#5479 Having a little pre lunch wee before the guys arrive later today to continue our tasting weekend. Notes Medium dark in colour. Nose Intense, light roasted wood, fruity, light peach, light varnish, ester, light mint, faint herbs. Palate Oily, light wood, fruity, overripe, light apple, light peach, spice, light olive, ester, light earthy. Finish Long and warm, light varnish, herbs, light mint, light citrus, light olive. Empty glass Vanilla, light chocolate, light berries, light mint, olive.

I brought this Compagnie des Indes as a comparison to the CDI RX1629. There is a clear winner here and it's this one! Not so much mint, barely any, but the dirty workshop top of a Caroni. Something must be true that T.D.L filled their stuff into half-full Caroni barrels. What a great dirty rum.

This one is really fun. The nose is still quite restrained with fresh mint, some fruit and wood, but the palate really comes alive. Initially a pleasant sweetness followed by various fruits and then a classic mint-eucalyptus mix. Later, some spices join in. The finish continues on the herbal minty side... would love more of that.

A refined, delicate TDL, skilfully selected by Compagnie des Indes. The nose evokes fresh, floral notes that start on menthol and tobacco leaf, before moving to a woodiness (oak) that turns to lightly aniseed spices, licorice, vanilla and pepper. Leather and roasted notes, impregnated with caramel and brown sugar, remind us that the profile is quite aged, but fruit comes later to bring a little dynamism with blackcurrant, lychee and peach. A beautiful combination that gives a varied, elegant profile on the nose. On the palate, this highly expressive rum opens with a solid aromatic balance: menthol comes through, then the fruitiness makes itself felt with exoticism (peach, blackcurrant, lychee) before moving on to dirtier, medicinal and mineral notes. Rubber and tar come in with a bit of bitterness, then spices (licorice, anise, salt, vanilla) and wood erupt on the finish. The whole is intense, balanced and coherent. The alcohol is very well integrated. The finish is concentrated, lingering on the mineral, astringent, copper and bitter aspects of the profile. Menthol and terpenic notes go hand in hand with oak, leather, spices and exotic fruit for a highly structured, well-ordered aromatic concentrate. A remarkable profile with character, finesse, deliciousness and depth.

A first nose a bit spicy, but immediately fresh tropical fruits appear, well integrated wood, coconut and a slightly bitter vegetal side. The palate is well present, at first a bit dark, woody, tarry, then the beautiful fresh fruits always appear accompanied by bitter vegetal notes, like on the nose. The finish is on these fruits, the woody/bitter vegetal only dominates at the end. As often with TDL there is lots of fruit, flowers, sunshine, fresh grass. An orchard in the middle of the tropical forest.

I compared it to 2001 RM and 2002 RdL. This one is by far the cleanest out of the three. Both the nose and palate is softer and I would say a bit simpler. Especially the nose is much less intense. Still enjoyable though, with expected mint attack. Alcohol integrated very well.

Wow, what a drop! First contact- dried fruit, but after a short breathe then the fine spice with wood,the classic mint and also here I take caraway was,but apparently only my nose.😀The first sip was really confusing, I tasted clearly nettle tea! But then came the full board mineral,metallic and dirty notes, like licking over the workbench in the old village locksmith's shop.😀Great stuff, I love it....
