, Not quite typical, but not bad, It becomes fruitier on the finish

Tried at the 12th GRF, in the Masterclass at Colours of Rum: Typical Uitvlugt, with earthy and vegetal notes, maybe even some pencil. Also some wood and a light citrus note, possibly some orange? Stays long in the mouth, but overall unfortunately also a bit thin. Overall I like the nose a bit better than the palate.

A bit sour, a hint of pencil, and overall somewhat lacking balance. But like any Guyana, you should give it enough time. Of course, it's hard during a tasting.

NOSE: Dusty old oak, envelope adhesive, vanilla, caramel, green wood. More austere, and honestly Scotch-like. PALATE: Also somewhat light-bodied. Eucalyptus tea, fennel, anise, cinnamon, clove. Lime zest, lemon pith. Camphor, asphalt, slate. Saline. FINISH: Mineral, cooling. Volatile herbs. Fennel-mint toothpase. Powdered sugar. OVERALL: Is this rum, or some sort of bizzaro-world Clynelish or un-peated Caol Ila? I can’t tell if I enjoy it or if it sits too close to some uncanny valley. But I'm glad to have tasted it. SCORE: 75/100
