Wow, Mauritius really is full of gems! Except for the finish, which could have been longer, for me it's flawless. The nose is very rich in fruit, particularly quince, spices and butter caramel, with a few notes of milk chocolate as well, superb. The fresher palate passes quite quickly, with a lingering menthol base and grapefruit. It sparkles in the mouth! It's very successful. I don't know what the finish brought to it, but it's very, very good.

Hinweis: Tätigkeit bei der Perola GmbH (Spirituosenbranche), teilweise berufliche Involvierung bei bewerteten Abfüllungen. Alle Bewertungen sind meine persönliche, unbezahlte Meinung. Deutlich milder und süffiger wie der 11y alte ohne Finish. Die zusätzlichen 20 Monate im Armagnac Finish haben den Rum perfekt abgemildert und ihm einiges an Kanten genommen. Der 11er ist deutlich mehr funky und intensiv, der hier ist deutlich harmonischer aber dennoch noch mit genug Power. Spannend sind die leichten pfirisch/Aprikosen Noten mit Eukalyptus und dazu dunkle Schokolade mit Cappuccino, Zimt, Muskat und Nüssen, sowie etwas Zitronenschale und ganz zum Schluss kommt wieder die für mich charakteristische Menthol/Grapefruitschale Note. Gefällt mir ebenfalls sehr gut, fast schon etwas besser je nach Stimmungslage!😁🥳 Auf jeden Fall sind beide Abfüllungen imho absolute Mauritius Gray's Benchmarks!👌🏽

Reifer Mauritius Rum mit klar erkennbarem Fasseinfluss. In der Nase helle Frucht, Traube, Vanille und eine leichte Würze, dazu eine spürbare Weinigkeit aus dem Armagnac Finish. Am Gaumen weich und rund mit süßer Frucht, Holz und dezenter Kräuternote, insgesamt sauber, aber etwas weniger fokussiert. Im direkten Vergleich wirkt die Cognac Variante präziser und stimmiger, während dieses Finish etwas mehr streut. Dennoch eine ordentliche Abfüllung mit solider Tiefe.

Das ist meine erste Mauritius Melasse-Session, nach dem ich sie gestern schonmal angetastet habe. Im direkten Vergleich der Savoir Faire 2009 für LMDW, der Savoir Faire 2010 für LMDW und der CDI 2009 13 yo für Perola. Vom Profil sind sich der Perola CDI und der LMDW sehr ähnlich, aber die Unterschiede sind gut wahrnehmbar. Auch hier haben wir den an TDL erinnernden Pfirsich-Eistee, dazu Holz und leichte Röstigkeit. Der CDI ist etwas leichter, etwas flacher. Mehr Zitrusfrüchte, weniger Kokos-Schokolade. Mit den 53,1 ist er extrem entspannt z. Trinken, Alkohol ist kaum zu spüren. Die Früchte bleiben lm Mund sehr präsent, sind weiter frisch und reif statt getrocknet. Das ist ziemlich cool. Der Mund erinnert an den Cadenhead TDL 2002 (Mango eau de vie), was auch an der leichten Minze liegen mag. Der Abgang ist ebenso fruchtig wie der Mund, er wird allerdings begleitet von einer sehr herben pflanzlichen Note, die ich kaum bestimmen kann. Es bleibt eine durchaus langanhaltende Zitronensäure zurück. Aus meiner dreier Rund ist der 2010er LMDW der beste, die Intensität im Mund macht die Zurückhaltung in der Nase mehr als Wett. Alkoholintegration, Balance, Komplexität alles top. Der 2009er ist ihm sehr, sehr dicht auf den Fersen. Hier überzeugt vor allem die Alte Marille und die höhere Komplexität, aber das leichte Beißen kostet ein paar Punkte. Vielleicht ist der Unterschied eher einer der Tagesform als des Geschmacks. Der CDI ist schon sehr gut, aber fällt etwas ab. Er ist leichter und damit zu weit auf der fruchtigen Seite.

Habe diesen aus Gunnar seinen Split gegen den S.B.S Mauritius von 2009 antreten lassen. Muss sagen, dass mir dieser um einiges besser gefällt, wobei ich finde, dass er nicht unbedingt eine Offenbarung ist. Aber eigentlich kann man für den Preis nicht viel falsch machen.

A nose length ahead of the eleven-year-old, here with an additional Armagnac finish. The same brings a few new flavors into play and softens the somewhat rough finish slightly, but here too I lack a tad of balance for an even higher score. However, a positively surprising release remains, which is one of the best Mauritius rums to date.

The Gray is a little too unbalanced for me.... The spice and wood influence dominate too much and cover up the fine fruit and plant flavors. I still like the finish with the minty note the best.

Ein kraftvolles Release mit spannendem Armagnac-Finish! Die Eiche, dunkle Schokolade und würzigen Tabaknoten ergänzen den fruchtigen Rum perfekt. Der Abgang bleibt warm und erdig – ein herausragender Mauritius-Rum mit Charakter! Mega PLV!!

So vier Rums haben wir noch für heute :) Habe mich grad gefragt, ob dies ein TDL ist?! Weil hier ist überwiegend Minze erkennbar in der Nase sowie am Gaumen. Aber ist wohl ein Mauritius Rum, bin auf den nächsten Mauritius gespannt :)

Again, a finish. Let's see how much the Armagnac barrel works.Nose: oh yes, very clear Armagnac influence. Very intense sweet apricot and sweet peach, plus cherry and pleasant grapefruit. Some fresh, unobtrusive mint coming in now as well. All somewhat muted by fragrant cherry wood, dark caramel, a light smoky note and some chocolate, white chocolate. Liked it. 84Palate: wow, a nice flavor development. First briefly restrained, then it opens up immediately, slightly salty attack, then strong spicy and immediately peach and dried apricot, continuing with fat, almost bacony pecan to tangerine. Still fruit bread out the back. The Grays is wonderfully there, that Armagnac finish fruits it up. 86A very positive surprise.

09.03.2023 Having a few samples at home. Colour Medium dark in colour. Nose Fresh, light wood, light roasted, light peaches, light mint, spice, light caramel. Palate Fresh, light wood, light earthy, peaches, oily, faint smoke, lightly dry, dried fruit. Finish Medium to long, wood, light roasted, raisin, fruits, light peaches, spice, faint ginger. Needs to rest for a while to really open up properly.
